Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. IV

Good thing they were not called Smart Tall Blacks :D

The SMART brand was used way back in 2009, before the corporate rivalry started. The two conglomerates started hating on each other the year after, when MPIC was able to buy the Lopez shares of Meralco to gain majority stockholdership. The relationship soured considerably and this is where the ticklish issue of SMART, the brand, being part of the moniker, was questioned.

Remember, before that, the national teams were called San Miguel or Northern Consolidated Corporation (NCC), two companies owned by the other group. Then, we also were known as Selecta-RP, Tecnogas Philippines, Hapee Philippines, among others.

True, and even then i just wanted to call it Pilipinas. :D

I really don't see any problem with the monicker. It's not a brand name, not something that's being advertised. It's just a nickname, no different from the Boomers of Australia, the Tall Blacks of New Zealand, the Cariocas of Brazil, the Wolfpacks of Finland, the Aztecs of Mexico, among others.

Australia National Football Teams' nickname is Socceros while NZ is All Blacks.

Actually to be accurate , yes the Aus soccer team is a called the Socceros but the All Blacks are for the Rugby team, the NZ soccer team is called the " All Whites" , while the Australian rugby team is called the Wallabies

Forget about super ubo, Wright, Lanete, Pessumal, and Pogoy are enough for me, but the guy with the pinky injury returned naman, but tab benched him

The seaba pool will likely win it all in the seaba tournament, but they could have atleast got more bigs, heck the likes of caperal, torres, and even michael miranda, magat and jericho de guzman could have been named to the pool since they would only face south east asian bigs, that's exposure and confidence builder for them

they should get almazan and fajardo as well. they want to murder the opponents? include blatche..

they should, so that these ASEAN teams will also move forward with their program. it's a good thing they are taking in ASEAN-Fors in ABL as their heritage imports instead of Filipinos.

if its strictly from the PBA yes, but mine i would like it from the youth bigs like Carino, Aquino, Go, or Baltazar (hello SMC/ECJ)

This would have been interesting. Especially with Carino and Baltazar.

Would have been nice to see Van Opstal in the pool.

Agree. Forget super ubo. Baka di lang ubo yun, baka TB na yun at mahawa lang mga Gilas players.:p

Also, no need for an ageing shooter in Dondon Hontiveros to be there. Don't get me wrong, I like Dondon when he was in his prime.

On the other hand; so Chot may have succeeded in convincing RDO to reconsider his earlier decision to retire from the NT?

How about Jason castro?

Jayson Castro is younger than RDO, so I won't be surprised if he unretires from national team duty. His retirement was just probably done out of frustration after losing to New Zealand.
