Hope Ateneo loses this season

Hope Ateneo loses this season

They have all the rookies that should be playing in the RP youth team..I don't know if it's their decision not to play or the school won't let them play because Franz Pumaren might scout them out..guys like Buenafe and Salva are shoe ins for the RPYT.On a lighter side, I hope the RPYT could get to play with other youth teams in Europe or South America,I don't care if they get beat up I just want them to get the experience of playing with real foreign competitors.

Well, talent will overwhelm the squad. Like the before AdMU-laden Magnolia Beveage Masters, AdMU might have a problem on putting all players in the floor.

yeah...too much stars...role players win games! :D

My Idea of the RPYT's scoring

My Idea of the RPYT's scoring

Having 4 or 5 scorers on the team wouldn't hurt 'em at all, they just have to spread the points so the opposition will just keep on guessing.Having a main man would be very predictable..My Idea is having atleast 3 guys score 20 or even 30 points while the others are just right with double digits..a point guard must know his jobe by spreading the points thru his assists. You may put it like this..the point guard will have atleast more than 10 points then the 2 guard will have atleast 20 and so is the small forward..the 4 and 5 will have their fair share by points thru put backs and low post plays..It would also help if you have 2 or 3 of your bench players score double digits.(3 players in double doubles would be great)

Well, yes. It's really ideal to have a lot of players scoring in double figures and of course, there'd be no main man in a National team since everybody's expected to pour in points. What the squad needs is a a go-to guy when the game's really tight. I mean, it could be a different player in every game but that player should be ready to be the role player down the stretch.

Just a thought, if we did question Chot Reyes being both head coaches of Team Philippines and Talk N text would that also apply to Franz Pumaren due to conflict of interest ?

Would it be proper for both coaches to take a leave of absence and concentrate on just one team at a time ?

Blue Chip rookies. The "Chips Ahoy! Kids":D

Expect them to make waves in 2 years time together with Fil-Am Jason Escueta:confused:

Chot Reyes took a leave of absence when he coached for the RP Team, thus being replaced by Coach Siot Tanquincen. Coach Franz could coach for the RP Youth Team and DLSU as well since the SEABA tourney would take place on May. If we pulled through with the said tourney, I'm sure Coach Franz would be willing to give Coach Jack Santiago (if he won't come with Coach Franz) or even a return from Coach Gee Abanilla to take care of the defending champs.

Since Nico Salva, Justin Chua and Ryan Buenafe are your "Chips Ahoy! Kids", I think they'd enjoy a glass of milk and some cookies before games because they won't get a lot of playing time, or if they do, they have to share it with the veterans of the squad. So, gobble up kids!

Literally they still have "milk on their lips".:D

They should be better off representing the youth team and gain lots of experience from there that could be useful in their collegiate careers.

Noosa scrapes past RP Youth, 83-76

MANILA, Philippines -- Noosa Shoes blew a double-digit cushion in the final period, before holding on to an 83-76 triumph against a reinforced Nokia Philippine Youth Team in the Philippine Basketball League Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

The under-18 squad rallied behind new recruit Norbert Torres, Gabriel Banal, and Joel De Guzman to trim a 25-point gap, 74-49, at the end of the third period to just nine points, 83-74, in the last 59.1 seconds.

Torres, a hefty 6-foot-7 center, made an instant impact with 17 points just a week after arriving from Toronto, Canada.

A recruit from Mother Teresa High School, Torres completed his all-around game with nine rebounds, three steals, and even accounted for three of the team's six blocks.
The youth team -- training for the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Championship for Junior Men on May 1 -- outscored the Shoe Stars, 27-9, in the fourth quarter.

With the victory, the Shoe Stars boosted their quarterfinal bid with a 6-7 record.

Andrian Celada paced the Shoe Stars with 12 points built on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting clip.

The scores:

NOOSA SHOES 83 -- Celada 12, Serios 11, Robles 11, Javier 9, Vizcarra 8, Agustin 6, Garrido 6, Burtscher 5, Mangahas 5, Dela Peña 4, Nocom 4, Evangelista 2, Pradas 0.

NOKIA RP YOUTH 76 -- Torres 17, De Guzman 14, Banal 10, Garcia 8, Golla 7, Marata 7, Mendoza 5, Tolentino 4, Sangalang 2, Manguera 2, Teng 0, Terso 0.

Quarters: 23-7, 46-26, 74-49, 83-76

Thats great that Norbert was able to make a big contribution in such little time

He was also an impact player when they faced off against Letran in the Nike Summer League.

Justin Chua did not reach the cut-off age. He isn't qualified to play for the team according to Franz Pumaren. Buenafe and Salva, on the other hand, chose not to play for the team. By the way, Buenafe injured his ankle last week and Salva is down with chicken pox.

Contrary to what Alex07 said, that's not ALL the players who were supposed to play for the youth team. Being an Atenean, you might call me biased, but let's face it: These are only two players who were subtracted from the team. Ateneo has four rookies coming in this season, and one isn't even a Filipino. In fact, the captain of this youth team is from Ateneo HS.

Instead of kicking and screaming about how Ateneo kept the good players to itself, I'd like to commend the coaching staff for assembling such a strong team. Norbert Torres seems to be an excellent find. I do hope he is really 6'7", though. Two weeks ago, he was 6'6" and Kyle Pascual was 6'5", and the following week, the media added an additional inch each to their heights. What gives?

The mere fact that Torres was able to contribute right away is cause for guarded optimism. I haven't seen a youth team this strong in years. Torres could be a bigger version of Jervy Cruz. I haven't seen Pascual play here, but from all accounts, he seems to be the real thing. Plus there are at least four other players in the team 6'4" or taller. The team is taller, heftier, and more talented across the board. We'll steamroll through the competition in SEABA, and I'm sure we'll give the other teams a good fight in FIBA-Asia.

Is there any way to watch the games of RP youth? I checked Netvision and the RP youth games aren't on there. A friend of mine knows Norbert so I was interested to see the games. Thanks.
