I am hoping the last veteran Papaloukas will not announce his retirement, too.

Now, I am very curious to see the final roster this year!

Well if Papaloukas goes too we can forget about competing for a medal IMO.

What are his reasons?

Give that there's too little time between the end of the championship and the beginning of the training camp and having played the all the tournaments in the past years he wants to take the summer off, to reload his batteries. So much for the official version...

...the question is, if this is the real version, why didn't he announce this before the call-up for the training camp? I'm pretty sure that there's more behind it. He's the president of the players union PSAK, in which Papadopoulos and Kakiouzis are heavily involved as well, and would've been the next one on "the list" most likely. He's aware of his small chances making the team this year therfore most likely, even moreso as he didn't play a good season.

Yeah I was thinking about that and it might be a good idea to bring Tsaldaris along.

I'm disappointed by Tsaldaris 2nd half of the season. I don't think that he's the shooter we were all looking for, not on that level. And neither Tsaldaris, nor another candidate for that spot has much experience on such a level, which won't make things easier for the team. I'd take Perperoglou, he offered some shooting solutions for PAO in the greek playoffs, and he also would be a solution for the SF position, where Greece also doesn't have much depth. Of course he's unexperienced as well though...

EDIT: Arkadios was faster than me :p

Official reason is the need for a rest. I guess he was dead emat from averaging 5 mpg in PAO :)

But I have this weird suspicion that him being the Players' Union President, and therefore talking against the Basketball Federation, played the primary role...

I guess Tsaldaris is closer to earning a spot in the NT now...

So I'm updating my list:

Definitely in:

Diamantides
Papaloukas
Spanoulis
Zisis
Vassilopoulos
Tsartsaris
Fotsis
Bouroussis
Big Sofo

Definitely out:

Xanthopoulos
Kalambokis
Glyniadakis

Tsaldaris, Perperoglou, Pelekanos, Pridezis, Vouyoukas and Koufos for the remaining 3 spots...

Sorry to disappoint you, but there won't be any medals handed out in the pre-Olympic tournament...

I meant at the Olympics. Greece will qualify.

PG Diamantidis/Papaloukas
SG Spanoulis/Zisis
SF Vasilopoulos/Perperoglou
PF Fotsis/Tsartsaris
C Sofoklis/Bourousis/Koufos

Looks like there's a spot open for Tsaldaris to me. Depends probably on Printezis or Tsaldaris.

If you say so... after all you are the one reading books about ancient Greek prophecies right? So you must know...

While you are dreaming about Olympic medals I'm wondering how in the bloody hell Greek front line will face Smodis and Nesterovic... in both sides of the court...

Perhaps Giannakis wants to speed up the game and let the guards run? Ever occur to you?

At least we will not be forced to see how Papadopoulos fails fronting Nesterovic in defense again.

Well I would like to think from the "other hand". So, I'm wondering how in the "bloody hell" ANY frontline will face Sofo, Tsartsaris, Bourousis and Koufos, in both sides of the court... ;)

Well...Sofo is realy dangerous for about 15 minutes...if he could play about 30 than i would agree with you. Now, your front line is pretty solid but nothing more realy, while Bourousis is unstable and Koufos is a big question.

Actually it may be the most talented front line other than US. Too bad it's also the most unproven and likely to struggle among top level teams.

have a little faith in Otto, he didn't let us down in 2004 :)

Yes, that's what I thought as well. He could have declared his retirement way before so I agree with you, it surely must be something else.

Arkadios you are way too pessimistic man. The big issue is Sofo and Koufos. If they play as expected Greece will qualify. If they don't Greece will still qualify. Now once Greece qualifies the question will be how they play.

It's tough to medal with them and Bourousis being such question marks but then again these are very talented players that are just young. You never know they might have a couple of good games in them each.

You are basically telling us that the whole Greece NT depends on two guys from which one can play 12 mpg tops and the other one is not even sure if he will even attend the training camp from the beginning, or if he even makes the squad and IF he does he will not be getting more more than 10 mpg?

OK, in that case, yes, I am pessimistic...

No I'm saying no such thing. I will end this now because you are starting like KWSN. It's like you are not speaking the same language.

Please accept my devout apology. It is more than evident that studying English for almost 6 years is just not enough to comprehend an American redneck.

Now we are brothers :D

after Dikoudis departure its time for Greece to bring some fresh newbies in the team.Koufos,Printezis are good additions and i dont mind to see them replacing those who left.Afterall PAP and Dikoudis didnt have the best year so i dont mind see them out.

This Greek team looks faster than the one of the last tournaments. It's also a better shooting team. Perperoglou and Sofo are better shooters than Dikoudis/Papadopoulos.

Fotsis ofcourse is also better than Pelekanos. Dikoudis was strong though.

Thank you for a normal response. Arkadios and KWSN have gotten really rude lately.

Koufos won't have any problem with the drafts?

I don't think so. I think the NBA Draft is June 25th or something like that.
