–Former Husker Christian Standhardinger is back in Germany. After quitting the team at Nebraska and then losing his scholarship to La Salle over a minor legal incident, Standhardinger’s student visa expired and he had to return home. If he wants to return to NCAA Division I play, he still would have to sit out a transfer season.

calling Ateneo! Standhardinger's available!:D

he's not just a good baller, he also got the face and body of a model(adonis type to be exact:p) It will be a big factor in terms of gate attendance.
:D

Maybe its fate CS, someones pulling your leg to play for your motherland may if its Germany and Philippines... having in the wrong ncaa team plus a "kalaboso" to prevent you playing in other school lol

Well maybe a pipe dream PC Gilmore can give you the best gadgets out there to bring you here:D;)

sana, but he'd have to sit out 2 years per existing uaap rules. seriously (since it is already a given that he is extremely talented), it would be best for him to join CESAFI instead so he can acclimatize himself to the philippines and play immediately

So what makes you think he's not going to play in Europe? Terrible decision having chosen Nebraska, then the "unfortunate" development with Lasalle - he desperately needs playing time now. The signing period has already ended for the current season when he became available, 'cause we are close to the playoffs here now.
With the number of German players required on BBL-rosters rising, there will be an even greater demand of qualified local players here next season.
The lack of playing time in the States may not be helpful to him as far as his market value in europe is concerned, but he has never been off the radar of talent scouts over here. I'm curious what his next step will be.

cool bro.
I think our friend lovejones just stated that instead of going to ateneo(that is IF he'll go to Philippines to play and study-IF ever;) ) it would be better for him to play in CESAFI. He just presented a better idea from what i've posted.

Poor standhardinger, I pray he recovers 100% from all this poor luck experiences he's gone through.

Smart Gilas/US select 80, SCA Allstars 68 – The surprising Filipino based development team beat out the top team in the tournament ( Pump N Run Elite) to get this far and they did not disappoint .After a incredible performance in the previous game, highly famed Bobby Parks Jr.(Melrose High/Memphis,TN) regrouped to lead his team with 18 points and five rebounds. Smart Gilas was assisted by two long-range marksmen. 6'2" Rome De La Rosa (Morse Sr.High School/San Deigo, CA) made three 3-pointers to finish with 14 points and 5'10" Ericko Ferrer(Pacific Baptist/Long Beach,CA) made three 3-pointers for 11 points and dished out 7asst. Cory Reveria (Cole Springs/ Reno, NV) continued to impress with his bounce, great hands and aggressive play. He finished with nine points and 10 rebounds for the Black team.

Compton Magic 101, FOH Basketball 72 – Explosive Orange Lutheran 6'2" guard Gabe York led all scorers and his team with 22 points. York showed his ability to shoot from deep behind the arc and nailed three 3-pointers with ease. 6'2" slasher Eli Carver (Franklin/Seattle,WA) led the FOH team with 19 points. The Franklin athletic junior had a nice mid-range game and was aggressive off the dribble to create scoring opportunities. He also had six rebounds and four steals. Much-improved 6'8" forward Zena Edosomwan(Harvard-Westlake/Los Angeles,CA) , finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for the FOH team. Bouncy shot-blocker and rebounder 6'5" Ryan Wright (Palmdale CA) had 11 rebounds and seven points for the FOH. Mater Dei 6'4" guard Katin Reinhardt showed his aptitude for making great passes and going strong to the basket. Reinhardt scored 11 points and had three assists for the Compton Magics team.

Championship Game
Compton Magics 78, Smart Gilas/US Select 46 – A total mismatch from the beginning. The Magics was just too stacked for the club that had every team surprised. Orange Lutheran 6'2" guard Gabe York had a game-high 25 points and Roosevelt 6'5" forward Udun Osakue added seven rebounds for the Compton Magics team. Smart Gilas leader, Bobby Parks Jr., struggled from the outside but still finished with 21 pts and 10rebs. Nico Davy-Sison( Canyon High, Anaheim, CA) played really well for an undersized Power Forward and Pacific Baptist Ericko Ferrer is very quick with the ball and gets to the basket well. 6'6" Justin Leathers (Foothill/Bakersfield CA) had 12 points and seven rebounds while 6'3" Colton Neff (Copper Hills/West Jordan UT) added 11 points and four rebounds for Compton Magics team.

in europe, standhardinger will just be a regular player. in the philippines, he won't only be the star player of his team, he will be a CELEBRITY. [no need for that. Khalid80] in europe, he will be a statistic. in the philippines, he will grace the cover of magazines, guest on t.v., date movie stars. people will come up to him to ask for his autograph.

of all people, u should know this. or else, why the hell do you go back and stay in the philippines?

Are you always discussing on such a level or can you simply not contribute any more than such comments?

As for Standhardinger, the question will probably be, how ambitious he is and how much he believes in himself. A possible celebrity status in the Philippines (only if he really turns out to be a star player though) sure has its nice advantages, but the more ambitious way would undoubtfully be choosing Europe.
The more competetive scene is over here, more money certainly too if he turns out to be worth it. Going to the Philippines would pretty much take him off the radar for the German NT, which still is the more attractive choice compared to playing "only" within Asia. Asian basketball has really developed in a strong way, but is still falling behind Europe.
It's all up to Standhardinger himself. So far, we are talking about a a very talented young man, who didn't see much college action, and yet has to prove himself on the pro level. None of us know yet how good he'll turn out to be.
I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with "Bayern Munich", who have just moved up to our highest league (BBL), are being coached by our NT coach, who naturally has a strong interest in gathering interesting german players around him. According to rumours, they will have a budget of up to 8 million Euros (about 504 million pesos) next season and are expected to make a strong run towards the european top within the coming years.

i cant understand your first paragraph. i guess you get tongue-tied talking about the realities of racism, both in europe and in the philippines.

yes, european teams may definitely pay standhardinger more money, nominally-speaking that is. yeah, 1 euro = 62.35 pesos now. but as you very well know, the cost of living in the philippines is very low. in fact, using the bigmac index converter, 1 euro = 29.49 pesos only. see, you can buy 2 big macs in manila for the price of 1 in berlin. and i bet you can't afford a maid in berlin. but how many yayas do you have in cebu?

and basketball is not even the no. 1 sport in europe. i highly doubt if it is even no. 2. in the philippines, basketball is more than a sport. it is a way of life, almost like a religion. and with the nba's internationalization, standhardinger may actually be able to use the asian route for the nba. it is a long shot. but it is possible. staying in europe cant guarantee success for him there. what more his nba dream. but in the philippines, he will surely be successful. atleast, locally. and he might even be able to get to the nba the tabuse way.

my point is don't be too sure that europe is standhardinger's obvious best option. the philippines offers a juicy alternative. 6'9" SF's are a dime a dozen in europe. in the philippines, he will be the 1st and ONLY 6'9" SF (hopefully in smart gilas).

yeah, europe is 1st world. developed. moneyed. cultured. but haven't you read the business pages lately? asia is emerging, and it is emerging fast. ofcourse, led by the chinese growth engine. and where is the philippines? oh, it is the nearest, english-speaking, resource-rich, american-trained country to china. but you better convert your euros now. coz the philippines is not getting any poorer. ;)

Well, why don't we just wait and see what will happen, before you start declaring war to Europe. :D

I still have my doubts though that playing PBA and/or Gilas would be as attractive to a (top?) player as playing in a competetive european leagueor even euro league, euro champs etc.
I'm also quite sure that american scouts also have an eye on the basketball scene in the Philippines, but Standhardinger will need the toughest possible competition, if he wants to play for top clubs. Does he rather find that in Europe or in the Philippines? With all the given respect to your patriotism, but basketball in many european countries is still on a higher level than the PBA, and the German NT still possibly the shlightly better choice than Gilas. If you were a basketball talent with high ambitions, would you rather play teams like Kazachstan, Taiwan or Quatar, or rather teams like Serbia, Russia, Spain or Greece? And for a professional player, money is also always quite a big issue.

But first of all, he would need to prove himself - no matter where that may be!

I say Standhardinger play in Germany, but as a Filipino National Team member..

:D:p:rolleyes:;):cool::)

everybody knows that the euro level is better than the asian level. all i'm saying is standhardinger will have a more secure, safer route through the philippines than through europe. like you said, he's got to prove himself first. especially in europe. in the philippines, he obviously has better chances of doing that. and if he plays for the philippine NT, i believe he won't sacrifice as much in terms of competitive level. and again, that may be his best route to the nba.

i'm not declaring war on your continent. i'm just saying that playing ball in the philippines may not be as bad as you think.

in the end, it is all up to standhardinger. i'm just saying these things so that in the remote possibility that he ends up reading these posts, he may realize that playing in the philippines is actually a viable, sensible option for someone like him. :)

You're joking right? Playing Asian Champs and a bunch of mediocre test matches is not a step down in competitiveness compared to Euro Champs, world champs and hopefully Olympics alongside guys like Nowitzki? The PBA is a pretty solid and entertaining league, but yet no comparison to quite some european leagues, not to mention international competition like euro league etc.

Anyway, Standhardinger yet has to show that he can make it as a pro. So far he had solid stats in a semi pro league (Pro B) here in Germany, mainly used as a development league for young Germans, and a handfull of solid college games. From there, it may still be a long way to become a standout player. It's not yet even sure that he could actually deliver, what some of you guys may see in him. Although he surely is a very gifted player, he's still very young and still has a lot to learn.

In the Philippines, he may get the warmer welcome, but expectations would be very high, and the dream could quickly end if he can't live up to that. In Germany, the road would certainly be rougher for him in the beginning because of the tougher competition for starting jobs, but wouldn't he benefit more from the coaching over here as well as practising with and playing against stronger players?

Well, we could continue this now like a tennis match, back and forth, without making any progress until we know what Christian himself really wants. Maybe he will study in Germany, quit pro ball and make us both look stupid. :D

In my oppinion, the future of philippine basketball doesn't lay in the hands of foreign players (yes I know Chris is half pinoy) anyway. As soon as they begin to shine, they'll be on their ways to Europe, the States or whatever, and Gilas can start all over again.

ok now it has surfaced. You look at asian level so down.:p
yeah we know we are behind europe.
btw, we are talking about possibility or chances of standhardinger going here. not europe vs asia talk.ok? we know that europe is above asia. period.

really? so the win and close games of talk n text without any import on its roster and no one standing above 6'6 against serbian teams is a joke..

btw imo CS's game wont fit in the PBA.Yep he is good but i think he wont fit. Coz the PBA has a unique style of play that most of us here are not that amazed but sometimes proud of.lol. He really better play in other pro leagues but i do wish he consider playing in our national team.

And pls. dont compare jollibee to mcdonalds again.
you dont know jollibee that much.:D

here we go again... i have read this argument last year... i think its time to move on... lets just wait for his decision and find out who is right...

don't worry too much guys. bsgermany is pinoy by heart. he just doesn't wanna make it obvious. :p

as for standhardinger, u.s. ncaa turned out to be a mistake. imagine if he just went to manila and played for smart gilas..... sayang........
