Tedeschi got his ass whopped big time so he bailed.
I would be more then happy to buy him a train ticket to Ljubljana.
I don't think croatian basketball in the long run is losing anything in particular with this.
it just showed that the privately funded club isn't necessarily a recipe for success.
they missed out on having any kind of vision and it killed them.
so much money went down the drain.

The only difference is that Tedeschi is losing his money. Cibona and Olimpija are losing others people money. Socialism has ended, luckily.

I don’t believe this project will work, because they have forgotten that nothing between Croatia and Slovenia works. But there’s at least hope, Cibona on the other hand is dead and buried.

      • Some commentators are clearly in the dark, having no clue about what is really going on, relying on information coming from.....pao fans.
Yet like drskull and our friend from Denmark write with such certainty.

Rest assured. Oly is not going to....vanish from the Euroleague, nor any player or coach will lose any money from the team. I mean, would Blatt ( a legend coach ) keep working for such a club? No.

The club is indeed experiencing some financial difficulties, but balance will be restored.

Regarding the greek bball, we do not care about competing with dpg, enough is enough, if you think we are wrong, come, please, take our place. You will have fun games against dpg.

We wish you the best of luck.

Just Euroleague is fine for us.

haven't seen this reply earlier, sorry.
Cedevita wasn't funded only by Atlantic group.
they were the main sponsor but Cedevita was also getting money from the city of Zagreb budget.
the reason why they left the city and country is that they felt they didn't get enough.
both money and attention and everything else needed.
and about socialism ending. basketball in our region is pure example that it didn't.
take a look at Budučnost, C. Zvezda, Partizan.
of course my beloved Cibona as well.
          who are their main sponsors?
state owned companies and the cities they belong to.

I am trying my best to understand it, but not sure I do.

Cedevita has money, but no fans. They were patient with the fanbase, but Cibona rules in Zagreb and there has barely been any progress in that aspect the last decade.
Olimpija has fans, most of us on antidepressants though and supposedly lacks money for the ambitions of the fans and management.
With a merge they are trying to get the best out of both. However, both clubs have recently been a showcase of a dissastrous management. Olimpija's slovenian pool of players to feed off from, has never been as shallow. There are some decent youngsters, but all of them abroad, while there are basicaly no players in 20-25 y.o. range that could bring the club to the expected levels. Money can help there, but without some healthy native core, more money will be needed to achieve some results.

Fan support isn't to be taken for granted, additional millions might or might not help, from law perspective this merge is as weird as it can be, both leaderships of Cedevita and Olimpija have some notable fails recently and now they are trying to bypass that natural, organic growth with some fast spending, seeking immediate results. Not to mention reportedly sharlatan advisors and basketball-wise completely illiterate+numb media in both countries.
It could work, filling up Stožice means potentialy 300k€ every home game, would definately oil up things. But that's not something to be taken for granted, especially without working on changing the philosophy of the fanbase.

If Tedeschi would move to Split, they would worship him like semi-god. A lot of of Cro talent comes from Dalmatia anyway. They have a 12000 seated arena, athmosphere would be definately better than it ever will be in Ljubljana. I do not exactly get it...

Elaj, (for those that still remember him from the early years on this forum) had a really good point regarding this merge. What is than to prevent... f.e. Olympiakos (or some other club) simply moving to London for example? (apart from a bullet in the head for the man responsible). That's kind of a pandora box, that shouldn't be taken as lightly. Euroleague would dream this to become a common modus operandi, but that's just not how sports in europe work. And listening to some other sportsmen, they said the same thing.

            • Aggelopouloi brothers do not have money problems. The whole thing that caused these problems is that they were in trials against their own father.Actually the woman that "controls" their father. They have won all lawsuits now. They own the biggest steel industry in Greece which when the country recovers will boom again. They own Arcadia,a shipping company with bright future. They own the biggest industrial park in Switzerland.Pao fans like saras can dream all they want but Oly is and will be here, strong and competitive.Elliniko, the biggest investment in Greek history will begin now that the leftist government left and in that area the new arena will be built.Oly will play in A2 with a youngster team.We dont want to participate in the GreekLeague as long as it is controlled by Vasilakopoulos and DPG.The Greek A1 is dead without Oly.They will loose about half of the sponsors money and most teams will struggle even more. That's all.Have a nice summer.

              • If someone from the Greek community could enlighten me about what is the issue with Aggelopouloi and their father I would be grateful.

I read this: Aggelopoulos press release which contradicts what berry said before about the brothers winning all the lawsuits.

In particular, my question would be why do they want more control over the companies while dragging their father through the mud like this and in addition, how do us -the common fans- actually know about the dad's mental condition.
Also, is the source of the money problems only the fact that they didn't have access to capital due to their legal issues? Does this mean that if they win and gain control over the companies, there won't be any "Printezis incidents"?

                Thanks in advance.
(This is not trolling, this is an honest post.)

                • Such an effort from dpg's minions in this forum to convince ( themselves mainly and some rather easy to persuade fans of other teams-I mean, he who believes....saras, must have issues of some kind ) us that Oly is in ruins , such a waste...

The Finance Panel has rendered its decision on the proceeding that was opened against Olympiacos Piraeus last May regarding the consideration of overdue payables.

On May 27, the Euroleague Basketball Management Control Commission (MCC) referred to the Finance Panel the opening of an adjudicatory proceeding against Olympiacos Piraeus which resulted in the Financial Panel acknowledging the existence of overdue payables.

The MCC has been monitoring the fulfilment of settlement agreements with the players, and certified that the overdue payables that originated the opening of the proceeding have been settled.
