Its more of market positioning or branding. Why would people lineup for an iphone17 than the latest samsung galaxy or other phone brands kahit yung tech naman e minsan lamang pa si samsung? UAAP schools position themselves as premium collegiate league. Same reason why they only accept schools with university status. They even have a cable channel of their own. And now pirating a player from other leagues seems like salvation in the eye of most people. If San Beda wants to uplift their image sa enrollees, best thing to do is to jump to the UAAP bandwagon.

Even in other sports same can be said. Look at volleyball. In the pvl for every 1 player of the ncaa, there's probably 8 or 9 from uaap. There aint alot of ncaa players there (tas most of them pa come from benilde lol).
Ncaa teams alone would often be annihilated by uaap teams whenever they battle each other so the talent and recruitment discrepancy is often in display.

Exactly my point. If they want to help their athletes and their own school. Move to the premier league. Sure its not the oldest nor the 'grandest'....but being those things nowadays doesnt neccesarily make ncaa the best either. Other than being the oldest and 'grandest', what else is the ncaa proud of? Hahaha.
Ask a couple rando in the street, if they have the choice to which school they wanna go to, where will they go, to an ncaa school, or a uaap school?
That alone should tell you its time to move.
I agree with this. It's absurd how the semifinals of the uaap features half of its member schools. Even if it's a total merge, could be something like what the NCAA did this year. UAAP could be group A, NCAA could be group B. Then do a crossover playoffs. They should just find additional schools for group A to level things out.

Yes, right? Start with these two leagues. Pass muna the CESAFi etc. It will uplift the bias regarding the "big 4", send your kid to this or that school to have a "chance". All these schools offer something good. People are just brainwashed that UAAP schools are better at everything.

Man don't get me started on this. Playing in the B-league or KBL doesn't automatically make them better than our PBA players. Most UAAP "stars" are not even dominant in the pros. NC athletes has proven time & again that they're just as good, if not better lol. This is just basketball though.

How exactly are ncaa athletes good or better than uaaap? lol enlighten me on your basis on that as well haha. Im also waiting on your reason why you still want san beda to stay haha. Im not even sure if you're from san beda, coz it sounds like you're more of ncaa fan thats stuck in the past.
You had me rolling the dominant thing lmao you do realize that uaap's best prospects end up abroad the dwights the the kq's, the tamayo's and alot more.
You know ncaa is second rate when their best and brightest always end up in uaap and ncaa is treated as a farm league.

To be honest i cant think of any other reason why yall want to stay. Other than a 10 peat lmao, Sure thats dandy and all but would rather do that against second rate teams than winning one over top programs like dlsu ateneo or up?
I mean lets get real the reason why we havent had a succesful iteration of the big dance is because the best programs in the country are in the uaap. Thats why winning there is almost equivalent to winning the national championships.
Heck pinoyliga even tried doing it, guess who won the last tourney. The only uaap team that joined lmao.
Look at the ncaa teams besides csb sbu and maybe letran, how many of them can beat uaap teams. The way i look at it 7 of its 8 teams are legit good. Even the likes adamson and feu are pretty formidable against ncaa's best teams and those 2 didnt even make their league's final 4.

You can't merge the 2 leagues. Even the US has countless of collegiate leagues.
What they do have is The Big Dance. It's what we can dream of. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening soon. If I'm the UAAP, why would I risk someone else being crowned national champions when they see their champs as the best collegiate team in the country?
Add the fact that the NCAA will always be at a disadvantage with no FSAs and the stars getting drafter during their senior year, and yeah it's not in the NCs best interest as well.

Its because if you want to be the best, you go to the best. That has been the mindset of young athletes kaya everytime these 2 leagues meet at preseason, laging lamang ang uaap schools sa talent. Our ncaa stars have always been uaap second stringers (or most often rejects) who wants more playing time kaya nagtransfer. Or some are those na di kaya ang academics sa uaap school (like CJ Perez) or just there for the money. (Its ironic sabi ni father kalbo na mercenaries ang FSAs. Basketball players nowadays mostly have become mercenaries, always going where the money is: Letran and Benilde)

Exactly. As ive said the logistics of it makes it impossible. If that were to happen, the duration of the season would be way longer. And how about the other sports? Can the merged league accomodate conducting other sports tourneys simultaneously?
Not to mention it divides potential profit. For example, if basketball season went way longer, it would mean that it would have to go concurently with the volleyball tournament. Instead of people's viewership focusing on one sport, it will be divided now that volleyball is also happening.
Also the venues, do we have enough venues to conduct all games and possibly between multiple sports?
Kaya i agree. We dont need a merge, we need a proper big dance but i do get your points as well on why uaap might be against it as well.

Its unfortunate but true. I think this is also applicable to other sports like football, swimming, racket sports and athletics. A uaap diploma, specially ones coming from the big 4 schools carry a lot of weight in their post athlete's career.

Watching the Final 4 between NU and DLSU. CAnt help but compare the alumni and students support that UAAP teams are getting and what the NCAA teams are getting. its simply night and day. IN fairness, the first game between Letran and PErpetual the crowd was a bit loud but this was due to the shenanigans of some players from both teams. But the big dome was only about 40% filled. And the 2nd game between San Beda and CSB, it was much worse. lots of empty seats and the energy of the crowd from both schools was lackluster. NCAA superstars Janti and Titing deserve better.
I've followed the UAAP more closely throughout the years but I think it's unfair/inaccurate to categorize the NCAA teams as second rate. I don't think the UAAP schools necessarily have better programs. They have more money sure but some have been/can be dysfunctional. Just this offseason San Beda went to OT/2OT game against Ateneo that had a healthy Adili. CSB I believe beat Ateneo too in one of their scrimmages. Give NCAA schools decent FSAs and i think they could go toe to toe with most UAAP schools.
