MAHRAM 1 - ZOB AHAN 0 : It's the result after first round of Iran Basketball Superleague 2008-2009. First game just finished some minutes ago in Esfahan which is ZobAhan home. At the first of the game, ZobAhan was doing great and the score was 24-17 for ZobAhan in 1st Quarter. Mahram players did better in 2nd quarter and Changed the score to 39-38 for ZobAhan in HalfTime. Again ZobAhan Started Second half better and by great performance of Mike Jones, the Score was 63-58 for ZobAhan in 3rd Quarter but Mahram didn't want to lose the game, so the score was 87-83 for ZobAhan in last seconds and two free throws for Mehdi Kamrani (181-G-82) who was the best player of Mahram in this game. After a great Time Out by Mustafa Hashemi for Mahram and great decision for last seconds, Kamrani made both free throws and in just 10 seconds to finish, Aidin Kabir had a steel on Mike Jones and Jones made a foul on Mehdi Kamrani and two made free throws again and score was 87-87 at the end of 4th quarter and Mike Jones had 5 fouls too.

Mahram started Over Time better than ZobAhan but again at the last seconds ZobAhan made two free throws and score was 98-98 again.

In the seconds over time , Mahram did really better and won the game on 106-113 and Won the Most Interesting Game in Iran in recent years. Now the Score is 1-0 for Mahram and the second game will be in Tehran on monday.

I am agree with the writer, this match was the The Most Interesting Game in Iran in recent years !!!

Jones played very well in the second half (5/5 from 3pts line in last qtr) but he did a deadly mistake in last 10 sec ! he lost the ball and even he did his 5th foul at that time !

no doubt, Mehdi Palang was man of the match ! but I am more impressed by Mohammad Reza Akbari, He improved a lot this year over the season !

I think you means Zob Ahan, Amjad played some limited minutes but Salmani didn't play.

sorry ! no stats as usual :( I can say my view about him

as i saw, Nasajpour is their third point guard behind Aren and Bahrean. (also Mike Jones can play as a PG) I still didn't see anything special in him :D I know he had some good matches (which I didn't see)

he had an average performance in semifinals against Saba.and in the first final, he played some minutes in 2nd (or 3rd) quarter with 0pts and maybe 1 steal. but Kamrani completely ruined him , if i am not wrong he played some seconds in the second OT when Aren and Jones were out .

hm.. strange, he seem very dominating PG at Canadian's NCAA :D

so sorry for Zob Ahan ! they didn't deserve to lose 2-0 ! Mike Jones did a crucial mistake in the first match and today he had a bad day !

and the cup remains in Tehran

Mohammad Amjad played around 15 mins and IMO he had an almost good day despite Zob had a very bad day in general ! Amjad got 7 or 9 pts.
also Emad Salmani played 2 or 3 minutes and missed two 3pts shots.

despite all financial problems, Saba had a very good roster and they finished first in the regular season but their move to Qazvin was wrong and they lost two semifinal matches at their new home !

they beat Zob Ahan in Esfahan and in the second match they were one free throw away from winning but Jackson Vroman missed it ! also Petrochimi was one free throw away from winning the third match against Mahram but Madison missed it !
 
what I am interested about is that the Iranian Superleague has a so long history,I always thought Iranian was not strong before ehaddie emerged,and didn't have a basketball tradition like Lebanon and Philippine..

Iran has always been a good in bball but since the last 4 years their NT and league has improved dramatically imo. I think this is mainly cuz the Iranian Federation has decided to pay more attention to this sport and bringing good foreigners to the league has helped alot. And now with Haddadi in the NBA I think bball will continue improving in Iran just like what happened in China after Yao Ming joined the NBA.

Iranian national basketball league has a long history , it started 35 years ago but it stopped early because of 1979 Islamic Revolution and one year after revolution Saddam (who backed by the world powers and most of Arabic countries) attacked Iran and started the Iran-Iraq War , this 8 years war stopped EVERYTHING. the league started again 2 or 3 years after the war.

despite all problems we had, We have never been a bad team in Asia ! Iran reached Asian Champs semifinal at 1993 Jakarta, at 1994 Asian Games we lost to the STRONG philippines by only 3pts ! at 1998 Asian Games, we lost to Taiwan at overtime (we led by 3 pts in last 5 secs) and to Bronze medalist Kazakhstan by only 6. we had 2 or 3 very bad years because of our weak federation but the head of IRIBF changed after our terrible performance at the 2002 west asian games. and the current federation is far better.

* who is ehaddie ????? his name is Hamed E. Haddadi !

China's CBA "professional" league has only 14 years history...
Iran has 20..
Lebanon and Phillipine should have more,so does Korea...

Though if you look at it in other way,CBA has developed rather quickly...

The Lebanese basketball was re-started in 1992-93,there was no organized basketball btw 1975 and 1990 due to the civil war.
The Lebanese basketball is very new! our first participation in Asia for the NTs started in 1999 !!! and for clubs 1997 !!
