Notre Dame junior fw Brianna Turner out with torn ACL suffered in the game won over Purdue on Sunday. After getting injured she went off walking unassisted, but as it often happens the damage proved much worse than initially thought.

Stunning results at NCAA tournament. Maryland taken out by upset-minded Oregon, Notre Dame out, Baylor (with one of the most talented and experienced rosters) losing to Mississippi State... Lady Bears finished with better shooting accuracy but Bulldogs took more shots and had a career night from their midget guard Morgan William (41 pts and 6 threes).

Well deserved first title won by South Carolina against Mississippi State. Bulldogs had very little left after the ot win over UConn in the semis. Gamecocks won the game without hitting a single 3-pointer (taking just three shots) and relying mainly on eventual MVP A'ja Wilson and guard Allysha Gray.

The final capped a great Div. I season, with amazing individual (Kelsey Plum) and team (UConn) records, and huge tournament upsets achieved by cinderella Miss State.

RS Jr Diamond DeShields leaves Tennessee to enter prefessional career. An ex North Carolina transfer, DeShields has graduated from Tennessee but had one year play eligibility remaining. Rather hectic college career for this former HS top prospect.

UConn is currently touring Italy and played yesterday the Dutch NT in Rome, winning 68-52.

For Huskies it was the first game since March. Napheesa Collier, Gabby Williams, Azurà Stevens and K-L Samuelson scored in double digits.

Netherlands Sr NT is preparing for the 2018 WC qualifiers and wil play again UConn and touring Duke. Orange Angels field a 6-7 center, Richelle Van der Keijl who averaged double-double at New Mexico.

Second straight win of UConn vs Netherlands in Rome, 88-66 (50-26 at ht). Kia Nurse joined her teammates after representing Canada at the AmeriCup and scored 18 points (3/5 FG3). K-L Samuelson led all scorers with 23 points (and 3/5 threes), Collier added 12 and Stevens 10. Dangerfield with 6 assists, Williams and Samuelson with 5. Among the freshmen, Megan Walker scored 6 points. Huskies had a great start and led by as many as 40 points in the second half, then starters were benched and Dutch NT reduced the gap.

Copycat end of Italian tour for UConn and Duke. Both teams finished with a similar loss to the same pro club, Celje (SLO). Huskies fell to Slovenian champs 79-59 in Trieste, resting Napheesa Collier (slight injury), while the Blue Devils lost the day after 78-65 in Venice without three seniors who left for academic reasons. Curiously, for Celje played ex Blue Devil Oderah Chidom who became pro.

Senior Brianna Turner (Notre Dame) to sit out the upcoming season to rehab from last April's ACL surgery. At the same time Notre Dame is filing papers with NCAA to obtain immediate eligibility to play for Jessica Shepard (ex Nebraska transfer).

Great game of guard Asia Durr who led #9 Louisville to o'time win over #5 Ohio State with a career-high 47 points, including 9 threes (on 15 attempts). Durr also set the school's new scorig record, previously held by Angel McCoughtry.

Center Kalani Brown had another double-double with 24 pts (on 10/11 FG) and 12 reb in Baylor second easy win and 100+ scoring game.

Fifth career triple-double of guard Sabrina Ionescu, who finished with 29 pts, 10 reb and 11 assists to lead Oregon over Drake 110-77. She hit 6 of 8 three-pointers, while freshman Satou Sabally scored 20 points in just 19' action.

After hitting yesterday 7 of 11 threes, Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell reached a NCAA career high 402 3-pointers breaking the previous record held by Kaleena Mosqueda Lewis.

Chennedy Carter scored yesterday a Texas A&M freshman new record 30 points, adding 7 assists and 3 steals. She's on her way of becoming this season FoY.

Despite A'ja Wilson career-high 34 points #3 South Carolina was downed 92-85 by#6 Notre Dame, led by Arike Ogunbowale and Jackie Young with 23 and 22 points. Irish are missing senior Brianna Turner for injury.

Kia Nurse was perfect from beyond the arc with 8 on 8 hits yesterday, leading UConn to an easy win over Nevada with 27 pts. Huskies 3-pt record belongs to KL Samuelson with 10/10 last season.

Freshman Chennedy Carter led #19 Texas A&M to a narrow win at Southern California scoring a 46 points record (17/28 FG) and dishing out 6 assists.

Junior Kitija Laksa from Latvia scored a career high 40 points for #22 South Florida, with an amazing 11/12 3-pt shooting.

Perfect scoring game of soph Ruthy Hebard (12/12 FG and 5/5 FT) who led #9 Oregon over Washington State.

Kitija Laksa scored 41 pts (with 8/13 FG3 shooting) in South Florida upset of #13 Ohio State. Laksa has already played for Latvia Sr NT.

Oregon's Ruthy Hebard again with hot hands, shooting 12 on 12 field goals in an ot win over South California. Hebard made 37 out of 39 FG attempts in her last three games.

Some international players in the spotlight.

Aussie Tiana Mangakahia, a soph guard at Syracuse, currently leads Div.I in assists (10.1 p.g.). She also leads her team in scoring.

Italian Fw Elisa Penna scored yesterday a career-high 34 points (including 9 threes) for Wake Forest in a losing effort vs NC State. Penna is currently leading WF in scoring and should deserve a call from Italian NT. Wolfpack players were led by Canadian soph Aislinn Konig with 20 pts (and 6/11 from the distance). Konig played for the junior NT that finished 3rd at the U19 WC last year.

Another Italian prospect, soph guard Francesca Pan is the current scoring leader at Georgia Tech, while sr center Marie Gulich from Germany leads Oregon State in scoring and rebounding.
