This idea is actually true. (NBA trainers adhere to this) , mobility to run faster in different directions and jump farther and longer is enhance with exposure to multiple sports at a young age. If you noticed for example Sinclair and Tuffin who both learned basketball relatively late, their mobility and reflexes are excellent , this can be attributed to exposure to sports like rugby , cricket at a young age. Without that exposure they probably would end up mobility wise similar to Arwind Santos- while he can certainly jump his natural instincts to run full court and timing is off.
Actually this is old view already. Way back in the 20-60s, some of our better players actually either played football and basketball, or athletics and basketball; or volleyball and basketball. although, as far as I know, most of them actually played football and basketball. heck, even wilt and russell played both athletics and basketball. so this is not really a new concept.
