UAAP Season 74 (2011-2012)

I think Christian Sentcheu the 6'10" Cameroonian improved his build. I saw his photos at facebook and I could tell that he has built a lot of muscle. Not like before where he was very skinny. Now he got a lot of "cuts." Just my thought. Not sure on his game though. Here is a video on youtube where he practices his post up plays.

Hopefully he'll be a naturalization candidate. We need more big and athletic Bballers, even they are local, fil-foreign or full-blooded foreigner.

Bulldogs tap Altamirano as coach, Parks as consultant

RP Youth basketball coach and former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) champion mentor Eric Altamirano will be the new bench tactician of the vastly-improved National University Bulldogs in next season's cage wars of the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Junel Baculi, NU's athletic director, confirmed the news to GMANews.TV.

"Eric Altamirano will be our new coach next season," says Baculi in a telephone interview. "He was supposed to coach our team this season, but he has a commitment with the RP team. He will finish his commitment in the coming tournament in Yemen, but he will join us after their campaign."

Altamirano led Purefoods to the All-Filipino championship in 1997. The following season, he steered the Mobiline Phone Pals to the Centennial Cup crown.

With Altamirano joining the Bulldogs, Eric Gonzales, who previously handled the squad and led the team to a fifth-place finish in the UAAP this season, will slide down to the role as assistant coach.

Altamirano
"Eric (Gonzales) handled the team on an interim basis and we made that very clear. Now that Altamirano will join us, he will slide down as an assistant coach," says Baculi.

Baculi, also the head coach of Barako Bull in the PBA, gave the Bulldogs' fifth-place finish with a grade of 5 from a scale of 1 to 10.

"I'm giving the team a 5 from a scale of 1 to 10. I'm not satisfied with the performance because I believe we could have done better," says Baculi, a multi-titled coach in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL).
I think we have a good chance next season because Emmanuel Mbe will get additional help from newcomers like Labingisa and Neypes. Ray (Parks) is set to play for us next season pending the eligibility requirements.

– Junel Baculi, NU athletic director

"There were some close games where we could have won, yet we fell short. We could have made it to the Final Four."

But Baculi expressed confidence on the Bulldogs' campaign next season as two members of the RP Youth squad – Cedric Labingisa and Kyle Neypes – will join NU.

"I think we have a good chance next season because Emmanuel Mbe will get additional help from newcomers like Labingisa and Neypes," says Baculi, whose team finished with a 7-7 card.

The addition of Bobby Parks and his son, Ray, will also boost NU's chances further.

Ray, the younger Parks, represented the Philippines in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the inaugural staging of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore recently.

Of course, Bobby is a seven-time Best Import awardee and Hall of Famer of the PBA. He has joined the Bulldogs coaching staff as a consultant.

Baculi believes the illustrious father and son tandem in the UAAP will be a welcome addition to the Bulldogs.

"Ray is set to play for us next season pending the eligibility requirements," says Baculi. "His father, Bobby, will be our consultant. But we haven't discussed yet whether he will sit on the bench or he will watch behind our bench where he will have a better view of the action. Bobby's function is to develop our big men." - GMANews.TV

Arvie Bringas needs a two-year residency at FEU, having moved over from another UAAP school.

AFAIK in the UAAP rule book.. He will be serving One Year Resident Period So next year he will be playing for the Tams...

tams Probable Starter next year

RRGarcia -5'11
Romeo-5'11
Excimilaino-6'0
ABringas-6-5
Sentchue-6-10

KeyPlayers: Tolomia, Pippo, Cruz, Bringas, Mendoza, Escoto, Cervantez?, Ramos?

there Still Strong Plus a New Head Coach in the way.. (even if they Win the Championship this yr. with glen Capacio)

It depends if the original UAAP school from where the player came from gave its clearance or not. I forgot what this rule is called. So in this case if Arvie Bringas was given the blessing by La Salle to just take residency for only 1 year instead of the customary 2 years sit-down, then he could already play for the FEU Tamaraws next year. Let's see what happens as it was Anton Montinola of FEU who lobbied for the 2 year residency rule for college transferees among UAAP schools.

There is really a loud talk around the league that indeed Glen Capacio has indicated that win or lose the championship this year, it would be his last as Head Coach. There seems to be some friction between Capacio and Montinola. Its another case on who has the final say, Head Coach or Team Manager.

That should be no problem in both cases ..... its just a matter of "Cashunduan" ;)

Its been well known fact that he and Anton has a Rip..

JohnnyA, RichieTicson are Rumored Coach...

cannot blame Capacio getting pissed. Who the heck is Anton to press the Timeout button when Glen is the Head Coach. Yes I know he owns the team and is the one who is paying everyone ...... do give reapect to your Head Coach. Why do you hire him at the first place. In other words Glen does not want to be a mere "tau-tauhan lamang".

How about UE? i think james martinez is the only graduating player this year.. with LEE promise to comeback with a new and improved Ken Acibar, they might be a contender next year.. and so is Adamson.. Galinato will be gone next season but i heard they will have a fil-am and a former PCU dolphin joining the team next year..

Gotta admire him for his principles. Capacio is a good coach. I hope UP gets him...hint..hint...

What's wrong with FEU? They keep mistrusting their own guys..Remember how they treated Barroca...

if Coach Glenn is replaced by the FEU team. he can walk to to Espana. :)

we will welcome him with open arms. :)

Coach Glen will be a good catch for UST but unfortunately, Coach Pido's tenure as coach until next season is already set in stone. Season 74 will be another disappointment and frustration for Tomasians men's basketball fans.

I hope the Tamaraws retain Capacio as head coach. And I hope the Flying A be inserted in the coaching staff of the Tamaraws. Offensive coach maybe?
