I agree In nba this should also take effect eg Mavericks out, Tulsa 66ers to join in the league. I don t like nba so as euroleague fan it would be great for me. Also reduce nba teams budgets to 20M$ would take positive aspects I think

Definetely agree. This is destroying any excitement for the national leagues. These kind of things minimize the legitimacy of basketball to non basketball fans. Wild cards, A licenses...Spare me.

Guys A-License just protects teams from a surprising end in their domestic leagues. For example if CSKA ends up third in Russian league, there's no reason to cut the team from Euroleague, because it might be the same strong team. And Euroleague needs the strong basketball power houses.
If CSKA ends up third, then we would have to add 3 Russian teams in Euroleague. The same thing is going to happen with the Spanish teams. The next year we will have five teams from Spain if I'm not mistaken.

It is a good thing if we want our countries to play with more teams in Euroleague.

But in general idea, everything is wrong about Euroleague. That's why I believe in a close league with the best European clubs and the last 8 places open in order to welcome other Domestic league champions form other countries.

I can't recognise what exactly does CSKA bring to euroleague except for their ultra high long term structuraly-unsustainable budget? Enormous attendance? Big TV contract? If they wouldn't participate in euroleague I don't think that's a catastrophe, on the opposite it might actualy encourage them to build long planned teams, force them to give a slight effort to increase the revenues etc. as they're doing nothing on that behalf right now, they are not even respecting some basic A licence demands. If they fail to qualify to euroleague through Russian championship that's the price they should pay, since that's an integral part of the competition and euroleague is supposed to be (at least a vast majority of it's fans want it to be) the competition where the best european clubs compete, not some traditional tournamet with random invitees some people feel neccesary to compete there.

Okay, even if there would be a need for some teams to play there and unfortunate season might prevent them from doing so, those are maybee one case or two per year, get them that wild card for that season - if they fail second time in a row, or even 3rd time, than obviously they're not doing something right, I honestly can't understand why should they be rewarded with an A licence for that ... 14 licences out of 24 teams? that's way too much...
That leads ending up with teams as Siena and Beneton and Prokom etc. which except for some expensive rosters haven't really brought much to the euroleague elsewhere, got all the attention and protection they've needed just to... fall into obscurity while other teams might be better in long term if placed under the same circumstances. We can't say what exactly would happen if they would be, noone can't, but that's the exact reason participation of clubs shouldn't be decided based on Jordi's sympathies, as they are right now, no matter which criteria supposedly exist on the matter and A licences need to be abolished.


I believe I can say I am very devoted basketball fan, do you think I really care in case CSKA, Bayern, Milano or someone else is left out of euroleague? I doubt I could care less While others, potentialy less devoted fans, that I believe are in vast majority, won't even care about euroleague one bit unless their own team is participating there, making it a closed league is just neglecting those very fans and making basketball a matter of 10-15 urban regions in europe which at the moment, don't raise even 20% of all the young basketball talent I'd say... and that isn't leading to anyplace nice for european basketball and it's future imho

So if CSKA ends up third in Russia and won't make it in F4 then what r u suggest?
That we wouldn't have CSKA in next Euroleague's season? A team that reached Euroleague's final four?
It's difficult to make such a decision and it would be unfair to CSKA since its Euroleague last appearance was successful by reaching the F4.

See? All this things going on in European basketball with so many countries and so many domestic and euro - leagues, at the end of the day the only thing is happening is to create a chaos.

If we want to be fair then the only teams that would justified to participate in Euroleague, that would be only the champions teams of their domestic leagues.
Otherwise we create a Euro-league with many underprivileged teams and countries.

You got me here still, as much as I love Red Foxes, for me CSKA is still a club I could easily miss, while I still have the nostalgia for the both clubs from Bologna, will miss Partizan next season and would miss Maccabi, Žalgiris, to some extent Tau feeling empathy for those devoted fans, without being in favour of any of those clubs being grated an A licence anyway.


If CSKA doesn't make it, let them rebuild. Rebuilding is a natural process trying to get better, without that the club/organisation will progress at a slower pace or in extreme cases as we've seen with so many Uleb-protected clubs make them deteriorate some to the brink of extintion.
I can also easily agree to the F4 participants being guaranteed a place in euroleague the season after, that's no problem at all. I could agree with the same with all top8 teams - these are all criterias based on competitive results. Unicaja's licence as an example, isn't such... it's based on a preference of few individuals that shouldn't have that power in a serious competition, which euroleague obviously isn't.
CSKA being out of the euroleague doesn't seem a chaos to me. And I am never talking about the champion of Cyprus in the euroleague, but I am definately in favour for them to have a chance to get there when they are competitive enough and proove that on court, unlike getting there when Jordi feels like it. That's a huge difference.
