it was reported today that Scheyer asked his agent to contact Maccabi cause he wants to sign...but I guess Maccabi is in no hurry
IMO if Maccabi won't sign Scheyer it would be a huge mistake

Scheyer is 23
Penney can't do anything but shoot 3s
Scheyer can play PG and SG very well,and..he has balls
anyone who followed Duke lasy season can understand why Scheyer is WAY better then Penney
PLUS-Scheyer is Jewish..

Penney did so well this summer because his like the Jordan of New Zealand and he can do whatever he wants..
he already played for Maccabi..he's an OK player..no more
Scheyer is Jewish so he won't be considered as a foreigner
and he can shoot and pass the ball exceptionally well..
we don't need Penney..he's 30..and again..can't do anything but shoot 3s..we already have 2 players who can do that very very well(Blu and Pnini)
they're talking about 2 players right now..C and SG..if we can bring an Israeli player and a foreign player..obviously that's much better then 2 foreigners

Judging from his performance for New Zealand this year, you're not entirely right.
He isn't just a pure shooter, Penney is a pure scorer, and a very good one.
Still, I'd prefer Scheyer

like I said..New-Zealand and europeans clubs are very different.
his like..what Anderson was to Maccabi last year..he can do whatever the hell he wants...
no european club would give him the same freedom..
we know him from Maccabi..yes he can shoot 3s from time to time but that's it..like I said..he's an OK player.
but Scheyer is probably long-term while Penney is a one-year contract.
next year..probably Perkins or Pargo won't continue so Scheyer will get a bigger role as PG and Halperin will return to be Maccabi's main SG..
it would be a mistake to give up the opportunity to sign Scheyer just so we can sign a player who clearly wasn't our first choice while Scheyer was on Maccabi's mind since May

I don't want to get in on this but you are also forgetting that Penney is a leader and was the team captain of the Tall Blacks.
He was the one guiding his team during most of the games and his experience imo would definitely benefit Maccabi more this season.
Penney also wasn't just shooting 3's. In the World Championships he shot 55% from 2 PT range (26/47 FG)
Off course if you are looking for the long run then yes sure (as you mentioned), Scheyer would probably be the better player for the team.

What I remember from Penney in Zalgiris Kaunas, he was a good shooter... But his defense was.... absolutely zero. His defense is the same as the defense of a small bush - you just have to go around him...

Macabi has two of the most experienced players around europe on this position (Burstein & Sharp). No need for a guy like Penney. Scheyer will fit perfectly.
