Greg Slaughter...

Greg played in 09 fiba asia champions cup as a local right? so like norwood and dillinger he is eligible because he already played before the 16 yrs old rule implemented....

I think now is the most opportune time to iron out whatever needs to be regarding Slaughter's (and others worthy of "getting cleared") eligibility. We have mr. MVP up there, and we are currently FIBA's newest darling. I say, grab the opportunity.

It is not considered a major FIBA tournament. It also happens to be a FIBA tournament for clubs and not national teams. Had he played in the 09 Asian championships, he would've been one of those who got "amnesty" like Norwood and Dillinger. As for Lutz and Lassiter, they were allowed to play in Wuhan ONLY after their cases were appealed. That doesn't mean though that their citizenships will not be scrutinized in future tournaments.

28. For the international club competitions of FIBA, the composition of the teams is not subject to any limitation concerning the legal nationality of the players. However, each national member federation and FIBA Zone may establish more restrictive regulations. Where the duration of a tournament does not exceed fifteen (15) days, the governing body of that competition may establish more restrictive regulations also.

hope to see Greg in the next edition of FIBA tournament. He can be our back up Center.
Maybe we can try more of Junmar-Blatche combo and Greg-JA backing them up. Against Taiwan and Korea we could field in RDO or Ping at PF spot and AB at Center or Junmar.

This is a good big man rotation since Blatche and Japeth plays the same a stretch 4 heck they can even go for 3 towers Greg,Jap,and Blatche if no one is foul trouble.

You missed the point. we have MVP now sitting up there and FIBA must have had realized how huge a fanbase Filipinos are.

That said, IF there is something that needs to be ironed out, i think things would be a lot easier now. Also, my post is not only about Slaughter. It goes out as well to those who have a dangling question mark in their eligibility but could potentially be a valuable asset for the NT.

I am not saying we could expect positive results. But at least we could have clarity on these issues once and for all having someone in the inner circle.

Still, it's a FIBA-sanctioned tournament. And they're very strict about having only two imports in the Champions Cup. One reason why SMB's ABL team decided not to compete in the Champions Cup was because Banchero wouldn't be allowed to play as a local because he didn't qualify as one under FIBA rules.

That may be the case after the citizenship crackdown in Wuhan 2011. If we use the argument that playing as a local in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup before Wuhan 2011 should make him eligible, then Lutz and Lassiter should've been able to play with no questions asked.

Van Opstal being declared as a local might be more realistic as he started playing as a local here before he turned 16--something that can be interpreted as laying claim to his Filipino citizenship in lieu of applying for a passport. Anyway, the SBP should get this cleared once and for all ASAP. It wouldn't be wise to include any player in the NT or the training pool only to find out days before the tournament that the said player is ineligible.

Greg already played as a local in a FIBA-sanctioned tournament in the 2011 SEABA championships, there is no longer any issue on his elligibility

If Greg does join Gilas, it will be very interesting to see Junemar or Greg at Center while Andray plays Power Forward. In some instances, we can even briefly use both Greg and Junemar on the floor.

If this is the case, then FIBA could possibly be contradicting there rules ... that is, taking the case of some Team USA players like Olajuwon, a Nigerian and an American born in Nigeria (see Wikipedia).

I think Greg's case is similar to Olajuwon.

Olajuwon is a naturalized american that was why he was allowed to play for USA

Greggyman, people reading this post of mine wont understand. They dont have any idea of what is going on. lol
But here is that puppy I was talking about. He is the secret to winning championships!

serious now, I just upped this thread. It is buried deep in the thread pages kasi.

The "Slaughterman" has exceeded my expectations of him in the PBA, which is a good thing for Philippine Basketball in general. Hopefully he will get to win at least one PBA MVP Award somewhere down the line ...

A championship for GSM first and the rest (individual award) will fall like a shooting stars...

If he keeps it up, "Gregzilla" will be having a good run at the MVP Award this season. If so, then we really will have the Mon Fernandez-Abet Guidaben Rivalry of our time in Gregzilla vs. The Kraken ...

i really don't mind if ginebra wins or lose, as long as greg and japhet are performing very well. I really want them to be in the final 12 for next year's OQT.

I always think that Greg will win at least an MVP. I even think that he's a little better than JuneMar, it's just that his team don't know how to win hehehe!
