Then ist just a bunch of allstarteams facing eachother. Thats nonsense and certainly not the right way to improve basketball in the Philippines or anywhere else.

One good result doesn't tell the whole story.

None of that was visible in todays match. New Zealand ate you alive and it looked way too easy very often.
As for guarding the 3, we can afford not to locally because 3-point shooting is nonexistent here, so we're not used to guarding shooters. Boxing out is also a foreign concept here, which is why PBA teams here give up so many offensive rebounds.

So far, only 4 PBA teams shoot above 30 (Converge and Blackwater), and only 2 shoot above 35% (MERALCO and Phoenix) In the UAAP, only two teams shot above 30% from 3. That's not exactly top-tier shooting. As for PBA, I looked up RealGM. Numbers pa lang 'yan. As for the closeouts, most teams half-ass it because it's either a brick or the shooter hesitates.
As for rebounding, best defensive rebounding team grabs only 68% of all defensive rebounds. Last tournament, it was 69%. That's low, no matter where you are. For this one, I don't use a ranking as my basis. I use a baseline number, which in this case is 72-75% for DRB%.
And the eye test is as useful as numbers.

There's a difference between Qatar hiring foreign nationals for their team and the Philippines getting pouring resources with finding the mythical "Filipino blood" among those outside the Philippines.
Qatar has a shortage of citizens interested in sports, let along basketball. They hire foreign nationals, but they also spens money to develop them
While the Philippines has a lot of manpower for that, be we are lazy to develop talent and just spend the money on heckling the parents/grandparents to get passport of anyone who has "Filipino blood" who were trained abroad instead of creating a solid grassroots program. Then we resent people who are not interested in joining the national team.
We are so obsessed with bloodlines, but many us do not entertain a form of jus soli citizenship and easier naturalization (non-congress) of people who have lived in the Philippines for a very long time and localized, but we obsess about people abroad, many of whom, have lost touch with the culture
