That was the effort most people missed with France in the group stage. That was a very different performance today.

Touchy ? No. I can sense this kind of provocation, especially here (and from anyone from the adriatic area, not necessary serbs).
I was pointing out that if to be successfull a NT was to have the best coach, that would known for a long time. A good and smart manager is much more useful. Collet never pretended to be the best coach, nor anyone else. But he manages very well players ego, and he developed also very well our frontcourt offense which has been historically our main weakness. In game, he could do better. But the main mistakes comes from players most of the time (you cannot understand since you probably dont know french). Tonight, he benched parker for obvious reasons, not sure many big name coach around would have done this. As well as playing big in the begining when we were outrebounded.
He would not do bad if he had Djordjevic's players :)

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against French or him. Just saying he is an average coach. I don't think Djordjevic is a great coach either. He is great motivator, leader and has excellent feel for the game since he was an elite player at PG, so that's natural. In terms of X and Os he is still behind as well as experience. I didn't say this system doesn't work for French, just a note that he is an average coach. It's not a provocation.

I remember the last few games we played vs You and he was just terrible at adjustments and making the right calls. Just really bad for that level. Also I watched a lot of games when he coached ASVEL and Strasbourg. He was often outcoached as well.

Ataman screwed again.

This guy doesn't know to set decent defense and that's it.

There were some positive things but I don't like his coaching philosophy. Win against weaker opponent, give up and lose by 20 if opponent is powerhouse.

Janketa maybe you won't believe but I do agree with you. I still think he is a great coach but he is too far away from being the coach of NT. He doesn't know how to use rotation.

The best thing is we will never see this Ataman thing anymore. He can create 2 different 12 player roster twice a year in Galatasaray after today.

I understand your disappointment, but you have to be realistic. This Turkey team had good chemistry and a solid defense, but they had no prayer against the elite teams. I actually consider it progress, that they easily survived the Berlin group.the coach did a good job, and i expect the Turks to come back stronger next time, with the next-generation talent emerging.

They haven't played a single good defensive game, except germany to a point!!! Bad coaching job in general.

well deserved win..Congrats to France

but I am not impressed. If tony parker keeps playing like this, France could not win gold medal.
btw,what happaned to boris diaw.

I guess, he puts on 50 kg

I don't agree with you our rotation too narrow to do good defence ersan, osman, sinan and dixon has no good back up very limited roster when the our bench players including the game our defence falling apart suddenly because of that most of our starter players played 30+ minutes throughout the tourney.we losing our toughness toward end of the game and the group phrase was too tough this limited roster. Ataman decided to rest starter players against Spain didn't want to win If they had played 30+ minutes like the other games they wasn't stay fresh and we couldn't upset to germany for sure. We desperately missed Asik and Balbay.

Just tell me who you defended well except one half vs Germany? Rotation is the issue of the coach. If he decided to tank then there is even less excuse. Italy didn't tank a single game and played all their starters 30+, noone complained. I think this team could've done more and played better. Ataman didn't do a very good coaching job. So far the job Flemming, Perasovic and Scariolo are doing the worst job, Ataman is close behind.

Game set a European attendance record for Basketball, 24,232. Just a bonus for France!

Not even close, but ok, this is a record for modern era I guess. :)

On April 4, 1968, the 1967–68 FIBA European Cup Winner's Cup final was hosted in the stadium where AEK Athens defeated Slavia Prague in front of around 80,000 seated spectators inside the arena and another 40,000 standing spectators. It is believed that since that game the Panathenaic Stadium holds the world record attendance for any basketball game to date.[6]

In the end of the day Spain losing to Italy really screwed the Turks.Instead of playing against Israel and then Lietuva they had to face France in top 16.

true, but the same about big margin loss agains spain...

One of my favourite stats is the +/- index, I believe it is often able to express additional aspects of the game which often left unnoticed by traditional statistics.

If you don't count the games against Israel / Bosnia (which didn't have any real value starting from the second minute of the game), then:
In 108 minutes that Tony parker was on the court France lead by 9, at the 57 minutes that he was on the bench France lead by 34. (By the way, without the overtime against Finland Tony Parker has -1 index!).

Even if you count the games against Israel / Bosnia, Parker still doesn't look like someone who leads the team: +48 in 150 minutes with him, +47 in 95 minutes without him.

As with any stats, +/- doesn't show the whole story, but in Parker case I believe the numbers are so significant that we can derive that he is just not one of the main guys of his team.

Usually when a team is heavily depended on some guy, you see it on his +/- indicator. In Israel 4 games Casspi is with +22 in 151 minutes on the court in oppose to -6 in 14 minutes on the bench. If you count the game against France as bench time for him then we have -31 in 54 without him on the court.

Diaw was always a bit fat. Sometimes barely looking like a profesional athlete.

Sorry, but I don't think having a different coach would have mattered. Turkey is just not on a level of teams like France.

If you compare super talented Italian team with us something wrong with that they mostly doesn't care to do tough defence because of that they are rely on their offence potential look at spain game they made 105 points against spain this Italy team totally different story and also they have good back up players we have no! It's quite about Paninigianin's choice that's why they have no right to complain about to giving their players 30+min.

You can critise to Ataman roster selection before the tourney there were some good option including to roster on pg spot Engin Atsür and Şafak Edge had a good year with their teams and Kartal Ozmızrak simply is not ready at the moment to player on this level and also Enes Kanter etc.but with this roster we did our best bwt do you really think Italy played full desire to win against Serbia?
