Jeremy Lin (Golden State Warriors 2010-2011)

To prepare for his visit to Asia (sponsored by Nike) this summer Lin has joined Sina Weibo and has posted tweets in Chinese, but obviously needs more work on the language. I mean his Chinese is understandable but the wording and order is (slightly) awkward. Who knows, he may have used Google translator :D But at least he's trying. It's not an easy language to learn that's for sure. But he has said his listening is good (his parents always talk to him in Chinese and he replies in English) and I guess that counts for something.

I just worry he'll post "Gospel tweets" too soon and turn people off.

Jeremy Lin alongside teammates David Lee and Ekpe Udo were in attendance on the press conference by the Golden State Warriors on formally introducing new Executive Affiliate Jerry West.

Lin touched down in Shanghai with family. Like the visit to Taiwan last year, after 2 sentences of Chinese he answered everything else in English. He's honest though, telling reporters that he even had to memorize and practice the 2 sentences. The two Chinese sentences: "Hi everyone. I'm sorry but my Chinese isn't good so I will switch to English now." :o

This is his first trip to Mainland China. Tomorrow the family will visit their ancestral home in Pinghu, Zhejiang Province, and the place is going crazy because he's probably the biggest celebrity to ever visit there. His younger brother Joseph will attend the Nike All-Asia Camp in Dongguan 2 weeks from now.

He won't go to Taiwan until August. I guess at this point the possibility of him suiting up for Chinese Taipei NT isn't very big.

Do you mean he will be competing as well? and is Jeremy going to help coach?
Yes, he'll be competing as a special entry. Jeremy won't coach but he and the family are currently in Dongguan. He spent some days in the new basketball academy, headed by Dongguan Leopards' assistant coach Li Qun. I think he will return stateside in a few days, but his brother will stay.

In other news, Chinese Taipei Basketball Association's new head Ding Shou-Chung reportedly went to the Bay Area last week to meet him. I think it's reasonable to say no agreement has been reached. Reporters did ask him in China on whether he will consider playing for China NT. His response: "I've given it some thoughts but I don't think I'm in the position to talk about it right now." Personally I think he's waiting for the NBA lockout situation to make a decision.

I find this picture interesting. Is he writing in Chinese characters because that's what it looks like. (Mom is to his left.) For someone who doesn't speak much Mandarin, his listening is pretty good, as this video shows:

Right now just American.

Taiwan's United News reported last month that China's American head coach Bob Donewald has made a private effort to recruit him, which I find bizarre. When reporters asked Donewald to confirm this news, he merely answered, "You know, Jeremy is an excellent player, but I don't have much to say about him."

On the other hand, Chinese Taipei's coach and head of Basketball Federation both openly expressed desire to recruit him.

From a practical side of things, it's much easier for him to get a Taiwanese passport. However, as this recent news showed it's also not completely impossible for him to play in China.

do you know if Jeremy could still compete in the CBA as a Chinese Taipei player (thus a local), if he gains a passport with them?

I don't know the logistics. I think potentially teams may even sign him as an import. After all he can't be worse than say, Walker Russell Jr. who posted worse statistics in the D-league.

They did ask him if he'd come to the CBA in case there is a lockout, and he says, like all the other NBA players who were asked this question, that he wouldn't rule out this possibility. He says he has yet to watch a CBA game but intends to do that once he goes back, now that he has met some players and coaches in China.
