TULSA, Okla. — Marshall grabbed a lead at halftime, but Tulsa used a 16-0 run in the middle of the second half to earn a 80-64 win over the Thundering Herd in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA men’s basketball tournament at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.

The Herd led by as many as nine in the second half, but the offense went cold in the middle of the half and the homestanding Golden Hurricane took full advantage. Marshall led 58-53 following a basket by Antonio Haymon, but Tyler Wilkerson headed to the bench after picking up his fourth foul with 10:34 left, and the Herd struggled on both ends without him in the game.

Tulsa’s Jerome Jordan asserted his presence underneath during the 16-0 run and the Herd failed to find anyone to step up on the offensive end. Marshall had just two field goals in the last 12 minutes of the contest and was outscored 27-6 during the span. Wilkerson led Marshall (23-9) with 16 points while Hassan Whiteside had 14 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks.

The Herd led 38-33 heading to the locker room after Antonio Haymon hit a runner at the halftime buzzer, but could not find its range in the second half, connecting on just 33 percent of its shots as the game slipped away.

Jordan led five Tulsa players in double-figures with 21 points and 12 rebounds. ben Uzoh scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half while Justin Hurtt netted 15. Donte Medder and Steven idlet had 11 and 10 respectively. Check back to http://www.herald-dispatch.com for updates.

(Lutz scores 1 point on 6 attempts.. Wow! Hired gun from Purdue.)
What's your beef with both Lutz and Parks? Nakakalalake ka na, ah.

At least Lutz made the C-USA tournament. Did Kazemi and Rice even get in?

it is already beyond us .... recommendations had been made but from all indications they would stick with present personnel and only a naturalized player and Chris Lutz that are going to be added.

As I said before, we could want to have our preferred players to be part of the team but it's the call of Rajko, Noli and Frankie .... and we have to trust that they know what they are doing.

I hope PBA teams would chase Banchero. If he plays outside like in Italy, we would lose a big fish.

Good job Ray! You only prove that scoring is not really that important and hustle will be #1! In entering Div1 teams, you don't need to be a bigtime scorer because it will just come right away but hustle is not easy to do. It requires determination dedication and will which not everyone have. Congrats Ray! First step. Check!

Look who's talking. You said: "Hired gun from Purdue."

Are you implying that Marshall made an offer to Lutz that was worth more than the athletic scholarship and allowances that he was being given while he was still in Purdue? Isn't the cost of Lutz's scholarship and allowances worth his 9.1 ppg, 42.6% 3FG, 2 RPG, and 0.7 SPG, not to mention the veteran presence he provides in the backcourt?

If you want to tell us that Lutz choked in this game, go ahead and do so. It's your opinion and you have every right to speak out. I'm just wondering why you did not say it after that game after UCF where he scored 25 points on Michael Jordan's kid. Or that game against Rice, where he scored 20 points against your Arsalan Kazemi.

But get this: It is my opinion that Kazemi will not be getting the numbers he had in Rice had he signed with Marshall. In fact, he will just be the third man in the rotation. Kazemi is just getting those numbers because he is in the C-USA's weakest team. In fact, he will just be kissing Hassan Whiteside's @$$ for three more years.

So, who's the immature basketball analyst wannabe here?

I was looking at Ray's stats at Maxpreps just now. While he was not scoring that much during the regional tournament, he made up for it in other ways. For example, while he scored just 2 points against White Station, he did have 6 assists, 7 offensive rebounds, and 12 total rebounds. It wasn't as if his scoring was needed, though; Melrose won by 23. In the game before that, he had 2 assists, 5 offensive and 11 total rebounds on top of his 13-point output. In the final game, he had only 6 points, but had 6 rebounds and three steals. All the tournament games were blowouts, with four players in double digits in the game against Southwind, only Adonis Thomas and Chris Jones (42 points!) in double digits against White Station, and with Chris Jones scoring 32 against Jackson North Side with Thomas and Rucker scoring 18 each.

This only shows that while only a few plays were given to Parks, he had made the most of the playing time being the #4 or #3 offensive option, and those 6 assists show that he can play PG as well. And he was able to make the All-Region Team in only his first year with Melrose, while playing with and against kids who have been together for years.

Take note: Jones is a 5'9" shooting guard. He might be a scoring demon now, but is it any indication that he will be a good high-major pickup in college? Who's to argue with Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Memphis, and UTEP, all high-major schools knocking on the Parks family's door?

That, guys, is the way mature basketball analysis should be done. And yes, I'm looking at you, FARIDOON.

Looks like Lutz is on his way to Gilas. NCAA season is over. Let's not expect Marshall to play in March Madness.

Can't wait to see him disprove those lousy comments. His Fire should feed on it. I respect Toroman to make him as effective as possible and get the best out of him.

he's a university student right? so that means he still have to finish this school year, (most probably mid june / early july) for him to get back to RP and play ball there.

Gilas is a pool right? So even if he does not make it to the final 12, at least he should be included in the pool. If there will be team B, he should be included to it as well. I hope there is a true Team B and they would also play in FIBA sanctioned games so the fil-foreign players we eye or have will be technically restrained from playing for another country.

                            Just my 2 cents.

                              +100 points for you

It will also be a chance for them to be recognized as true Pinoys and Pinays.

It's like this ..."The more entries you have...the more chances of winning" hehehe

Just like in Chinese basketball pool, there are so many teams in their pool, I think they have Team A to Team Z hehehe

Well when his team needed most of his scoring and leadership in the 2nd half of their C-USA tournament against Tulsa, he choked. And by the way, 3 years from now Arsalan Kazemi the captain of the Iranian under-19 team who led the Iranian national team with 16.6PPG, 12.2RPG and 3 assists at the FIBA Under-19 World Championship 2009 in Auckland, New Zealand will follow Hamed Haddadi in the NBA.. And also Arsalan and Hassan Whiteside are former teammate in The Patterson School..
