It is quite unbelievable. He didnt mentioned specifically. Probably alcohol and betting services. Its not allowed in his religion. It could also be possible that zalgiris is having some financial problems, but it would be strange seeing one guy go while others didnt even mention any real problems.

The guy is obsessed with religion, so somekind I'm not surprised. If you can recall, he missed Eurobasket cause ramadan, the whole last season cause of religion and he wanted to improve his faith or smth, you can even check some of video in yuotube where he says speeches to community, is somekind of preacher or so, plays bball in muslims champ and so on. So it's obvious that religion means much more than basketball for him. Also his wafe gave a birth to his 1st child, so I guess, he wanted just to move home, to pay all the attention to family and so on. While these cheeleders thing, or commercials are just excuses. Tho, even I'm not religious, but somekind I do understand that at some point of life some things becomes way more important than money or bball. Even his shape dropped lately. Good luck to Ibby

One betting company has a logo on Zalgiris' jerseys and two alcohol breweries.

But it could be anything really. He just got a baby. Winters here are cold and dark. No muslim people around. Maybe he is looking what's best for his family.. Who knows..
Inside conflict with owner also highly possible.

Anyway it's a huge blow for us and definitely a downer.

Jaaber also said that due to this reason he will never play in Europe. Very strange for me, knowing the fact that he played here a couple of years before...

Well I respect his decision. When I was watching interviews with him, I was thinking, wow, this guy is really intelligent, even the way he speaks. Basketball is not everything, it's great that he has moral, religious principles. It's a rare thing in basketball. I wish most basketball player would have an intelectual, cultural desire as well and not only go after hip-hop music. It was great to see Jaaber in Žalgiris. Good luck for him!

Sad for Zalgiris fans to lose an important player at this stage.

Can't really criticise him for this but disappointed if we won't see him play in Europe again.

Salafis in basketball, ain't it funny? Really retarded decision, even if I don't like those sultry dancers and breweries ads myself. I hope that I'm wrong with my guesses but it looks like pretty obvious salafi brainwashing, especially if he says that he doesn't want to play in Europe specifically. Is US any better with its cheerleaders and stuff like that? I respect any religious views aside from the ones based on intolerance and hate for others but still it looks strange.

What a load of bs..It took him 4 seasons to realise that there are cheerleaders(oh the horror) in european basketball?Hypocrite much.

Well, its seems money is def not the problem, cause he didnt cared about them much, also was very responsible, never late, unselfish. I guess that newborn changed his mind.

Good for him, bad for us.

I appreciate your sense of humour but I'm a heterosexual. Yet I think that showing your intimate parts abase women and I like much more to look at modestly clothed (pretty) girls seeing whom I can pay my attention to her true self rather than to her tits falling out off her tight top or ass fitted by skinny jeans. I don't think that we need all those glamour girls dancing on the basketball court - our beloved game is so exciting even without this vulgar attempts to sexualize it and to make show out of it. But that's just my personal opinion. Yet Ibby with these statements looks like an example of hypocritical salafi whom I definitely like much less than those dancer girls. Ok, I thnik we've gone to the off-topic area too far :)

Ibby is a clever player on-court and most probaby a clever person off-court also but I don't like this type of hypocrisy. Did he forgot about cheerleaders in Europe after one year of absence and right now in the middle of the season he came to realize how much it's unacceptable for such a religious person? Sounds strange...

Children change people. Especially the first one.

The criticism of Europe for having cheerleaders (if that was one of his reasons) is funny given that it is clearly an Americanism that the game here hasn't shaken off. But Terrorizer, your Khimki dancers particularly seem to have many fans across Europe!

Anyway, people may also have called him hypocritical if he was openly religious and didn't object to alcohol and betting sponsors or scantily clad dancers.

I respect everyone beliefs and religion, unless it's violent to other people, at the same time it feels very unprofessional to leave your team at this point in the season, without anything that may have changed from when he signed the contract.

too bad he was the only player in Europe who can properly defend Farmar

Ettore on Turkish national team bench! So we'll have three italian coaches in the same Eurobasket group : Ettore - Simone - Trinchieri.....

respect religious priority. he won't earn his salary, so what about you? care about your life.

i would like Jure Zdovc as a coach of Turkish NT instead Messina who is not hungry to win by now.

Ergin Ataman would have been the perfect choice

oh no, thank you.
I remember one time he was a telephone guest on a basketball program on TV where they were criticizing Turkish NT and Tanjevic and he said "I think a Turkish coach should manage the NT" obviously meaning himself. such a cocky man. I don't like him.
