VEF Riga isn't interested in Homicius, but misunderstanding happened after Valdis Valters' twitter post, where he said that one coach will visit Riga Friday. Today he concretized that post and said that Rimas Kurtinaitis will visit Riga. We'll see what they disscuss, but it would really suprise me if Kurtinaitis would accept VEF's offer. If so, then only because he and Valters are old buddies.

Also longshot to get VEF Riga head coach position is Donaldas Kairys.

Of course he was an important player, especially in the light of lack of big centers. Lasme made Maccabi's game quicker, more athletic and more defensive oriented. This was the reason why Lampe was released. He was too soft, not somebody who could bang bodies under the basket. With him, Maccabi would be inferior to good teams with good centers, while with Lasme it was a tougher nut to crack as it was playing a different style. With an offensively more potent low-post center, Lasme would thrive but in 2009/10 he was living off MTA's guards only.

Lasme was not released because he is a bad player, unworthy to wear Maccabi's jersey. New coach comes in with a different strategy, while Maccabi will try to bring Israeli players back. Eliyahu plays the same position as Lasme does. While imho a healthy Eliyahu-Lasme combo could work out, as Eliyahu possesses a low post game, can drive with his ball handling skills and has enough court vision to pass the ball to Lasme in the appropriate moment, MTA's owners decided to clear as much space as possible, so the new coach can build sth. of his own.

Only you still haven't got it.

That's not true. Every coach has his own philosophy, sometimes being limited by restrictions of the team's management. Lasme is not the best player. HE is a very important role player, one every decent team should have on its roster BUT with appropriate players playing with him such as good passers and a big center able to play with his back to the basket.

It's not about surrendering. It's about bashing of a quite successful team that is surely far from being immune from criticism but one that doesn't deserve such bashing.

A player like Eliyahu (aside from hi Israeli passport) is not more valuable for a team than Lasme. The shots Lasme doesn't convert on offense, Eliyahu doesn'T defend on defense. While a team can cope with a non-shooting player on offense (who can still score off tip.ins, alley-oops and good passes), a liability on defense gives the opponent a chance to score every time down the floor. You simply don't get it. No big club will have a player not working his ass off on defense but they can live with a player with limited offensive skills as long as he gives it a new dimension on defense.

Lasme's out and the search for a new PF has started. Imho it should be a player that doesn't have similar skills to Eliyahu's. Imho it should be a banger with a solid midrange shot. A different style so MTA can have more options in its game. If the team would have more money, I wouldn't want Lasme to be released. Sign a good center and a reliable shooter that can create his own shot and is deadly off the pick (doesn't have to be a slasher, a big ppg producer) and Lasme will be the extra push that brings you to the Final Four. He can run, he can jump, he can defend anybody. He has a total dedication to defense and doesn't sleep there. I don't see why he should be worse than Baston who profited so much by playing alongside a great center with great IQ, a PG with great IQ and shooters around him to open the space for him to operate directly under the basket.

why ar enot they thinking celaning fischer and perkins ? come on, a team decide tio relase players who disappointed not best players to "clena" for another coach!!

Because Fischer is 211 cm tall? Because is about to marry his Israeli girlfriend and thus possibly getting the Israeli citizenship? Because he has a reliable jumpshot and a large wing span allowing him to block shots?

Perkins is one of the best all-rounders in Europe and doesn't cost much. He is not depending on his teammates but creates situations for them and for himself. He has no competition from Israelis at his position.

Lasme never disappointed. MTA knew what it wa getting with him and he played an important role for this team, doing his job very well. But as the team decided to go in a different direction, it is bringing in a new coach and more local players. That's it.
