    • my mock draft 1.0

      1. Petron - Junemar Fajardo. no doubt he'll be the number 1 pick over all. SMB ABL did good job on fajardo at ABL. he can provide inside presence that PBB miss. They don't have post offense, with addition of fajardo will help it.

      2. Alaska - Cliff Hodge. a workhorse. can provide anything. need another help for thoss at front court. Baracael will slide at 3 and make Espinas a back up at 4. Alaska is loaded at guard position so with this pick can upgrade the front court.

      3. Petron - Aldrich Ramos. will certainly trade this player within SMC probably with B-Meg, additional big man for B-meg side or with rumor danny seigle's return to Petron might shift Ramos to barako bull side via trade.

      4. Meralco - Chris Tiu. Can provide steady presence at PG. they need a leadership at back court. Meralco needs a PG that can set plays for his team. Mercado can slide to SG. he'll be more suitable at 2 spot. he's a tweener guard. Ross will be relegated to off the bench role to provide energy coming off the bench.

      5. Barako Bull Energy - Calvin Abueva. well as we see in NCAA, abueva can do it all in terms of rebounding, scoring and dishing assist. Coach baculi is tough minded coach. IMO perfect coach to coach abueva. With Seigle's possible return to PBB and possible addition Ramos to BBE, can certainly help BEE franchise next season/

      6. BGK - Chris Ellis. when i see Chris Ellis is like the upgraded version of arwind santos with better ball handling. can play SF/PF for BGK. with the possible retirement of Menk, they need a young big man at their team. With this pick, the frontcourt of Maierhoffer and ellis will provide problems to other teams. They Have veterans Bigs like mamaril, kerby and hatfield to help them. It will be exciting to watch BGK next season.

      7. Rain Or Shine - Dave marcelo. As evident in game 5 when beau belga thrown out they don't have replacement for him. With Addition of Marcelo will certainly help it. Can provide Toughness and heft at front. He's perfect 4-5 man for coach yeng.

      8. BGK - Yousef Taha. Exclamation point! BGK needs to get young at front court. with this addition, Taha is perfect investment. Can provide post presence that only Kerby provides at times. with addition of Taha it will add another threat at post game for BGK.

      9. B-Meg - Vic Manuel. Scoring Machine in D-League/PBL. he's former MVP for nothing. can provide scoring at 3 spot for B-meg side. He'll share the 3 spot with Intal. Manuel will add depth at scoring for B-Meg side.

      10. Global Sports Batang Pier - Kelly Nabong. Can provide inside presence for this team. he can provide scoring, rebound and on defensive side. can certrainly help alongside with Al-Hussaini at frontcourt.

      2nd round

      11. Air 21 Express - JR Buensuceso. with coach pumaren's system, JR is perfect fit. They need an impact player on their team. JR can certainly provide that. It makes air21's game faster with his addition.

      12. Alaska Aces - Jason Deutchman. a good back up for Sonny Thoss.

      13. Barako Bull Energy - Alex Mallari. An upgraded version of Gabe Norwood. Fierce. alongside with potential draftee Abueva and Ramos, BEE will be tough to beat.

      14. Meralco Bolts - Ronald Pascual. A shooter. Meralco needs one more shooter and Pascual can provide that. Can provide scoring as well off the bench.

      15. PBB - Trade this pick..

      16. Global Sports Batang Pier - Keith Jensen. He'll be perfect partner for Sean Anthony. A good rebounder himself. Can score outside as well. it will be a good start for Romero Franchise with Jensen and Nabong.

      17. Rain Or Shine - Mark Jeffries. good pick for ROS if they got this guy. he'e very coachable and he's aggressive. Added banger for ROS team.

      18. BGK - AJ Mandani. Need another good back up to Cortez. JJ will soon announce his retirement anytime soon. He'll be a good pick

      19. B-Meg - JR Cawaling. Former gilas main stay. good back up to james yap. he'll compete minutes to other good players on his position.

      20. TNT - Jan Colina. Good replacement for Ali peek. Peek will soon announce retirement. Colina can take peek slot. Good back up to RDO or to Japeth Aguilar.
Philippine Malditas to FIFA Womens World Cup 2023

      • They're maybe two sides to Chis Tiu, one is the supposed "other qualities" that can help a team in different ways and the other one is the skills of Tiu where he'll be able to fit in well and address the needs of a team.

No way Tiu gets drafted this high since the projected #1 pick is a 7 footer. You don't pass up on this kind of talent. At all. (If somehow my San Miguel botches this pick, i am going to shift allegiance to the Air 21 Express...)
I agree. It will be foolish for Petron to draft Tiu this high. Fajardo has the bigger upside than Tiu.

With Trillo at the helm, i can't discount the possibility that they are going to do something stupid (something like drafting Tiu this early) but common sense says they have to pick the BPA here... and BPA is not Tiu.
BPA after Fajardo would be Ellis, Hodge, Abueva, Manuel, maybe Jensen, Ramos, Mallari. I think this team will need a franchise player that will elevate them to possible semis contenders and I don't see Tiu able to give them the firepower needed to do that.

This is where it gets interesting. Since SMB got the their prospect already why not throw a curveball and draft Tiu here? They could draft him then trade him to GIN or BMEG in the future? Maybe even hold on to Tiu if Toroman gets the head coach stint? Get Tiu for future NT reasons since Toroman will be there if it happens?
The perfect time to draft Tiu will be at this pick. And you're right if Toroman sometime in the future becomes the head coach Tiu will be a good fit for them -- he knows the system and his role wouldn't be too demanding because of the talent level that this team have.

If they want Tiu at this spot it wouldn't be too bad since they need some sort of stability in the Meralco backcourt-- plus of course, this team direly needs a face for their franchise.

Perfect for MVP too: The Younghusbands playing for Meralco in the local football league and now, Chris Tiu playing for Meralco in basketball.

How's that as your endorsers for a much-maligned product.
This is the team where the "other qualities" of Tiu will be of good use, endorsements as you mentioned and other business deals off court that can maybe benefit Meralco or even MVP.

But the skill level of Tiu will be tested here if Meralco picks him. I feel that this team will need a legitimate scorer rather than a "face" because Cardona is not getting any younger. I heard Gregorio covering one of the games I think in the finals and said that they will pick the BPA.

Barako selecting Tiu makes sense. I think this is where Tiu's skills can address the needs of the team playing pg/sg but we all know this franchise likes to sell their drafted players and looking maybe a conference or two away is Tiu a good value to them in terms of making a profit after trading him?

There is also Mallari who is another player that can play the pg/sg role for this team and could possibly be traded sometime in the future.

Makes sense also but I see an Abueva here as a better fit for the Kings. Playing style of Abueva would be fun to watch playing for the Kings.

I think they also have the 8th pick so they can draft Tiu and go for a big man like Ramos or Jensen.

Another team where Tiu's skills can be used effectively. Actually any player picked by Guiao is given a chance to showcase themselves because of the system of equal opportunity that they use so Tiu I think can easily fit here. It can also give Giuao another pg/sg on the floor and use Lee as a two.

But for me I would have preferred a Vic Manuel playing for ROS.

Pick someone else wag lang si Tiu or pass na lang! Kidding aside, I think BMEG needs a big man because Cone likes big men or maybe a taller pg guard/sg who can play the three like Mallari, or maybe go for a sf like Nabong or Pascual.

Best pick for BMEG is Aldrech Ramos, a big who can shoot, and I hope he is still available.

Maybe they'll need someone like Lassiter, defense/offense type of player. I don't know, is Nabong that kind of player?

Compared to Monfort? Abueva will be a cute teddy bear at the most.

          • Mods, you may want to merge this with the PBA Mock Draft thread since we'll be basically be talking about the same stuff here. (Or even merge and re-title to 2012 PBA Draft since it's coming soon anyway)

i think it's about the same...intangibles are what they bring to the table...hard work, mental and physical toughness, leadership, the will to win, the ability to make teammates better. both aren't the most skilled at their positions but are the most popular. oh and tebow has already guided his team to a playoff win over the vaunted steelers in just his first year as a starter...though he has since been traded. anyway, thing is even if they aren't the best players they are unlikely first rounders...

Due to a previous transactions, I guess the 12th and 13th pick in the second round belongs to Bmeg...with the depth of this draft, I can almost sure that we will have a 3rd round!

... And then he got traded to the Jets for peanuts. And while in New York, he gets relegated to a back-up/specialist role. Anyway, i do agree with you that the situation is a bit similar but i do believe Tiu brings more to the table than what Tebow gives his team. Basically because Tebow is a flawed quarterback (which will be his eventual demise, starting with losing a starter's job) compared to Tiu, who's an all-around good player both from the PG and SG spots.

well, despite the nay sayers i think tebow has what it takes to succeed and his stats back it up...his flaws are mechanical and correctable but what he gives are innate. same with tiu, he has his limitations but at the end of the day if they deliver the W's (or the money) then the limitations don't matter. actually i think i just gave tiu a compliment by comparing him to tim tebow. anyway, it's game 6 now...go ROS!!

                      • I'm actually inclined to comparing Chris Tiu with Jeremy Lin - perceived talent/potential, IQ, image, and background. Maybe he does a similar thing in the PBA?

Only difference is Tiu will actually be drafted.

Skills-wise i think it's a close comparison. With Tiu having a better defensive game...

                          • Seems the new team, global port, will get the 1st pick of the 2nd round, 11th overall....shopinas i believe got the same pick last draft...

                            Comment

                            • That's possible, BT. And it's unfortunate for Air 21 - they already lost their first round pick, which happens to be the top overall pick in a very rich and talented batch of rookies, they also move down one notch in the pecking order. The Express are lucky that the rookie batch is deep enough to snare a talented freshman but it would have been better for them to select someone at 11th instead of 12th. Likewise, Global Port may stand out to be a better team in terms of individual talent compared to the Express.

I expect a lot of movement though with Lito Alvarez (AAA) coming in once more. AAA will make sure that this team will be competitive but in the absence of any marketable player in their roster, he may have to give up draft picks in the future to snare competent players. Some of the most likely players being eyed by the Express would include Noy Baclao, Mark Cardona, Joseph Yeo, Rob Reyes, Jared Dillinger, Nino Canaleta, among others.

                              • Chris Tiu comparable to Jeremy Lin? I don't know. Someone here also compared him to Steve Nash before.

I think Lin has the better skill set than Tiu, he's more complete. Skills of Tiu is questionable. In Gilas he just wasn't that consistent - his shooting was inconsistent; as a pg he does not have enough experience and his dribbling is not the best; and I think his defense is a little bit overrated(you can't classify him as on-ball defensive player nor as an off-ball defensive player) and there were times where his defense was just not there. His passing and his court vision are his biggest strengths - Barako, Ros, and Petron are teams that I see that they can maximize his strengths maybe as a pg or a combo guard.
