    Final Standings 5-12

    I thought I would create a thread with the final placings of all the teams from 5-12 as there doesnt seem to be one on FIBA and try apply their rules on ranking.

    5 - Greece (3-2) - Preliminary Standing 3rd - Goal Avg - 1.11
    6 - Croatia (3-2) - Preliminary Standing 3rd - Goal Avg - 1.05
    7 - Australia (3-2) - Preliminary Standing 4th - Goal Avg - 1.13
    8 - China (2-3) - Preliminary Standing 4th - Goal Avg - 0.915
    9 - Russia (1-4) - Goal Avg - 0.953
    10 - Germany (1-4) Goal Avg - 0.846
    11 - Iran (0-5) Goal Avg - 0.696
    12 - Angola (0-5) Goal Avg - 0.673

    Does this seem right? Also do you think it is a fair ranking system or should teams play for their place?

        angola,s losing point difference seems better than iran i think they should be 11th

          No, not according to FIBA ranking system. Here if the teams are tied on win-loss record then placing in preliminary round comes next not goal average.


          Places 5 -8
          The 4 teams eliminated in the Quarter-Finals will form one group and shall be classified for the places 5-8 according to the following criteria:

          1. Win-loss record in their Preliminary Round group.
          2. If teams have the same win-loss record, the classification will be determined by the standings of the teams in their respective Preliminary Round group.
          3. If two teams have the same standings, the classification will be determined by the goal average (by division) taking into account the results of all games played in their respective group.

          The example of the determination of the final standings of 4 teams eliminated in the Quarter-Finals:

            No the higher the goal average the better. WHat is there is correct.
