Philippine NT might be suspended again!!!

hahahaha are u a hitman. but too bad for many philipinos if your country is suspended and how lucky our team if that happen however we may not see who is better and stronger

hehehe:D.. nope I'm not a hitman.. but when the day come and I saw one of them... I'll kill them... in other words "Kill On Sight".. but I doubt that will happen since I'm outside the country...

It would be a huge favor for you guys if we get suspended..

Anyone have a weird feeling that this is all planned at this certain time? Coincidence that this broke after the draws and right before RP's full time training for the FIBA Asia...

Damn it damn it damn it...

that also crossed my mind ..... same with the said planned crackdown on player eligibility by FIBA-Asia.

So the SBP won't submit to FIBA's special commission until it has knowledge of what the BAP's intentions are. So for now, we have to wait.

What's the logic behind not submitting to the request of the special commission initially but first knowing what BAP's intentions are?

Theory: SBP is saying we won't be dragged down by the BAP group, if they want to talk you do it in SBP's terms.

How would FIBA take that? Would they be paranoid and say that the SBP is disrespecting them? On the other hand, they could see that SBP's strong-arm move is a sign that we have a stable organization than the previous one?

for the record, there is no need for the powers that be to get scared of the philippine team and go through all this trouble of suspending it. there is no way we can beat china and taiwan. yes, even taiwan is a much better team than the philippines. i see them beating us by 25 points. this being said, i wish the people behind this move reconsider their drastic measures against our team and just let us be.... anyway, we are weaklings and we cant possibly affect the outcome of the fiba-asia ranking especially that of taiwan. we just want to play basketball, is all.

Taiwan. Freaking Taiwan (no offense to them). Chekov, you still have your gun... You know what to do with it. This post really about does it for me (and i know a few other posters)... Either you think you know your basketball, or you just pretend to know. Either way, you simply, hate. Get the gun, and... goodbye.

SBP is doing what it should be doing and that is show who's the leader in Philippine basketball. Why would they allow themselves to go to that convention when FIBA already proclaimed BAP as a non-entity and now they're breaking their own agreement.

I think someone from the high office in FIBA-Asia is behind this, like others said. Why does it always happen when the competition is near? That evil in human form Graham Lim is doing all these things because he does not want Philippine Basketball to succeed and he's not even a Filipino and the clueless Pichay is even condoning his evil actions.

very unfortunate. god bless the philippines.... whew....

"tingnan palang pulitika natin eh kitang kita na talo na!"

SBP deplores FIBA probe, to snub meeting set by world body
06/24/2009 | 06:19 PM

MANILA, Philippines – The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) deplored the meeting being sought out by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) next month in Geneva to resolve what the world basketball body referred to as “the ongoing basketball controversy" in the country.

The association headed by Manny Pangilinan made it clear that it would not be attending the July 20-22 event since as far as it is concerned, it has not done anything wrong that merited a new round of discussion with FIBA.

Owing to correspondences and complaints coming from the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP), the FIBA Central Board in its last meeting decided to create a special committee to specifically look at the matter. The BAP is the group that the SBP replaced as the FIBA-recognized National Sports Association for basketball in the country.

Pangilinan said the SBP already wrote a letter to FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann asking him to specifically outline what those complaints are. Unfortunately, the association claimed it received no reply from the influential FIBA official other than the three-day meeting it scheduled a month from now.

“We can’t go there unprepared," Pangilinan said Wednesday in a morning press conference at the PLDT offices.

“What are the rules of court? What are the rules and procedures? Yan ang gusto naming malaman. How will you judge us? How will you judge them (BAP)? Mahirap `yung ganun," the SBP president added.

SBP vice-president Ricky Vargas was more direct to the point.

“Will we attend the July meeting with FIBA? Ang tingin ko doon insulto yun kung aatend kami. A-attend ka pero hindi naman sinasabi kung ano ang kasalanan mo."

The special committee is composed of FIBA secretary general emeritus Borislav Stankovic as chairman, FIBA honorary president Carl Men Ky Ching and Dr. Ken Madsen, a member of the FIBA legal commission.

The SBP said it can’t hold talks with a committee that is composed of people who has known to have special affiliations with a key personality over at the BAP camp, its controversial secretary-general Graham Lim.

“Nakita ninyo `yung composition nito, sila sila rin `yun," Vargas said.

Pangilinan and the rest of the SBP officials present during the press con that includes executive director Noli Eala, PBA chairman Joaqui Trillo, PBL chairman Mikee Romero and SBP legal counsel Marivic Anonuevo are all concerned about the possible suspension to be meted by FIBA in the light of the group’s impending action.

A FIBA suspension on the Philippines meant the possibility of the Powerade Team Pilipinas not competing in the coming 25th FIBA-Asia men’s championship in Tianjin, China.

“I think it would extremely be unfair to the country if they would suspend us before the China meet," Eala said.

The Philippines has been suspended twice before by the FIBA due to leadership squabble, the last time in 2005 which prevented the country from holding a basketball competition in the Southeast Asian Games that it hosted.

I hope this is not true...hope it will be solved as soon as possible...
i believe the phillipino forumers are the one of the most people that loves basketball in asia and support their country totlally unfair

Khalid, That's the way it is here in the Philippines too much politics. I hope your old problems with the leadership of the Federation Libanaise de Basketball (FLB) has been resolved, when I saw Fadi back with your team I pressumed his problems with the Lebanese authorities has been resolved.

But our problems here is really terrible. But I do hope for the love of the game of basketball, the FIBA would really see the true picture.

I understand u man. Politics is really dirty and mixing it with sports just destroys the game.
We had alot of problems in our League this season and Khatib's issue got so bad that FIBA threatened that they would place sanctions on Lebanon if the teams and Lebanese Basketball federation couldn't solve out their issues. Thank God they (teams+federation) realized how dangerous the situation was and things were eventually sorted out.

So for how long had these problems between SBP and BAP been like that (I know that Philippines had been banned for quite a while from international competitions until for the last few years)?

Can the government of Philippines get involved in such a case or would that cause more problems?

what a bad ang sad news

I think anymore interventions from the government would make it worse. 2 of Graham Lim's colleagues are former Congressman Prospero Pichay and Congressman Villafuerte both are dogs of the current administration.

The SBP is actually an organization formed by different basketball stakeholders who really loves the game and has genuine concern for Philippine Basketball that started in early 2008 or was it late 2007 after
the former Philippine Basketball Federation, the BAP dragged our country to
almost the bottom of Asian Basketball. From that time the BAP is trying to regain the recognition which was given already by the FIBA to the SBP. The
FIBA seems to be looking the other way even if the SBP is really making great strides in improving our basketball and getting our teams to the competitive level Internationally.

There can't be a Government intervention as it would result in an IOC suspension. That's what happened to Kuwait just recently.

lol at the thread title, its the whole philippines would be barred from any fiba activities (tourneys, forum & meetings). I think the best solution is that both parties would meet half way and settle old differences for the betterment of Pinoy basketball. I think SBP should not be rock solid on the issue, they should be the better organization and answer to what Fiba wants to know. On BAP if they are really the legitimate body then prove their worth rather than making sumbong the "so-called" mafia of world sports like children with tantrums. I maybe a nobody in Philippine Basketball but as andividual that believes in Philippine basketball this is my way of showing that I really support it.

Thanks for the info.
I really hope FIBA realizes that it's the SBP that actually cares for the development of basketball in Philippines and should be the one whom are supported and not the BAP.

At the end of the day if the SBP and BAP continue like this it's ur country+u guys (the basketball loving fans) whom will continue suffering from this mess :(.

The SBP is fully supported by the POC (the olympic arm of RP) and the PSC (the government arm of RP sports). Plus almost all of the major stakeholders are under the SBP. If FIBA realizes this, then I say we have a fighting chance.

Mahroa tlga kapg cnsamahan ng politika. . . But as far as Philippine is concern all our effort will not be wasted because we're very proud of them by heart! Go mga Noypi!

The SBP has already done that before, trying to settle with BAP, but with a leader like Graham Lim who should have been deported already. How can you settle with these kind of people when they would stab you in the back like what they are doing right now.

In SBP's open letter it clearly stated that FIBA will not listen to BAP anymore since they don't have authority in Philippine basketball but look at what FIBA's doing right now they are creating a special commission based on a group's complaint (BAP) who's already supposed to be a non-entity in Philippine basketball, talk about breaking your own agreement. If ever we will be suspended then FIBA is clearly at fault here.
