NBA Player Injuries 2010-2011 Season

Bucks' Gooden out 4-6 weeks with plantar fasciitis

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Bucks forward Drew Gooden will be sidelined four to six weeks because of lingering problems with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

General manager John Hammond says Gooden will undergo treatment on Wednesday in Los Angeles. The injury has already cost Gooden 21 games this season, including the past six.

Gooden signed a $32 million, five-year contract in the offseason. He's averaging 10.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in 25 games this season. Gooden used padding in his shoe to try to alleviate the pain, but was often limping in pregame.

"It's just part of our season so far," coach Scott Skiles said. "You don't ever want anybody to be out, but at least we know now how long he's going to be out."

Skiles spoke before the Bucks played at Phoenix on Wednesday night. In addition to Drew's absence, Milwaukee also was without center Andrew Bogut because of a bruised right knee. Bogut was relieved that the injury was not more serious. He was hurt in the fourth quarter of Milwaukee's loss to the Clippers in Los Angeles.

Kleiza done for season after microfracture surgery on knee

TORONTO (AP) -- Linas Kleiza could miss up to a year after the Toronto Raptors forward had surgery to repair cartilage damage in his right knee.

Kleiza had the microfracture surgery Wednesday in Vail, Colo., the team said in a statement Thursday. Kleiza had missed Toronto's past seven games.
The former Missouri star averaged 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 39 games this season. He had six games of 20 or more points, including a season-best 26 on Dec. 10 against Denver, which he matched nine days later against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kleiza signed an $18.8-million, four-year deal with Toronto in July.

Anderson to replace Bass in Magic's starting lineup

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Magic coach Stan Gundy said that he will start forward Ryan Anderson against Miami in place of Brandon Bass, who sustained a left ankle sprain earlier this week.

Anderson will start in Thursday night's national television matchup with the Southeast Division-leading Heat. It will be Anderson's fifth start of the season. Bass went down in the Magic's 100-97 loss to Memphis on Monday night. He is expected to miss at least the next five games and may be out until the all-star break.
Van Gundy says that he may make some adjustments on a night-to-night basis while Bass is out, but that his absence will mean increased minutes for reserve forward Earl Clark and Malik Allen, who hasn't played since Dec. 20 with an ankle sprain.

Hawks' Horford out with back contusion

WASHINGTON (AP) -- All-Star center Al Horford will miss the Atlanta Hawks' game at the Washington Wizards due to a bruised back.

Horford had a hard foul Friday night after a flagrant foul by the Clippers' Blake Griffin, then made two free throws in the final second to give Atlanta a 101-100 victory.

Coach Larry Drew said Horford was still sore from the collision, although Horford told reporters he was "fine" before it was announced the center would be inactive for Saturday night's game.

Horford is averaging 16.2 points and 9.9 rebounds and has started all 48 games he has played this season.

Cavs' Varejao set to have surgery on ankle

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao will have surgery on Feb. 12 to repair a torn tendon in his right ankle.

Varejao suffered the season-ending injury during practice on Jan. 6. After consulting with several physicians, Varejao chose Dr. Robert Anderson, who will perform the operation in Charlotte, N.C. Varejao says his rehab could take up to four months, but he expects to come back at 100 percent.

The Cavs, who carried a 23-game losing streak into Saturday's game against Portland, have sorely missed Varejao's inside presence and hustle. He says it's been frustrating to sit and watch his teammates struggle.

Celtics G Marquis Daniels leaves game on stretcher

BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Celtics guard Marquis Daniels has left the game on a stretcher after colliding with Gilbert Arenas of the Orlando Magic.

The Celtics said Daniels, who gave a thumbs-up sign as he was taken off the court Sunday, hurt his neck and was taken to New England Baptist Hospital for examination.

He was hurt with 11:01 left in the second quarter after he began driving to the basket from the right side of the lane and hit his head on Arenas' left shoulder. Daniels fell to the court and lay motionless for a few minutes with his head facing down while surrounded by coaches and teammates near his bench.

Medical personnel put a neck brace on Daniels and strapped him onto a stretcher before he left to the cheers of the crowd, which had remained very quiet until then.

I was watching the game... Daniels fell flat on the ground as if he was knocked out in a UFC/MMA event and was out cold for a while :(.
Hope he recovers back soon and it's not a serious injury.

Recovering Haslem aiming to get boot off Tuesday

MIAMI (AP) -- Heat forward Udonis Haslem says the walking boot protecting his surgically repaired left foot should be gone Tuesday, after which he can begin rehabilitation.

Haslem has not played since Nov. 20. He had surgery to repair a ruptured ligament, was in a cast for several weeks, then the walking boot.

If doctors clear him, Haslem plans to start rehab immediately.

Haslem says he hopes to return to the Heat lineup in March. There was fear when he got hurt that his season was over.

Along with Dwyane Wade, he's one of the two remaining Heat players from Miami's 2006 NBA championship team.

Timberwolves center Milicic out with hip injury

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Minnesota Timberwolves starting center Darko Milicic has a strained left hip flexor that will keep him out of the remainder of Monday night's game at New Orleans.

Milicic, who came in averaging 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds, played only 4 minutes before coming out with the injury and team officials say he will not return for the second half.

His absence did not immediately hurt the Timberwolves. He was replaced by Nikola Pekovic, who had eight points and three rebounds in the first half to help Minnesota build a 60-46 halftime lead.

Hawks' Horford misses second straight game

ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Hawks are without All-Star center Al Horford for Tuesday night's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Horford is missing his second straight game with a bruised back, and Zaza Pachulia is the fill-in starter. Horford hurt his back in a fall on Friday night after a flagrant foul by the Clippers' Blake Griffin.

Coach Larry Drew says Horford's back was still sore when he tried to join the team's shooting practice on Tuesday. Drew says it was the smart decision to give Horford another day off because the team doesn't play again until Saturday against Charlotte.

Horford is averaging 16.2 points and 9.9 rebounds and has started all 48 games he has played this season.

Nuggets' Billups day-to-day with knee injury

DENVER (AP) -- An MRI on Denver Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups' strained left knee revealed no serious damage Monday and he's listed as day-to-day.

Billups was injured early in the first half of Denver's game against Houston on Monday night and he didn't return to the court. He said he had no idea how he got hurt, only that it was a non-contact injury.

The Nuggets lost 108-103 despite 19 points from Ty Lawson, who replaced Billups and was forced to play 34 minutes despite a strained left knee that had kept him out of a game over the weekend.

Billups' availability for Wednesday night's game against Golden State could be a game-time decision. If he can't play, Lawson will likely split time with Anthony Carter at the point.

The Pistons did expect guard Rodney Stuckey back Tuesday after missing five games with a right shoulder injury, although he did not start.

San Antonio expected Matt Bonner back after he missed 10 games with a right knee injury.

Okur missed the first 26 games of the season while recovering from a ruptured Achilles' tendon. He has appeared in just 13 games this season.

Reserve center Francisco Elson will not play Wednesday night against the Chicago Bulls because of inflammation in his left knee.

Pierce, Shaq miss practice for Celtics

WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) -- Paul Pierce is home sick. Shaq is out with a sore Achilles' tendon.

A day before their rematch with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Boston Celtics were down to 10 healthy players in practice. Semih Erden also sat out with a strained leg muscle.

On the bright side, Delonte West participated in his first full-contact practice since he broke his right wrist Nov. 24 against New Jersey.

Rivers said he expects Pierce to play Thursday but not O'Neal or Erden. It's the second rematch of last season's NBA finals. The Celtics, who lost the series in seven games, won 109-96 Jan. 30 at Staples Center.

Rivers cautioned his players to use good judgment so that West's right wrist wouldn't be hit.

Pierce plans MRI on foot after poor shooting game

BOSTON (AP) -- Paul Pierce plans to have an MRI on his left foot Monday after the second worst shooting game of his career.

Pierce missed all 10 of his shots and scored one point in the Boston Celtics' 85-82 win over the Miami Heat on Sunday.

"I'm just battling a couple of minor injuries to my hand and my foot," he said. "So I think that really explains my tentativeness and my off shooting today."

Pierce said he sprained his right shooting hand in practice Saturday then was hit on it Sunday.

"With me playing the way I did and coming up with the win, that's big for us," he said.

His poor performance against the Heat was the first time in 1,038 games with the Celtics in the regular season and playoffs when he played more than 25 minutes and missed at least 10 shots. On March 2, 1999, Pierce went 0-for-11 from the field in 25 minutes and finished with two points. On Sunday, he played 39 minutes, 35 seconds.

It was the fourth game in which he didn't score a field goal. The last time was Dec. 13, 2000, when he went 0 for 7 with nine points in 31 minutes against the Chicago Bulls.

The injuries are the latest in a string of health problems for the Celtics. Swingman Marquis Daniels is out indefinitely after bruising his spine during a 91-80 win over Orlando on Feb. 6. Backup guard Nate Robinson bruised his right knee in a 92-86 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night and played just 4:45 on Sunday.

The Celtics also are without three big men. Shaquille O'Neal missed his fifth straight game with a leg injury, Jermaine O'Neal is expected to be out until early April after arthroscopic knee surgery and Semih Erden missed his third game with a strained leg muscle.

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Wizards forward Josh Howard is active for Washington's game against Cleveland after being out since Jan. 5 with a sore left knee.

Rashard Lewis is out for the second straight game due to a sore right knee. He didn't play in Saturday night's 118-94 loss to San Antonio.

Saunders said forward Al Thornton, who missed the the last two games with a dislocated right middle finger, is on the active list for the game against Cleveland.

Washington has an 0-25 road record and is looking for its first win away from home against the Cavaliers, who snapped an NBA-record 26-game losing streak by beating the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night.
