NCAA guest teams allowed to win crown
06/03/2009
With three guest school teams allowed to vie for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship, a wide-open race is expected when the country’s oldest collegiate league unwraps its 85th season later this month.
Jose Marie Lacson, chairman of the NCAA Management Committee (Mancom), made the assessment in the weekly PSA Forum Tuesday at the Shakey’s U.N. Avenue branch, where he also mentioned the preparations being undertaken by this year’s host San Beda College.
The NCAA formally opens shop on June 27 at the Araneta Coliseum with the centerpiece event of basketball. Arellano University, Emilio Aguinaldo College and Angeles University Foundation are competing as guest teams and will comprise the 10-school field.
“Usually when you have guest teams, they are not allowed to compete for the championship. But we want them to be competitive. So the Mancom ruled that they too, can win the championship,” said the San Beda official.
Aside from basketball, the three schools are also required to compete in five of the league’s regular events, among them swimming, volleyball, football, track and field and cheerdance competition.LABAN KUNG LABAN! KAYA NATIN PILIPINAS!

You instead get the impression he is something of a headcase.

No wonder Norman Black made a last ditch effort in Las Vegas to take him away from Mendiola and convince him to enrol at Ateneo. Fortunately, the Dela Rosa family graciously declined the offer and honored their commitment to SBC.

Rome has been getting very positive feedback, but I'll reserve final judgement of him until I see him play against NCAA or UAAP opposition.
As for ADMU ..... they already stole Norman Penola from us, now he is again trying for Rome? Hell, how many blue-chips do they need in that school? They got Justin Chua, Nico Salva, Ryan Buenafe, JP Erram, Norman Penola, etc.
But that's one thing good for his school that Norman is doing, but Frankie Lim is not: Constantly try to attract blue-chip talents to his school. Frankie has a poor eye for talent, and an alarming lack of vision outside of a season or so from the current one. Norman, on the other hand, has been constantly been building the foundation that will support his team for years to come.

Not only did he get plenty of 1-on-1 tutorial from his dad, but he also got lots of on-the-job training by mixing it up with taller, bigger, stronger and quicker American players. Kahit 6'7 na egoy hindi inuurungan niyan.

LOL here's a quote from Rome De La Rosa from his facebook account.
"My heart is with the SAN BEDA RED LIONS!!! No switching up now and once im committed i don't change my mind."
looks like he got "ticked" (lack of a better term) from other schools trying to pry him away. notice san beda red lions typed in upper case letters and ended with three exclamation marks. if norman black or any other coach who tried to recruit him away from san beda doesnt understand that sentence, i dont know who will..

To all SBC alumnis out there, I urge you to do the same. There are many "sharks" orbiting the prized recruit.
By the way, I was pretty traumatized by that Norman Penola incident, LOL.

The Dela Rosas will arrive on 18 June early in the morning.
Ellison was already given the thumbsdown by Frankie Lim for reasons he can only understand. If you will look at the lineup of the Red Lions this year and those who will join the team next year (Kyle Pascual, Art dela Cruz, Dave Moralde, Jesmar Villahermosa and JP Mendoza), you'd notice that there will be only 1 SG next year, i.e., Garvo Lanete.
And guess what? Ellison is a natural SG who can also play PG if necessary. Frankie Lim says he needs a shooter. Ellison is a natural shooter who can shoot from anywhere. I just can't understand why Frankie picked Koga over Ellison.Last edited by shaqmonster; 06-04-2009, 06:10 AM.
