Reason why Germany is losing is all small guys. PG is playing just awfull... run, run, run... "climb to the tree" ant the try to score against 4-6 hands or pass somewhere hopeing any teammate will cath the ball...
No game control, no passing for big guys on the paint... nothing...
Most of atacks has no more that 2-3 passes...
Same for kaman or nowitzki... gets the ball on the paint, shoots doesnt matter what is the situation, how many opened players are or how many defenders around him...just shooting from awfull positions hoping the ball will get in...

And i thought Dirk Bauermann was one of the best coaches in Europe...

Offensively, he is one of the worst. Germany's running only simple plays on offense but they cannot even execute those properly.

This greek team will always have an advantage over this german one. The reason is the perimeter players. The game in Europe starts from them so when the quality difference is big like in this case, the best perimeter team can control the game easier. Nowitzki doesn't have as much help as he needs when he is double-teamed, so he isn't allowed 2 have the impact he can on the game.
I think Greece has played against a non-suitable opponent(Spain) and against a suitable one(Germany). In both games the point margin doesn't show exactly the difference between the teams.
Now I'm looking forward 2 the game vs USA while Germany will probably get the 4th place and face Lithuania(unless Croatia surprise us once more).

the only opponents i really am afraid of are the Spaniards and the Liths...
End of story.

I really like spanoulis, JVG was not wise to let this guy sit on the bench that long when span was in Rockets.

The Greek team and Theo Papaloukas really dominated this game defensively and, only when their shots were falling, it was possible for the Germans to catch up with them. This didn't last for more than 15'. Dirk Nowitzki only had an impact at the end of the 1st quarter and only behind the arc. Chris Kaman had a rough time against a very motivated newcomer Andreas Glyniadakis. Vasilis Spanoulis just had one of his best games with the NT, rebounding from an average (or below average) first game. Papaloukas, Antonis Fotsis and Dimitris Diamantidis are slowly becoming again the key factors that Greece needs them to be.

Greece is back to its pre-Olympic tournament form just in time. The coming game vs Team USA couldn't be of a better timing for the Greeks and, if they win, there are definite possibilities that they could finish 2nd in the group (avoiding, thus, USA and Spain in the semis). The U.S. team will be facing Angola today. No-one would be surprised if they beat them by over 40 points and have their enthousiasm and arrogance boosted once again

Good game by Greece. Bauermann gave up at the end of the 3rd quarter and did not play Nowitzki who had 4 fouls the rest of the way. Tsartsaris' and Vasilopoulos' defense was key to the game IMO. Spanoulis showed he is the #1 offensive player on this team and the only one who can consistently create his own shot. Papaloukas played the point better than Diamantidis on offense. Glyniadakis and Printezis showed they can contribute. Once Giannakis saw that Germany was going to play "hack a baby shaq" inside, he put an end to the Schortsianitis experiment. Don't think we should have full-court pressed and shot three pointers up by 20+ in the 4th quarter, but we needed to exorcise our offensive demons from the Spain game and we did that. The USA game is not that important in the scheme of things. Victories against China and Angola bring us Argentina or Croatia in the quarterfinals. But we have a long way to go to get there...

As a Greek fan I got sick and tired of the whining of some of my fellow Greeks. After a win we are the best and after a loss we are the worst and can't even make it in the quarter finals.

Stop this. Greece is simply a great team which can get a medal, but there are more exelent teams out there. That's why these olympics have become exciting.

Spanoulis really is a talented FIBA isolation player. Beautiful move he had a couple plays ago.

I don't care what all these haters say........he's simply the best European player PERIOD.

Glyniadakis is my hero :D

He kicks a$$ ;)

I think the Greek offensive game has improved. Yiannakis must be reading this forum during the breaks

Glyniadakis is a player. He needs to be used more that is for sure. He makes things happen all over the court.

Not only that it's tough to determine such thing, you don't restrict yourself even at the position he plays. Spanoulis has not won anything major and his stats are not that out of this world. There is no need to hate him in order to acknowledge this. But... whatever. Players have fans and fans tend to exaggerate.

spanoulis is maybe the best player of the greek NT WHEN he hits his 3s (like today).
When he does he scores easily 20 points a game and is perhaps the best combo guard of europe.
When he hits those 3s, he obliges his defender to guard him more closely, which allows him to penetrate more easily, since he has a very fast first step .

BUT his main problem is that those 3s don t fall in all the time. When they dont he forces the drives , which result often to turnovers and he becomes a liability to the team.

To sum up, if he manages to hit those 3s consistently, he ll become the leader of PAO and greece that every body expects to.

I just feel that I have to apologise about one of my earlier post regarding Glyniadakis. Today he played fantastic! He took his chance well and played great! I think that we just match up very well with Germany because of the gaurds. I hope Greece can keep their emotions down, and stay as humble as possible. Im glad that we didnt take a shot on the last play, we respect ALL of our opponents!

Sinhariteria (Congratulations) for Greece!
Great game by Spanoulis. I hope his performance silenced all the critics that were complaining about him.

I've been bashed endlessly here for saying how good he is. Like I always said, in the end I will be the one laughing.

BTW, he has won a European Championship and a couple of Greek doubles and even a under-20 European Championship if you want to count that. I would not say he has "not won anything".

I really wanted someone like Tsaldaris in the team over him or Perperoglou because I wanted some shooters and I doubted Giannakis would play him. After the Spain game that seemed to be the case.

Finally Giannakis used him. IF he uses him we want him on the team. He's very, very underrated.

I don't understand why no one ever wants to hear it. He has not been allowed to be the man on either PAO or the national team, it is THAT which causes the problems. The coach and the other players on the NT need to understand he is the best player.

It's really exaggerated in PAO. He should be the main player not Saras. But Saras and the coach don't seem to get it. Of course this is just my opinion and I expect 100 Lith flame wars for it.
