What does the Philippine team need to watch out for (vol III)

the guest teams are also b or c teams of their respective countries.

Which means it's pointless for China A to battle them because China A will easily beat these C teams. Yes it will be good for team chemistry but they will be facing inferior competition in this year's Stankovic.

==================================

Korean senior NT for William Jones cup 2013 - Jul 3, 2013

Korean senior national team will participate in William Jones cup 2013 in Taipei. Coach Yoo JaeHak decided to make Moon Seong-gon, Lee Seung-hyun and Ki Seung-ho out of the final roster. Now Korea has 13 players in their roster including Lee Seung-jun and Moon Tae-young.

According to FIBA rules, only one ethnic Korean can make to the final roster for Asian Basketball Championship 2013 in Philippines. That is why Coach Yoo has to make a choice soon between Lee Seung-jun and Moon Tae-young. Coach Yoo thinks that William Jones Cup can give him an opportunity to make that decision.

Strong Guards are lethal weapons of Korea. They have 2012-2013 Korean Basketball League regular season MVP Kim Sun-hyung and Finals MVP Yang dong-geun. Kim Tae-sool is definitely the best point guard in Korea. Kim Min-goo and Park Chan-hee are incredible scorers.

On the other hand, team Korea's biggest weakness is low post. Former NBA player Ha Seung-jin (221cm), the biggest player in Korea, cannot play this year because of the military duty. Also, No.1 power forward Oh Se-Keun who was finals MVP for 2011-2012 season of KBL is out due to ankle and foot injuries.

Talented forwards, Choi Jin-soo and Yang Hee-jong are also out for some major injuries. Veteran big man Kim Joo-sung who already retired from Korean national team two years ago is rejoining for his country.

"We got a confidence to compete with any Asian team like Asian champ Iran and rival China. Our goal is to get at least 3rd place in ABC. Then, we can get a ticket for world championship in Spain next year" Coach Yoo said.

Forwards: Moon Tae-young, Cho Sung-min, Yoon Ho-young, Choi Bu-kyung

Centers: Kim Joo-sung, Kim Jong-kyu, Lee Jong-hyun, Lee Seung-jun

Honestly, me too. I want Korea in the knockout stages since we're familiar with how they play, not some team that's pretty much under the umbrella of obscurity like Kazakhstan. It's a huge gamble considering what is at stake (not just the semifinal and WC slot, but also the pride of the Filipinos raring to get back at them after Busan and Wuhan).

Remember, Chot is the only guy that coached a Philippine team that defeated a senior Sokor NT since Busan and that was in the 2007 Jones Cup. Heck, that was the only time we beat them since Busan.

Yeng's team got close, but were beaten three times -.- . 83-80 in the 2009 Jones Cup, 69-56 and 82-80 in Tianjin 2009.

Toroman meanwhile, had a 78-70 loss in the Jones Cup followed by that pakengshet game v2.0 in Wuhan, 70-68.

I really think our current team can pull it off. Imagine the quarterfinal atmosphere in MOA when we face the Koreans in a KO game :D If I were in the stadium, I'd make a banner:

"VENGEANCE FOR BUSAN 2002 & WUHAN 2011." :D

I would love to witness a Phl-SoKor match also and that banner idea is great. I will create mine too.

I think we should never have hatred on what happened in the past.. because in the end it will haunt us and still never get the job done..What we think of Korea is what Taiwan thinks of us..

Think about it...we all knew what Taiwan is in Phil. Basketball...

Good karma lang. We show respect and Class, we are sure to receive something else in return.

MANAMA moved one victory away from clinching this year's title in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League following a thrilling 73-70 victory over Muharraq last night in game two of their best-of-five championship series.

Manama squandered a 15-point lead in the second half but did enough late in the game to hold on to the advantage and take the commanding 2-0 finals lead.

Mohammed Hassan made two pressure-packed free-throws with 7.6 seconds remaining to give Manama the three-point winning margin.

Mohammed Abdulmajeed had a chance to tie the game for Muharraq on the next possession, but his desperation three-point attempt clanged off the rim as the final buzzer sounded.

Manama can now finish things off and ensure their coronation as this year's league champions with a victory in game three on Thursday. A win for Muharraq would extend the series to a fourth game, scheduled for Sunday, while the fifth and final game, if needed, will be held on Friday next week.

Muharraq mounted a furious comeback from 10 points down beginning the fourth quarter to set up the nail-biting finish.

Naturalised Bahraini big man CJ Giles made a pair of three-throws with around five minutes left in the game to bring Muharraq to within two, 56-60.

And then after an offensive rebound and put back by Senegalese import and former NBA player Pape Sow (207-F-81, college: CS Fullerton) put Manama back up by six, 62-56, Ahmed Al Derazi buried back-to-back three-pointers to tie the scores for the first time in the game and give Muharraq new life.

But just as Muharraq had levelled the proceedings, Sow made a jump hook and then two charity shots to give them another four-point lead with under a minute remaining.

Ahead

Baskets from Al Derazi and Mohammed Hussain on either end of the floor kept Manama ahead 68-64, and then after a pair of Giles free-throws, Manama point guard Ahmed Abdulaziz drove the lane and found Sow who made a crucial basket for a 70-66 lead with 18.8 seconds remaining.

Super substitute Kadhem Majed banked in a shot for Muharraq, who then fouled Hassan Nairouz on the inbounds to stop the clock.

Nairouz made just one of two free-throws, keeping Muharraq within a single possession, and Giles scored on the other end to make it 70-71 and set the stage for Hassan's two game-clinching charity shots.

Sow top scored for the victors with 26 points. Hassan finished with 18, while Hussain chipped in with 15 for Manama. Giles paced Muharraq with a game-high 28 while Al Derazi added another 20 in the loss. Abdulmajeed scored nine points while Majed came off the bench to contribute six.

Manama came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter last night. A Hassan fast-break lay-up gave them a 10-2 lead, and then later a Sow triple made it 20-7. Another long-range bomb from beyond the arc gave Manama a commanding 23-8 advantage to end the first quarter, and then in the second, they continued their barrage and led by as many as 17 on more than one occasion.

A Hussain three-pointer late in the half helped put Manama up 38-23 heading into the locker rooms.

Muharraq did well to bounce back in the final 20 minutes, but came up short in the end although missed a couple of chances in which they could have taken control of the game.

Confirmed. Bahrain has naturalized CJ Giles.

I'm pretty certain that they'll give Kazakhstan a run for their money, which means goodbye India and Thailand. They've improved based on their recent results (they almost won vs Qatar in the Gulf qualifiers).

on a positive POV, the quest to get even againts the sokors is a good source of added motivation for the gilas boys come august. "not in our house", they'll say.

I think Chot also won against a Korean team (albeit, a ballclub) in the 2012 Jones Cup, through the heroics of Jeff Chan, if I recall correctly.

i think it was david with back to back baskets that gave 4 point lead and sealed the win for gilas.

The club they played was Anyang KGC, the South Korean pro league (KBL) champions that year.

It was David. He sank a couple of clutch, in-your-face baskets against a taller and pretty sticky Korean defender which left the defender looking at his coach in dismay as though looking at him and saying "I did everything right, it just went in!". I remember the coach just grinning and smiling his frustration off. It was pretty funny to say the least.

Chot also coached the 2007 that defeated the SK NT led by Ha-Seung Jin in the 2007 edition. Thanks to Caguioa and Helterbrand's heroics :D

And I hope there won't be another Olsen Racela guest commentator scene again. :P

Oh God.
