Typical US POINTguard with high EGO who can destroy all the system on the floor...
Vujcic was far from a nobody, he was one of the most touted youngsters in Europe, i remember Real Madrid being very interested in him before he joined Maccabi.Kukoc and Radja came from Jugoplastica's youth, while Vujcic and Parker were scouted and signed early, while being nobodies.
vujcic nobady.....just like benetton done grat scouting with moteijunas or bologna with lorbek
vujcic for surley wasn't nobady, he was always known as one of best prospect in europe, very hyped, dominated youth competitions along with giricek and sesar, had great season with kk split wich made something in iternational stage and was member of croatian national team alredy for 4 years in starting 5 along with kukoc, mulamerovic, giricek.....that surley isn't description of unknown player.....grat scouting is when you take some kid from 2nd german league as lotto pick and that guy becomes future hall of famer, not somebody who was sucsefull in iternational stages for years. maybe you consider that becose those days forums, ilegal streams, prospects hype sites were not so popular vujcic nobady
the fact is that Pini with a roster cost of abt 15m really struggled in his second year in Greece.
Olympiacos had CSKA, TAU and Montepaschi in front of it during the regular season. Those three made it to the Final 4. Olympiacos eliminated Real MAdrid and made it to the quarterfinals, where it los 1-2 to the eventual champion CSKA Moscow, taking the game in Moscow. The second year roster however was much weaker than first year's one. The fact that he has not won a title doesn't make those seasons a failure. At least, he came much closer to winning the Greek league than Yannakis with a much more star-studden and expensive roster.
Examples like that of Nowitzki happen very seldom. Hi luck was having landed in Don Nelson' system. An other coach would have misused him as center and thus would not let him show his true potential. Nelson applied the same playing system like in the 1980ies Milwaukee Bucks and let Dirk shoot from outside and mid-range.
Vujcic was not a superstar he became. One can say, he wasn't a nobody since he starred for your teams (which is an equivalent of being nobody on men's level) and has laready proven himself in Split. Surely, he was on a different level of being known than Parker and especially Baston. However, you cannot compare him to Saras. He had good statistics on a mediocre team with a lot of freedoms. It's sth. different than being an important part of an all-star squad. But when this all-star squad came together, none of them culd be considered as an All-Star. Yet they've won right away.
what r u talking abt now??
He got fired on the end of the regular season after a disaster 7-7.
Yannakis was the coach against Madrid and Cska.
With such a big budget something else than 2nd place in the group behind Cska was not acceptable and he managed to finish in the last qualifing place of the group even worst than Zalgiris though....
Monumental memory collapse. Stupid me. Gershon was replaced after the regular season.
Still, a reshuffled roster in the second season and a very strong group were the reason, although Olympiacos was expected to record a few wins more. Again, three teams from this group played in the Final 4 that year and their budgets were quite high, too. It would be better to look at the next couple of seasons, monstrous budgets by Olympiacos, real All-Star rosters and still no titles.
damn, he wasn't superstar with 21-23, like he was with 25.....and split that year wasn't split is today, it was actually better split then cibona was 2 years ago. they lost from maccabi in qf if i remeber it well. he played in croatian senior nt big role, wich surley isn't "nothing"...it was so hard to recognize kid who is batling with fucka and playing along with kukoc. he had offers from all round europe, and decided from maccabi...it was great scouting like siena one with bo maccaleb

Just for the records let me remind that Pavisevic has won 2 euroleague titles too....![]()
He did nothing big at the NT. Just a random player on a not so soccussful NT. Please. When he came to Maccabi, he was not the arrived superstar like Jasikevicius. This is what it is all about. Not that he was a bad player or anything else. It's not that Maccabi made him. But Maccabi gave him the chance to maximize his strength and he won titles there, becoming a living legend in Europe.
The original talk started about Gershon being unable to work with a roster not full of All-Stars successfully. He was doing so before Maccabi (Galil Elyon), with Maccabi and after Maccabi (Bulgarian NT). In Maccabi, he coached two teams with totally different playing styles to championships in Europe. One wa all about defense and nobody knew its players. The other was all about offense with just one arrived superstar, lots of role players and a couple of guys who proved to be not only great but legendary. I was just opposing a wrong allegation.
and their competition csk, pao, barca don't have monsterus budgetswhen gershon won titles with maccabi, maccabi was one of richest teams in europe and still is among top 10 with money...they beat buch of youngsters from bologna wich surley didn't have bigger budget then maccabi
the fact that team wasn't sucsefull is question for it's self, and has nothing to do with his quality, just like serbia 05.
he was just good decision and sing of one hyped player who alredy done something, not big, but also not anything, that didn't turn to be a bust. he wasn't star like saras, but was far from nobady like you said
neither gershon is bad coach, neither is bad for scouting but is far from how you describe him
