FEU

ADU

toss up between UP & DLSU

UE
NU
UST

I'll take UP as the 4th team in the Final Four this year. They have Mike Silungan and a much-improved Magi Sison. Plus, that Saret kid might just be the point guard they needed after the Mike Gamboa experiment failed.

UE's frontline rotation is very thin. No one in the mold of a Pari Llagas, certainly no one like Espiritu. Paul Lee is reportedly down with a sprained foot and might not make it to the UAAP opening. James Martinez is back, but who knows if his outside game is.

NU has a lot of good recruits, but I feel that this is not yet their year. Maybe next year, when they have learned the system.

Adamson made heads turn in the pre-season, but I am not sure if it will mean anything in the UAAP. Manyara is raw defensively; tries to block all the shots that he can, and can be pushed out by smaller but stronger centers. If Roider Cabrera finds a way to be more consistent with his shooting, Adamson might just make it again for the first time since 2006.

DLSU still suffers from the lack of a true point guard. If LA Revilla makes it back to the lineup, well and good; otherwise, I can't see anyone taking charge. Webb might have to try to win games on his own. Ferdinand could be their main man down low, but I still see some inconsistency in his game.

UST won't get into the Final Four this year, I'm afraid. They lack rebounding, something they had in spades with Jervy Cruz and the platoon of tall wingmen they had the four seasons. They have neither this year. Looks like they will have to rely on Fortuna, Bautista, and Teng for offense. Chris Camus does not have the luxury of having Mirza helping him out on weak-side defense in the post tihs time around, though.

FEU is downright scary. They have two players with national team experience and big men who play multiple positions. I'm wondering, though, if RR Garcia has developed his PG game in the off-season. If he did, he might be an MVP contender in a year or so. Aldrech Ramos might be this year's MVP; he can contribute in so many ways.

UP, like I said, will be a contender. Their endgame smarts need to be developed, but the offensive talent is already there. Silungan can score, defend, and rebound. He will be among the leaders in stats. Woody Co is already a veteran. I'm keeping an eye on their frontcourt, though. Magi Sison has shown improvement due to his Smart Gilas stint, but who will substitute? Martin Pascual, out of Ateneo HS (who never played in the UAAP juniors)? Will Silungan be made to slide up to playing center? A Silungan-Co-Sison-Lopez-Martin Reyes starting lineup will be more than formidable.

Ateneo's frontline, at first glance, seems weaker compared to last year. However, Jumbo Escueta has the heft and talent to create for himself in the paint. JP Erram could very well be a much taller Baclao; he just needs to minimize his errors. Nico Salva plays like a Kramer/Intal hybrid -- he can get rebounds and make situations for himself. That Estrada kid out of Baste seems to be a project, but I trust coach Norman's judgment. The backcourt rotation seems steady as always -- Salamat and Monfort could be the best PG-SG tandem in the league, with Buenafe providing more firepower.

much improved? really? cant wait to see this improvement :P

Much improved compared to two years ago where he had no idea what to do. A skinny all height guy who cannot even rebound well. He has improved, but can he contribute knowing he plays 4 in Gilas and he plays 5 in UP.

i would say that FEU will be the strongest team to beat for season 73..

my F4 would be:
FEU:D:p
ADMU;)
AdU:cool:
NU:rolleyes:

The way I see it. I believe a lot of DLSU alumni are clamoring for Bader Malabes removal from the team. I used to go inboundpass.com. Mr. Tony Atayde a DLSU alumni has been criticizing Malabes and the other seniors like Barua and Mangahas. In a crucial game that DLSU needs to win. Mr. Atayde wrote in his column that Malabes should sit out this game. Well it happened. Malabes played only a few minutes in that game. That's why I am not surprised why he was not included in DLSU's lineup.

From which rock did you crawl out from? Malabes left DLSU right after the UAAP basketball season and returned home to Bahrain. He is now playing pro ball there. Mangahas and Barua followed suit out of Taft.

ayan ang tinatawag na huli sa balita. :D

trans: as much as i'd like to tell you to back-read these forums because you're half a year late with the news, watch this clip taken last January:

Malabes (aka Abdulla Jassim, his real Arab surname) is back in Bahrain playing professionally for Manama Club, his hometown team. wish he could've made shots like that for DLSU last year.

My Final Four Prediction:
FEU
DLSU
ADU
UP

UE, UST, ADMU will struggle and lose every other game while NU will improve but not enough to make it to the F4.

another bad news for UST fans! i have read that their star HS point guard Cedrick Labin-isa will be playing for another team. :) reports say he is headed to where his former teammate went. :) money matters again :)
