USA Basketball Challenge 2010

China vs. Puerto Rico could be interesting, along with whoever plays France in the next game.

Is this what the tournament is called?

Again the arrogance starts if it is..Its like saying "Come try beat us, we are the best"

I really don't see that. The tournament is in the US, they invited teams, so "come and beat us" of course, just like if the tournament and in Lithuania and organised by Lithuanians. No arrogance whatsoever imo.

So the U.S. isn't allowed to have a tournament? Damn Americans and their good basketball team!

So I guess when another nation hosts a tourney it's "please beat us?"

Are you serious?

A "challenge" is a common word for a match or a tournament. There's the ATP CHALLENGER Tour in tennis, the World Football CHALLENGE in soccer, and the EuroCup CHALLENGE in basketball.

I think you're just perceiving arrogance here because you want to, and not because it's actually there.

I'm in complete disbelief that the chemical neurons in your brain would formulate such a thought, and then signal that thought from your brain to your fingers to communicate through the keyboard the revelation of your compete, total, and utter...I'll let people use their imagination :)

Yeh smart comment Fed you must be [Unnecessary: deleted] to a point that you actually think you make sense.

Look at all the other friendlies that occur around the world such as Akropolis Cup, Stankovic cup etc. But no, the Americans have to again market another Rocky movie, Apollo vs Drago fight in the usual hype.

You obviously forgot that there are other international teams participating and by the way this is titled it appears it is only for teams from the USA

Exactly, notice how any individual country is left out of the "title" implying that teams/participants are all equal. But no, the USA is not equal to anyone...is it?

I see where Lietuvis is coming from with the title of the tournament.

However, I don't think it was the Federation of USA to come off as being arrogant or disrespectful to other teams (not necessarily the case with their players). I think, like most things being done this year, they are trying to raise the popularity of international basketball. Naming the tournament "USA Basketball Challenge" is simply a way of getting people's attentions.

That said, I do think they should rename the tournament as it gives false impressions of USA basketball and how they view the world when it comes to international competition. Something like "USA Basketball Invitational" is a much more suitable title for every country involved.

Except that you conveniently ignored the EUROCup Challenge. I'm pretty sure Euro=Europe, so should I assume that Europe is better than everyone else because they like to name tournaments after themselves (does that logic even make any sense?).

The fact of the matter is, like most tournaments, the USA Basketball Challenge is named after the location of the event, much like in tennis with the Australian Open, the Qatar Open, the Brazil Open, the Barcelona Open, the Serbia Open etc... etc..

Again, your preconceptions are forcing you to see what you want to see, and not what's actually there. It's not USA basketball's fault that you manage find "arrogance" where there was none.

Note: There was already a USA Basketball Challenge in 2007. It was in Las Vegas and only featured American teams. Take that for what it's worth.

First off, I'm glad to be of service.

Secondly, True "rednecks" hate basketball and are intimidated by things that involve international discussions *and most don't know how to spell INTERNATIONAL* so clearly your description of me as a redneck is laughable.

Thirdly, somebody on here has to remind the uselessly ignorant among us how ridiculous they come off when they argue that tournament titles *titles, for god's sake!!!!* are a sign of "American arrogance." This display of childishness by trying to find the tiniest, most irrelevent points to criticize any and everything NBA/USA gets tiresome and is frankly, pathetic.
Hell, I don't care if the Euro bloc posters want to boo the US (I expect that), but at least boo us on shit that's not competely inane. This claim falls into the same silliness category as the "US players' dunks in Beijing were too fancy" which of course made them...you guessed it...arrogant.

I guess the Australian Open should be renamed the Everybody-in-the-world-who-is-a-professional-tennis-player-who-qualified-for-the-Australian Open, so as to not offend anybody.

"Challenge" is quite appropriate. These teams are all challengers that will fight -futilely- to dethrone current title holders Spain in the World Championships to be held this summer. Quite a challenge indeed...

Seriously you made me laugh hard now as I can see another American thinking that Europe is one country ROFL.
