I assume the top 2 schools from each zone will advance to join the seeded schools?

How will they determine the top 2 teams - single round robin or KO system?

^ most logical would be a single round robin.

i still think the qualified sweet 16 teams will be rusty come November 24... UE or FEU could steal this from San Beda or ADMU...

3 days with 6 teams..hmmm...most logical would be assign them into two brackets, round robin in each bracket top team from each bracket advance in each zone

Capitol University instead of COC-Phinma(the COSAA runner-up) is playing in Zone 4. Another curious withdrawal?

i think that the organizers of this champions league favoring a team which i think is immoral,we need to promote basketball with integrity and honesty

yeah, we need to know at least. with the issue of favoritism being hurled over, they need to answer it too. it seems that favoritism will never get out of the way in any event.

Curiously when I checked the PCCL website earlier today, the Zone 4 entry is now Cagayan de Oro College and no longer Capitol University. Typo error? Or media not getting their facts straight again?

www.philstar.com/scripts/articles.php?&aid=2008101943&type=2& -

but how come that the other day is capitol university is the one will be competing then all of a sudden its back on the cagayan de oro college???
the organizers need to answer this questions because the integrity of the champion's league is at stake

MANILA, Philippines—West Negros University swept the Region 4 qualifying tournament of the Smart-PLDT-KFC Philippine Collegiate Champions League at the WNU Gym in Bacolod City over the weekend.

The Mustangs, the Bacolod champions the past 10 years, capped their dominance with a 74-68 victory over University of Iloilo in the finals Sunday night.

With playmaker Alfie Villariza at the helm, West Negros trounced Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, 69-63, before prevailing over John B. Lacson Maritime University, 76-64, in the two-day tournament.

The Mustangs of Anthony Agustin advanced to the six-team zonal championship scheduled Nov. 9 to 11 in Ormoc City, where the top two squads will clinch spots to the “Sweet 16” national finals.

The Mustangs will go up against Bohol International College, AMA Computer of Ormoc, University of San Jose-Recoletos and University of Cebu and NCAA third placer Letran College.

Villariza finished with only eight points against UI but power forward Ryan Flores ably picked up the slack by coming up with 20 markers, while Jeff Jacinto and Rolly Jaca combined for 21 markers.

West Negros, the 2005 National University Games titlist and the 2006 National Students Basketball Champion with a team led by current Ateneo de Manila University standout Nonoy Baclao and Hapee rookie Ely Olarte, reached the "Sweet 16" last year, before losing to Jose Rizal University.

it is said that the zonal will be only good for three days
so it means that it will not be a round robin affair
i hope that all 6 teams will slug it out each other then the top 2 teams will advance to the sweet 16,we are here to determine the real champion of the college level so why you put up a zonal elimination by not using round robin format??so by using round robin format we can determine the top 2 teams of that zone right???cause they face all other teams on that zone and the luck of the draw will be nothing

for 6 teams, that's 5 games per team in 3 days...???

maybe for day 1: game 1 in PM; day 2: game 2 in AM and game 3 in PM; day 3: game 4 in AM and final game in PM

nope if it will be round robin then it is good for 5 days but for 3 days it will be 2 groups with 3 teams then the topnotcher on both group will slug it out for the championship of that zone

Oh I see. Thanks. How do they group the teams in 2 groups?

i dont know how they will group that, but if it is a round robin format the ncaa and uaap teams will slug it out againnts the provincial team..that make this zonal elimination more meaningful

lets cite an example:

ZONE 3
(Nov 9-11 @ Ormoc City)

BIT Internation College (BOHOL) - Region 5 Champion
AMA Computer (ORMOC) - Region 6 Champion
University of San Jose Recoletos (CESAFI) - CESAFI runner-up
Colegio San Juan de Letran (NCAA) - NCAA wildcard
University of Cebu (CESAFI) - CESAFI 3rd place
West Negros University (NOPSSCEA) - Region 4 3rd place

so probably, BIT and AMA will be on opposite groups.

yup because they are mediocre teams but how you will divide the remaining 4 teams??maybe letran and uc will be in the same group because it will be ridiculous if 2 cesafi teams in the same group

I read from gameface that the grouping for Zone 3 will be Bracket A: Letran, BIT-IC and AMACLC and Bracket B will be USJ-R, UC and WNU.

I personally feel got a lucky draw having not so strong teams in bracket A. Bracket B is Zone 3's group of death as those 3 are strong Visayan teams. The fairer draw should have been separate BIT-IC and ACLC as well as USJ-R and UC

how pathetic..3 visayas teams on the same group??this draw will favor the letran and the others will slug it out for the ticket for sweet 16..i think if uc will be in the letran group they will challenge letran for that ticket..the organizers seems to be unfair..it is not good for the development of basketball in our country
