Or the team with an awesome juniors program like SBC.

I wonder why crabs who want to ban foreigners don't recognize that if they take away the foreigners, strong teams will just focus their attention on their juniors program or will just send out scouts across the US to recruit fil-fors. My point? There's no point in trying to bring a good recruitment program down because their recruitment program is not just about recruiting foreigners. It's all about recruiting the best available players.

Take Arellano for example. Instead of bringing teams with strong programs down, they upped their recruitment by recruiting 2 Fil-Canadians and having one foreigner in residency. They'll be very strong next season.

but i thought no more foreigners starting next year? also, i am impressed by forrester already...if they bring in more talent they can seriously compete.

Black persuaded to finish season as Blue Eagles coach

The defending champion Ateneo Blue Eagles averted a major crisis that would have seriously affected their five-peat bid after head coach Norman Black’s offer to abruptly step down was rejected.

Black had volunteered to relinquish his post in the aftermath of erstwhile Ateneo sports patron Manny Pangilinan’s controversial decision to sever ties with the university last week. The two met in Hong Kong last week, where Pangilinan advised Black to finish the season as head coach for the sake of the team.

This was essentially the gist of a statement released by Ateneo president Jose Ramon Villarin, S.J. to the Ateneo community on Tuesday.

“Earlier today, Mr. Norman Black told me that in view of recent events, he informed MVP (Pangilinan) of his intention to step down as head coach of the Ateneo Blue Eagles. MVP however asked him to continue coaching the Blue Eagles until the end of the current UAAP season. We are grateful to MVP for this gesture. Let us continue to support our athletes.”

Pangilinan had announced his “complete and total” disassociation from Ateneo following disagreements with the university’s stand on the RH Bill and mining. The move is seen as a big blow to Ateneo’s sports program.

Black was scheduled to step down at the end of the season and move over to the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters in the Philippine Basketball Association, but Pangilinan’s sudden departure from Ateneo apparently made the multi-titled coach feel obligated to also tender his resignation. MVP was instrumental in bringing Black onboard in 2005.

The Blue Eagles are preparing for the Final Four on Saturday. Their opponent will be known after the La Salle-Far Eastern University knockout game on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena

it seems like Black's loyalty is to MVP and not to Ateneo.

OMG!!! They're either black, yellow or white. It seems the brown ones are weighed down by massive tails. Teng is homegrown but Sino, other homegrowns must work hard to be more than just circus attractions like Lolong. Anyway, stats don't tell the whole story. Hard to pad stats at ADMU for instance.

having foreigners in the collegiate leagues shouldnt be a problem as long as they play because they were students. they should comply with the academic requirements to play and must not have exceptions.

Agree. This should also apply to the locals as well.

but i thought no more foreigners starting next year? also, i am impressed by forrester already...if they bring in more talent they can seriously compete.

That's the plan for 2014. The weird thing is we're still seeing foreigners behind the benches of the same teams that voted to ban the foreigners. This makes me think that they're just trying to pull a fast one. If teams like SBC don't recruit a foreigner and have him serve residency, then we won't have a foreigner ready to play by 2014 since there's a 2 year residency period. On the other hand, they have someone ready.

I agree with what the poster above said. Serjue is better. Arellano will seriously compete next year. They were also able to pry Frando away from SBC Team B, and word has it that Agovida is set to play for them.

keith agovida? good for them i guess..i thought he wouldn't play college ball anymore. hopefully he's matured now since the reason why he wasn't playing in a big collegiate program is coz of his allegedly bad attitude. wait, i remember the rule now...it stated that AFTER THOSE WHO ARE SERVING RESIDENCY ALREADY, no more.

can't wait for the DLSU-FEU match later...gonna be a good one. also, the UAAP is slow on releasing tickets for the ust-nu final 4 match on saturday...due daw to they still haven't decided on the ticket price. wtf UAAP...separate tickets for the final 4 games and still unavailable? good thing the games will be held in araneta though...moa just has too many scalpers.

Guys, what is the update regarding Jethroy del rosario's injury?

What Happened to RR? laki tlaga ng binagsak ng laru ni RR Garcia ano or sino kaya dahilan? hehe

What Happened to RR? laki tlaga ng binagsak ng laru ni RR Garcia ano or sino kaya dahilan? hehe

not vice ganda but terrence romeo...that guy took 17 shots per game....

RR should turn pro next draft before his draft stock continues to fall down...

it was mentioned during the broadcast that romeo has the most number of attempts in a single season. if i am not mistaken with what i heard later today (sorry coz i really had a bad reception at home while watching this game) is 245? correct me if i am wrong but this guy is really taking a lot of shots for FEU. is he the go to guy? or is he being trigger happy every time they play?

and oh, one sequence i noticed is when DLSU called a time out, there are many voices i heard from the coaching staffs. it's so confusing for the players part who should be followed. i guess it's about time that there should be a revamp in FEU's coaching staff.

GO DLSU!!! ANIMO LA SALLE!!!

Revamp in FEU's coaching staff? How about a revamp in their owners? Whoever the coach is, Anton Montinola will override, simply because his family owns the school.

is it that montinola is owned by ateneo? :D a coaching staff revamp would a wise move too. what if montinola coach FEU? would they be successful? since as you have said he always overrides coaches' decision?

It is what it is.

Flores faces uncertain future after 'Forget Four' finish

AS their season ended in disappointment, Far Eastern University coach Bert Flores is left to ponder his future as head coach of the team, hinting at the possibility he won’t be returning next year.

“Bahala na ang management,” said Flores, whose team stayed at the top half of the standings for most of the tournament only to sputter and bow out with three successive losses.

“Win or lose, walang problema. [Pero] maganda sanang exit kung mag-champion,” said Flores, who coached the 2005 champion team led by Arwind Santos before being relegated to assistant coach when Glenn Capacio was hired in 2007. He was reappointed head coach for the season when Capacio took a coaching job in the regional pro league ABL.

“Anytime, andyan lang naman ako sa FEU.”

The Tamaraws ended their season with losses in their final three games to miss out on the Final Four for the first time in five years. They got as far as the finals in 2010 and 2011.

“Galing kami sa finals, pangarap namin mag-champion… Pero hindi talaga para sa amin,” said a gloomy Flores.

For the first time since 2007, there will be no FEU in the Final Four despite a 9-5 win-loss record.

“Forget Four kami,” said Flores.

The Tamaraws could not keep their 10-point lead intact in the fourth quarter of the playoff for the No. 4 spot against De La Salle on Wednesday, losing to the Green Archers, 69-66.

The Green Archers launched a scorching 14-0 run that the Tamaraws could not stop. By the time FEU called a timeout, it was too late as De La Salle was already up, 64-60.

Flores said the Tamaraws failed to execute in the end, resorting to one-on-one plays that led to their downfall.

“Kulang kami sa execution. Kanya-kanya na, wala nang ball-sharing,” said Flores.

FEU’s season went spiraling down as controversy struck the team ahead of important games.

Enforcer Arvie Bringas was suspended for the final two games of the eliminations while assistant coach Ronald Magtulis was also slapped with a one-game suspension for a verbal tussle with the father of Ateneo's Nico Salva.

But the turning point, Flores said, was the loss it suffered at the hands of National University in a board-mandated replay of a game the Tamaraws had initially won last September 2.

The Bulldogs won the rematch and sent the Tamaraws into a playoff for the last semifinal berth.

“’Yun ang turning point, ’yung replay. Tapos ’yung two games na kailangan na kailangan naming mapanalo, natalo kami,” said Flores.
