Philippine PBA Trades, Releases, Sign-ups, Rumours (vol. III)

The Covid shots didnt work period. If you dig deeper you might be surprised at what you will find. Some people might say its all conspiracy theories but its more like connecting dots especially with CoVid, I'll just leave it at that.

True that!

Anyway I see SMC camp doing damage control on Brownlee's case. Hell no are they not gonna allow him not to play for Ginebra if a suspension goes through. Pretty sure they'll spin it out as medical exemption use.

don't we have a separate thread for the COVID shots, too sensative of a topic for me, lost a lot of relatives, friends and colleagues due to the virus.

yeah i almost forgot ibn has more than a few anti-vaxxers..quick to blame every misfortune on life-saving vaccines. iirc coach tab has also shown anti-vax tendencies

There should be more teams in the PBA, a lot of talent getting wasted. Especially with a vaster network of talents from abroad now available because of the internet.

And those who are too old enough to play in the pba that can’t hang on already to the younger players then just retire already… guys like Danny ildelfonso, Ross, cabagnot, Ryan Reyes, raffi reavis, James yap and even LA Tenorio… give chance to the younger generation… they can play in MPBL to continue their basketball career…

before they add teams, they need to address roster parity first, we have atleast 3 teams that are pba d league/mpbl level.

adding teams will just water down the competition even further since there is no salary cap and the empires just get all the blue chippers/superstars. Plus you ought to be the best the country has to offer for you to make it to Asia’s first pro league, second only to the NBA as the oldest pro league.

Talent is wasted indeed with the empires, but with a salary cap and talent evenly distributed among teams, adding teams wont be necessary:

with regards to old players still in the league, its up to the young talent to show up and displace the tenorios, taulavas and james yap of the world. Perhaps those old veterans are still leaps ahead those borderline talent aspiring to get signed. Just watch how the PBA motoclub destroy recreational teams or how JJ Helterbrand is still miles ahead against the mpbl field. Just like a regular workplace, its up for the newly hire to displace the old ones, the seniors wont give ip their slot without a fight

i doubt that, say what you want but terra firma and blackwater are still >>>>> than the best teams in the mpbl like the lanterns and nueva ecija. let's not get too excited, a pba scrub and has been can dominate the mpbl (michael mabulac anyone?) but even a mpbl mvp or finals mvp is at best a bench player in the pba.

So that was the takeaway from the presser? Mikey and possibly Kai wanting to play but wanted a sack of cash?

I'm actually ticked off that Marcial had the balls to put on a smug face and gloat at how that team won in spite of (name all excuses mentioned). It's the sad part of his job to make the PBA look more awesome than it actually is, but it's hard to take anything away from them because a team of PBA players (except Kouame) that wasn't even Tim Cone's choice went home with an Asian games gold medal and partied like it was 1990.

Also, Vargas senile as ever, alluding to how much the PBA has "sacrificed" just to make the World Cup and Asian Games work; as if to say they're not changing a thing and even willing to do it without "talent outside the country" (definitely talking about those playing abroad). The league had already tried aligning with the FIBA calendar during Noli Eala's time, but two things happened: the PBA going back to the 3-conference bullshit when Eala left and FIBA changing their entire cycle starting 2017.

It's not rocket science. All the PBA has to do is schedule their off-seasons between early July until late September then plan their stupid 3-conference format from there. They'll never do that knowing they'll lose to both the UAAP and NCAA for venues (unless it's Ginebra playing, college games sell more tickets) and TV slots (bigger paying ads during college season) to start the PBA.

Well, Vargas still echoed the sentiment in the PBA presser: https://pba.ph/news/season-47-banner-year-for-pba

"Our overarching battlecry is: Let's bring the PBA back to normal," PBA chairman Ricky Vargas said in a well-attended press launch yesterday.

"Back to three conferences, back to being able to reinvigorate the PBA, and get to where we were pre-pandemic. That's what we want moving forward."

Seriously, when that same format screwed up the availability of the players for FIBA tournaments?

And this is the same person that wants additional teams in the PBA. Goodness.

If more playoffs is the issue, why not just convert the All-Filipino into a knockout tournament for the top 2 or top 4 of each of the Governors' and Commissioner's Cups? Best-of-3 quarters, best-of-5 semis, then best-of-7 finals. You shave almost two months of the tournament, and you still get more playoff games.

And this is the same person that wants additional teams in the PBA. Goodness.

If he wants additional teams, then that should come with the adoption of permanent imports (which frankly should come regardless to address the weaknesses of the teams outside of Ginebra and to an extent, TNT) so as to not oversaturate the quality of the competition. Two world imports + one naturalized player/Asian import.

Why not merge the Governor's Cup and the Commissioner's Cup into one? Both are just duplicates of one to the other.

More playoff tournaments, e, which I think is the sentiment of most, if not all, of the forumers here. More playoffs = more money.
