These are not what I expect from those basketball experts who are surely highly educated but whose actuations in the net are not far from that of a common criminal. Anyway, what can you expect from these people who spent much on their time in computers, "mga wala magawa sa buhay". I would say some, Internet savvies as they are, is a minority in the Philipppines. Majority of the fans who had no access with Internet hails from urban folks in depressed areas in all cities and the typical probinsiyano in four corners in the Philippines, sa pinakasulok, malayong kananoyan (countryside) where BAP, our organization have presence, have mandate among the basketball-loving masses (masa). If you go to far-flung barangays in provinces, SBP is unheard but BAP is painstakingly always there to provide guidance.

To answer the recent issue, it's affirmative there is an ongoing FIBA inquiry about the blatant violation of the SBP clique on what stipulated in Bangkok Agreement of a BAP-SBP merger. Our organization's initiative to reach out to SBP has been thwarted several times by some self-serving personalities in SBP. To blame their incompetence on me is unfair.

The latest inquiry is an initiative of FIBA, it was done in a good faith with the purpose of preserving the rule of law. Preserving the Bangkok Agreement, preserving what FIBA and BAP has fight for.

Regarding my citizenship issue. I was born in this country Philippines, I am Filipino and have any rights as any one of you here. I love this country and has spent my whole life developing basketball particularly the grassroot programs and has used great amount of money from my own pockets to advance these programs.

I am more of a Filipino than Taulava, Penissi and Norwood. FIBA will surely see this as I was tasked by them to gather some necessary documents that will scrutinize the citizenship status of above-mentioned players. I am pleased that I am not alone in this effort as there are some concerned, nationalistic people in the bureaucracy, in the agencies concerned who had readily supplied me the necessary papers.

Regarding what they claimed my failure as BAP Secretary General if you are in my position with no profound support from elitist leagues PBA, PBL, UAAP and NCAA. Yet you still expect RP to be champions, that's utter nonsense. During my tenure, I exerted my all energies for RP to have decent results in international tournaments but with meager if non-support from these elitist leagues we came short, I apologise for that. But to put the sole blame on me doesn't made justice to all hardworking people at BAP who worked in the sidelines.

I can assure you that BAP will regain its previous standing with FIBA before the year ends. BAP who represent 65 legitimate basketball associations mostly in provinces and grassroot - directed will make sure it will happened. In saying so, once reactivated we will intensify our attempt to reach out with SBP.

Until then. I will rest my case now.

1. i believe that the PBA and PBL have lent their players in the asian games, sea games, seaba, abc. if your talking about long-term support and commitment, maybe its the absence of a workable and developmental program from the BAP that made it impossible.

2. basketball is in our culture and folks from way north and distant south knows the game already. what grassroots program are you talking about?giving them free balls, teaching them to dribble, or organizing barangay/municipal games?phew!even an alcoholic barangay chairman, or an out-of-school SK chairman can do that. your program should have been about developing players and quality of games to become at par with international standard. have you done that? are the probinsyano players who became national and international talents products of your so-called grassroots programs? true basketbal fans and players all over the country know the truth. you are merely using these municipal and provincial-based associations so you can say that you have more associations than the SBP. maybe people here can meet together and form our own basketball association. with the way you define legitimate basketball associations, i think we can fit in well.

3. Norwood has been recognized by the philippine gov't already(BI and DOJ). are you saying its you and fiba which has the say on who is a filipino or not a filipino? damn, even the united nations do not have that power over its member countries and yet fiba have that?

4. you will gain the nod of fiba?take it. the sbp will not wipe the ass of foreigners the way you do...oh and isn't it that PSC and POC do not recognize BAP?and as of the moment (until the Supreme Court rules with finality), our judicial system also does not recognize your group. you may be able to get international recognition but it would mean nothing without the national recognition. but i am sure that your friends are already working on that one (that is why some forces are conniving against cojuangco; part of another political agenda meant to restore power to those who cannot have enough).

5. and lastly, you may have worked well, you have given your life to rp basketball etc. but what's the result?isnt it time to say goodbye and pass it to younger individuals who have new ideas which could be more productive and effective?coaches, managers, leaders ought to resign after years of failures. you had your time already, irregardless if they were your faults or not, irregardless of the factors. its time for a new era and yet you just can't seem to surrender that power over others. are you saying that you ought to be the one to lead outr country to global supremacy?is it your birthright?are you a monarch of basketball or something?

6. let fiba suspends us if they want to. we can continue developing our basketball even without competing in their tournaments. uaap games, pba games, barangay games, whatever, these games will always be with us and nothing can take that away from us.we've been playing basketball more than any country in asia (i think) and we do not a foreign organization to tell us what to do. were trying to be with them so we can get international recognition. but we should not eat our pride and bow to them just for that. there are other ways to get international/global recognition. and even if there would'nt be, philippine basketball will always be alive, the fans, the players, the managers, etc. its in our culture. fiba can't take that away. no politicians and power-hungry individuals can take that away.

EVEN at the risk of courting another suspension from the International Basketball Federation, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Manny Pangilinan said they will not attend the meeting called by the FIBA next month to tackle what the world body said is an "internal dispute" in local basketball.

During a press briefing in Makati, Pangilinan said the SBP will not recognize the authority of the special commission tasked by the FIBA to mediate in the meeting set on July 20-22 at the FIBA headquarters in Geneva unless the world body explained the reason behind the creation of the special commission. The invitation for the meeting was sent last June 20.

Aside from the SBP, also invited to meeting the meeting are officials of the Basketball Association of the Philippines, among them Graham Lim, whose reinstatement to the FIBA Youth Commission is being challenged by the SBP.

FIBA secretary-general emeritus Borislav Stankovic has been tasked to head the commission, with FIBA legal commission chief Ken Madsen and FIBA honorary president Carl Ching Menky as members.

"We were given a letter last year where FIBA affirmed its support to us," Pangilinan said. "SBP should stand up to this kind of treatment and expose them for what they really are.

"We’re asking you, FIBA, to tell us what went wrong," Pangilinan said. "Tell us, why are you doing this? We’re not questioning your powers, or your authority to investigate, but we want to know, what are the charges? Why are you bringing me to court with the threat of suspension?

"We wrote them a letter, saying ‘no’ to their invitation in Geneva unless they explain why we should go there. I think we deserve respect. We need to know what this is all about."

The country has been suspended thrice before by the world body, the last time in 2005.

Pangilinan’s major concern is the participation of Powerade-Team Pilipinas in the 2009 FIBA-Asia Men’s Championship in Tianjin, China on Aug. 6-16, the qualifier for the 2010 World Championship in Turkey.

Pangilinan said FIBA should instead hold an investigation after the FIBA-Asia meet.

"Our participation in Tianjin is being hostaged," Pangilinan said. "If that’s what they want, then let’s do it after Aug. 16."

Menky is a close friend of Lim, the former BAP secretary-general, and controversial sports leader Go Teng Kok, a former BAP president.

this is bullshit! where are you bauhmann??? say something!!! sbp was just following your orders... these chinese triumvirates should all burn in hell!!!

I took pity when Go Teng Kok was ambushed..oh hell yeah, hope he is assasinated again and this time die..

hahahaha they're now hiding six feet off the ground... Afraid of being hit by my sniper... :D

if we will be suspended, then so be it! let's show these people that we are not afraid dealing with them. we cannot tolerate anymore these bullying and making hostage of our basketball programs. actually, i am aching waiting for this to happen so we can go already to the IOC and expose these bullying being done by FIBA to us.

i just hope MVP will not give up in this fight. it's gonna be a long and rough battle but i'm very sure in the end we will prevail.

If Philippines really does get suspended...get ready for a REVOLUTION!!!:mad::mad:

MANILA, Philippines – Take it from someone who knows basketball politics in the international arena.

Former FIBA-Asia secretary-general Moying Martelino believes the Powerade Team Pilipinas will be able to play in the FIBA Asia men’s championship, notwithstanding the defiant stand taken by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) against the Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA).

Martelino, who was official of the FIBA-Asia when it was still known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) from 1989 to 1998, said FIBA officials are sensible enough to give the national squad of coach Yeng Guiao the green light to see action in the meet set in Tianjin, China this August.

“Is it possible? Yes, I think," said Martelino.

Fears about the possibility of the Powerade Team Pilipinas being unable to see action in the August 6-16 qualifying meet for the 2010 World Basketball Championship surfaced after the SBP categorically declared it won’t attend the Geneva meeting set up by a special commission created by FIBA.

The body seeks to thresh out what the world body referred to as “ongoing basketball controversy" in the country and the meeting is set July 20-22, almost two weeks before the Tianjin tourney.

“Ang mahirap lang diyan is, if in the event, we get suspended and the suspension is for immediate effect. Yan ang magkaka-problema tayo," Martelino opined.

In a letter sent by FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann to the SBP, the FIBA maintained that the “(FIBA) Central Board has delegated to the Special Commission for purposes of the issues surrounding Philippine basketball, all its powers under the Statutes which powers go from supervising the practice of basketball worldwide to Sanctioning and/or Suspension of Members."

Martelino said: “In that case, if it found any cause for a possible suspension, the Special Commission may recommend it to the (FIBA) sec-gen, who in turn, can have the power to take action on it by ordering for its immediate effect."

Such incident already happened during a previous suspension in 2005 when the RP team of Boyzie Zamar had to return back from Malaysia after it was barred from competing in the South East Asian Association (SEABA) championship.

“But there are instances too, when the sec-gen would first seek out the opinion of the Central Board and whose decision, would be ratified later on upon the holding of its quarterly meetings," he stated.

Now the man at the helm of Sports Vision Management – the group running the Shakey’s V-League - Martelino also raised the possibility of the suspension taking effect shortly after the FIBA-Asia meet.

Martelino, however, wouldn’t delve deep into the matter, stressing, “that’s going too far ahead."

i think bauhmann is pretty fucked up here... he's caught in between... do the right thing bauhamann, don't let those chinese mafias influence your decision... bauhmann already settled this issue in his letter to sbp last may 13,2008 so he better be careful with this, and he should stick to his words...

No place for Lim in new board

Graham Lim, now out of the FIBA picture, may also find himself out of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas with the formation of the new SBP board of trustees before the end of the month.

Lim, the Basketball Association of the Philippines secretary-general, is among the BAP men in the interim board but he’s likely to get the boot without a league to represent in the formation of the next board.

Lim is not an official of any of the 19 cage bodies given active membership status by the SBP executive committee. These 19 associations will nominate 25 people to compose the new board from which the new set of federation officers will come.

“He can never be a member of the board. First of all, he’ll never satisfy the No. 1 rule which says a nominee to the board must be a Filipino,” said The STAR source, noting Lim has been declared undesirable alien by the government.

The FIBA Central Board has dismissed Lim from the FIBA Youth Commission and, at the same time, asked FIBA Asia and the SBP “to review the appropriateness of Mr. Lim’s participation in any body of FIBA Asia.”

An SBP official doubted whether the federation would still act on Lim since a new board will be formed in the next few days.

“He is a trustee who has never attended a single board meeting. He’s not a trustee in good standing,” the SBP official said of Lim.

Top FIBA officials slammed Lim for sowing confusion in Philippine basketball even after the merger of the BAP and Pilipinas Basketball with the formation of the SBP.

Fiba leaders claim SBP-BAP Bangkok unity pact unmet

By Julius Manicad

06/06/2009

The raging dispute in basketball seems far from over, and disgraced Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) secretary general Graham Lim is again in the middle of it.

The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) yesterday created a special commission that would “seek solution to the ongoing conflict” between Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and Lim’s BAP.

In a letter from Fiba secretary-general Patrick Baumann, the SBP central board stressed that upon its meeting last May 22 in Geneva, Switzerland, it said it found the terms and conditions stipulated in the Bangkok Agreement in 2006 were not met, creating a situation of uncertainty that prevented basketball stakeholders from achieving a lasting unity in the country.

The special commission would be headed by Fiba secretary-general emeritus Dr. Borislav Stankovic with Fiba honorary president Carl Ching Menky and Fiba’s legal commission chief Dr. Ken Madsen as members.

Baumann said the three-man panel will mediate between the two warring groups and would recommend its findings to the Fiba central board headed by president Bob Elphinston, who will make the final verdict.

And surprisingly, the Fiba central board agreed to reinstate Lim as chief of the Fiba youth commission, prompting SBP executives from speculating that the Chinese citizen Lim, who has a standing deportation order from the Department of Justice, has a hand in painting a grim picture of local basketball in the international community.

“The (Fiba) central board has agreed to reinstate Mr. Lim as member of the youth commission immediately after the special commission successfully concludes its mandate,” Baumann said in a brief letter to SBP.

SBP executive director Noli Eala, however, said the disgraced former BAP secretary-general is the mastermind behind the shame campaign for maintaining his solid ties with some Fiba executives despite his ouster from local basketball in 2007.

Lim, in fact, was reportedly caught sending communique to Menky in behalf of SBP during the staging of the 20th Fiba-Asia Champions Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia last month.

“For as long as Fiba continuous to cuddle Graham Lim and refuses to see what Graham has done to Philippine basketball, the process of unity will always be hampered,” Eala said in a press briefing. “We’ve all complied with what was written in the Bangkok Agreement, and we’re now working towards achieving unity. But the problem is that the BAP refuses to accept the result of the unity congress.”

Eala said the SBP would immediately seek clarification from the powerful committee why it has to assemble a “special commission” and how it concluded that the country’s basketball is in disarray. He said SBP has not received any correspondence and complaints from the 70-year old BAP, which is now being led by losing Senatorial bet Prospero Pichay.
