Guys, hold your horses.
You have seen Rice for a couple of games in a role he has to get used to. This guy is a scorer, he CAN shoot threes. Look at his percentages. I have watched him a lot of times (like 20 times). He is not a Logan-type of a shooter, rather he is like Hickam. He can shoot a hit a lot from the outside, he can hit threes in crunchtime. I have witnessed it all. He is not a true PG, although he has good assist averages. But he functions very well playing next to a true PG. He was functioning at his best, when Bayern gave the ball into Hamanns or (in the playoffs) into Halperin's hands. Then, Rice was able to put on his one-on-all show in the halfcourt setting. He is not that good at playing with the ball in his hands on the perimeter, looking to facilitate a play for his teammates without having to drive & dish.
I'm telling it from the beginning, I'm not a fan of his, much less in Maccabi. Yes, Blatt like controlled basketball but he gives a look of freedom to his ball handlers. Rices fault is that he plays the wrong position. Put him at the 2 and he will give you what Hickman does. But that is not what Maccabi needs. So, the team is stuck with Ohayon and only Ohayon at PG. That is the reason, why Ingles is playing point forward and doing very well so far.
Brown has shown throughout his whole career:
1. he can't lead a team and is more concerned about his stats (last season was the one and only example)
2. his shot selection is bad
3. he is not willing to sign more than one-year contracts because he is still looking towards the NBA.
Finally, no team from Europe (and North America) has signed him. Must be sth. to it.
McCalebb is a phenomenon but the team has to be cut strictly after his strengths. He needs the ball to finish or facilitate on every offense. He needs a good and tall PG playing next to him. Ilievski or Planinic, for example.
Pargo? Do you remember how Pargo has struggled in his first ten EL games for Maccabi? A much worse defender than Perkins plus he couldn't shoot straight. Right now he is struggling MAJOR TIME for CSKA (he costs them 2.4 mio), yet no one is saying he is a bad signing. You guys really have a problem with supporting Maccabi. Not you personally but the vast majority of MTA fans. You don't leave the team alone, dont give the guys time to gel. The organization cannot go on rebuild mode, all of its signings have to be big time players for nothing and from the beginning on.
You are complaining that Maccabi signed Rice instead of a true PG but bring examples of the same kind of players who have shined in certain situations and failed in others. The true difference between them is the price tag and the more well-known name.
Tyus was signed BEFORE Cohen and Blu. I guess, Billy Bounce is right about his signing. He needs a shooting big man whom he could clean up after. It doesn't work pairing him with and of Maccabi's bigs. Eliyahu would be a perfect fit for him. Not exactly a shooter but a big man who operates from close range but not by posting his man up and eating up space. Plus, he is looking for the pass.
Blu is too slow on defense and he still makes too many mistakes but we could not have expected it any other way by now.
Leaves Ingles as the only truly good signing. Good defender, good shooter, good slasher, good playmaker. We'll see, how the rest develops.
When Blu gets into groove, he will help Sofo a lot (and vice versa). You have already seen that Blatt sends both of them on the floor as a combo.
Last but not least to the Israeli league. I haven't watched the game, only five minutes of highlights. I don't know, if Ohayon's ankle is okay again but it such a game, Blatt should have clearly to go with Naimy. No need to hold Ohayon on the floor when he is having a zero of a game. Tyus didn't play, Sofo didn't play, Smith didn't play, Hickman didn't play, Pnini didn't play. Well, Hickman, Pnini and Sofo combined for 12 minutes but that equals non-playing. I consider it to be a mistake to have played six EL players plus Cohen. Other Israeli teams are not that bad that they can'T win against a team not using its bench at all. I'm glad for Nes-Ziona but I wouldn't mistake this game with an EL game, where Maccabi is playing different guys.
