Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what i know the NBTC Is only for HS players right? Renz Apor already got his diploma last year but he's still on the list? (the picture below is uploaded on his fb account July 2023)

I think it's just based on age. It doesn't matter if you're in school.

Under 19 yrs old and of Filipino heritage is the requirement.
plus, he helped Batang Tiaong recently. itll be weird if he is playing in the tournament and he isnt eligible unless he did something illegal.

            Is it U19 or 19U? There's a difference. Teams participating are 19U.

Also, what is the basis of the ranking? Is it current ability or future potential? If it's future potential, I wonder if analysts are doing a deep dive into the prospect's upside and measurables. I'll go out on a limb and say that no one has measured wingspans, tested verticals or clocked laterals...and differentiated them by ages.

Either way, it's still a noteworthy tournament and a great venue to discover hidden talent.

Tbh I feel these rankings are just based on who the best players in high school are at the moment so current ability mostly. Jared Bahay is very good but doubtful he’d be Home if it came to potential

Last year’s (2023) NBTC, Batang Tiaong featured 19-year old Vhoris Marasigan. At the end or midway of the tournament he turned 20.

not 100%, someone else might be in a better position to clarify.

edit: TBC post makes it 19 and Under

I've seen several of these kids playing and I'm impressed.

I hope we could unearth some more, I've heard that aside from that Patton kid, their are a few or a handful of hafus that can be a potential U16 and U18 prospects both for boys and girls for the upcoming international sanctioned tournaments.

And this year batang tiaong's leader is current csb blazer Mowell Morales. So i guess another requirement is not enrolled in college

There are local players can be a potential for our future U16 team and most them will play for this coming MPBL U16 season like the 6'5 Prince Carino, 6'5 Gab Castro, 6'5 Boe Gelin, 6'4 Aaron Guinto,6'6 Tyler Reyes,6'3 Gelo Lumaque (all 14 years old kids) and 6'1 Kenji Moral only 15 years old and he play point guard

                              Sir Goks,

I've watch several games of those kids and some of them are still raw the last time I've seen them but as a keen observer there's indeed a lot of upsides on those kids maybe hooking up with a better skills trainer like coach Jeff Codera among others can make a difference moving forward.

that 6'1 Kenji kid is something, I hope his handlers teach him all the things he must learn as a PG.

imagine a collaboration between Jr MPBL and NBTC with the sponsorship of SBP aside from the PAC Sen. that would be huge as far as grassroot development are concern.

                                Sir Mets,

it seems that the daughter of Yves "Success" Dignadice will not make it on this edition because of conflict of school and that finals.

                                same with Ajani Jones?

I doubt if Braedon Gupilan Holt will also play for this edition even though a fellow IBners posted on a different thread(?) that the lad was here in PHI.
