It still would. Because any school that will play him in 2011 would have to disallow him from playing or joining some of Gilas' pre-FIBA Asia tournament tuneup matches and competitions most of which will be played on foreign soil i.e. Jones Cup, Dubai Invitational, SEABA.

As to GS going to AdMU, will AdMU credit the courses/subjects he finished at UV? AdMU has a penchant for a tedious verification of subjects/credits taken elsewhere, so GS is a special case now? If not, then all these talk is largely about basketball nevermind the compromise in academic standards.
 
Let's just cut him some slack. I mean whatever it is that he wants to do with his life let him be.

Ateneo or no Ateneo, I hope his true priority is the National Team and playing for the latter should be the least of his concerns for now. :)

Absolutely. The worst that can happen is when a big man plays against competition much shorter...
 
just to put things in perspective, and remind people who rail against piracy by manila schools, that numerous players from bohol, negros, leyte, mindanao have been pirated by Cebu schools as well :)

For example, the recently deceased RicRic Marata who played for Southwestern university cobras in Cebu is from Iligan, in Lanao.

Ramon fernandez is from leyte played for university of san carlos, cebu

Abet Guidaben is from Camiguin island played for univ of san jose -recoletos, cebu

Zaldy Realubit is from Gingoog, misamis oriental, played for San jose recoletos , cebu

Bonnel Balingit -from lanao - played for univ of visayas, cebu

and many many more.

I speak visaya and was born in mindanao, but i was never bothered by midnanaoan players being drafted by Cebu schools or manila schools for that matter because for me it was - may the best school wins and conversely - may the best player win - schools choose the best players just as players choose the school they want to play for.

Cebu has its share of recruiting players from up north as well. USC's Alfred Vitug had Pampangueño roots, Fil-am Kevin Quilantang from UC traces ancestry to Cavite and UPIS point guard Jacques Bautista now plays for USC.

The question for GS is whether a UAAP stint will conflict with his involvement with Gilas. He will have to juggle his time practicing with Gilas, practicing with his school team, attending to academics and joining Gilas in its trips abroad. If the reason he wants to transfer to a Manila school is to give more time to Gilas, it wouldn't make sense that he might not be able to join some of Gilas' commitments in 2011 before the FIBA Asia tournament just because he will also have to honor a commitment to play for his school team in the UAAP. The only reason playing for the UAAP makes sense is if that's the only way he can hitch on a scholarship and get free education.

Agree with this one,as far as basketball players is concern Cebu Schools will also pirate players mostly from Mindanao,Negros and other visayas island.
Think its a matter of player's choice where he/she wants to play.
 
I think what manu bol and other cebuanos are really pointing out is not the obvious fact that more talented players are going to the richer school, but more so of what to do about this?. The long-term solution to this is not scaring or stopping players from leaving or putting a guilt trip or utang na loob on them or quarelling richer schools. The long-term solution is for the provincial schools to find ways to raise funds to keep their star players just as what poorer schools in the U.S. are doing. A poor school can still compete to a certain extent if they have an active alumni boosters who can organize fund raising drives. of course, SBP has to help also at least by training provincial coaches, donating equipment, etc
Dont get me wrong, it is difficult competing with the top school because they are super-rich, but then this problem is not unique to the philippines but also common in other countries.. the poorer schools will just have to try their best to attract players and hope for the best. The other solution is to strengthen player eligibility rules and residency rules and make this uniform across all school leagues. maybe the school leagues can learn from the pro leagues and how they draft players ?

AGREE...we really can't blame players playing in the provincial leagues who wishes to transfer to UAAP or NCAA especially if top caliber team/university would be recruiting them. Practicality and better exposure.
 
I guess the novelty of 7-foot transferees can cause a nervous breakdown in certain people.

But let's give 'em a break...everyone's entitled to take a "stress leave". :D

GS can jump and dunk with both hands...definitley a better rebounder and post defender. the big difference...EJ is a seven foot GUY who was asked to play basketball while GS is a basketball player who stands 7 feet :D

EJ is afraid of the ball, literally, during his elementary days in PCC.

GS not only passed the ACET, he passed with flying colors (top 2 percent of examinees). He is in the Director's List, giving him the option of registering in the program of his choice (even those with a quota) and getting a certain percentage of courses credited by examination (which will allow him to transfer credits from UV). So the Ateneo is not at all compromising its academic standards in getting GS. It looks like he will be an honor student like Chris Tiu.
 
EJ Feihl has buttery fingers and often loses the ball during possessions, on the other hand Greg has better handles and secures the ball with more efficiency . . .He also has a higher basketball IQ than Feihl . . .He is already light years beyond Feihl at this stage in their careers. Feihl is an under achiever who was forced to play basketball, and cannot be compared to Greg who has the passion and drive for it. Slaughter strives hard to work on his game to become a better player each year and the country is very proud to have in the national team.
 
what I know EJ Feihl's sport is soccer... he was just forced to play basketball.. but during his time (and marlou as well) we don't have a good basketball program and some coach doesn't know how to utilize him.... imagine if marlou and EJ has the same program what we have right now, things will be different...
