Philippine PBA Trades, Releases, Sign-ups, Rumours (vol. III)

boy i was so wrong about market interest on teng

SMB is a star collector. It has the money to pay them. I wouldnt bet the offer is significantly bigger than the 420k Converge offered. I still think there are a lot of SFs bigger and better than Teng.

was thinking if smb bit the 800k-900k asking price of Teng, probably not but true, the smb offer is probably bigger than converge’s

I think this is gonna be an asset flip if it doesnt work out this conference. One of Go, Navarro or Holt probably.

Ratings wise the other conference finals actually do decent pull. Its not a prestige thing, its business. UAAP and NCAA championships probably mean more especially to the winners but ratings wise PBA is still king.

I'm inclined to believe the PBA ratings king thing, especially since the UAAP and NCAA have smaller markets to cater to, but I'd like to see the TV, radio, and streaming numbers.

The league need to make itself accessible again. Games were streamed on YouTube, if I remember.

same here, pba is a big deal in the provinces. if the pba is concerned with ticket sales they can make a killing in frequent out of town games

UAAP and NCAA have a dedicated market and I believe that they are doing well with their niche crowd. Champions will be vividly remembered by their fanbase. I believe that nostalgia, dynasties and rivalries sell alot in sports and I believe that it is easier to build these things via single tournament every year.

The ticket prices and standard of courts in some provinces might be an issue. How frequent should PBA games be held.

Aside from setting up a production in those places

Yup all the leagues are basically fine, except when compared to an international standard. When compared all leagues are lacking severely.

funny for years a number of posters here @ibn argued that the pba is dying/will die, that the ABL will eventually displace the league. Only way for the PBA to die is when SMC and MPIC pulls the plug.

League will continue to exist until it says so, though they could earn more, too bad income is far from the league’s concern. (gentleman’s club+ tax shield)

Would a 10k-seater provincial arena make a difference? I always believe that it would as PBA is a definite draw in the provinces (still miles ahead of MPBL). Problem though is that most arenas in major cities outside NCR doesn't have such capacity.

And Vargas and other PBA officials have the gall to say that the PBA sacrificed for Gilas.

is this a recent thing? maybe its because abs-cbn is no longer there, ratings are a zero sum game so one less station and voila!

tue only thing they sacrificed is their dignity/self perceived image that the league is still the best in Asia

kudos to them, the gamble paid off

He's not an Arwind replacement, that's for sure. SMB need the likes of Cahilig, Ferrer, or any natural wing standing 6'4" and above.

teng is just like the SF version of Vic Manuel, undersized and cant shoot from the perimeter/long range

Makes one think where the fuck Teng and his cohorts were when he was in his collegiate prime (coincides with the GSW war machine teams) and why they were not able to develop a steady outside game during his PBA rookie year up to now.
