jason maybe 6'6 but i think he is mobile like baclao... and during their games in smart gilas i also see that he is just hesitant with his shots he needs more confidence... but i guess coach toroman can make him a back up PF like the one in Jordan who is really fast PF

awts. i dont know why there are people who is very high on jason ballesteros. the guy has already finish his 5 years stint in college but still he lacks many skills. he maybe a good weak side defender but if the offensive player took him 1 on 1 he is no match. I've seen him play during the exhibition games in the pba and i dont know why he was included in the training pool after all. very limited offensive moves, cant finish strong around the basket and you think he's mobile and your wrong because he is slow for his lean frame he just looks fast when he is running but when he is guarding an opponent who is driving to the basket he is eating their dust.

hmm... but why do he is included if hes not that talented?? and even sign sbp's contract

I have theories why Ballesteros was included:

* He's in just to add ceiling
* He will develop into a Hanamichi Sakuragi type of player. (Someone who has little or no knowledge of the basics in basketball but due to his time with the team, he slowly grows into a very competitive player).
* Another product of Toroman's special intuition towards a player. Remember how badly Coach Toroman wanted Ogie Menor to be included in the team even though for most of us he was just an average player.

He was included in the line-up because he is one of the awardee in the PSA for best collegiate players together with sam, rabeh, baclao, rico, chris and jayvee. he was awarded because of his stats in NCAA which is very misleading in a league where your have only 2 dominant big men in Sam and Sena. i think he averaged 10ppg, 9.8ppg, and about 3bpg. NCAA?

I agree when you look first to ogi's numbers he is typical star player but when you look on his attributes he is the best shooting guard in the amateurs this guy
"malakas" and he is talented a center strength trap in a guards body toroman and foreign coaches sees this talent and jayson ballesteros fits the bill for a role player in smart gilas less ego and will play 100% even with limited playing time "sabagay kakainin naman ni rabeh, slaughter at taft yun playing time"

Ogie Menor won the 2007 NCAA Finals MVP, and was one of the main contributors for SBC in their three-peat last year. In the PBL, Ogie was the top scorer for his team.

I would agree that Ogie has not had much success in terms of awards in the PBL, but I wouldn't call him an "average" player either.

Ogie is deadly in the open court, and in one-on-one drive in plays. He is bulky and strong, and yet is also very quick. Those kinds of attributes you only find in players like Solomon Mercado and Willie Miller.

average? do you mean he is worse than tiu, jazul, guevarra, and cawaling in terms of offense, defense, plus hustle?

Ballesteros is a legit 6'7".

Hey LCM, sorry to break it to you, but players are mostly shorter than what they usually say they are, no one would like to downsize themselves unless if theyre Kevin Garnett.

you can say Ballesteros is 6'7" but you can't say its Legit.

as for Rabeh, He is probably somewhere between 6'5" to 6'7" and could be probably be marketed as 6'7 or 6'8

I was dissappointed too when I learned that they padded their heights.

so that we wont go further off topic, what do you think should Rabeh improve first during the summer? I know we want him to improve in all areas of the game but what do you think is one aspect he needs to improve on?

i say passing. improve on it over the summer.

Plyometrics and timing on the shotblock.

become a much better defensive player.

yeah, i think he focuses more on offense because Coach norman is cheating. and his method is known as baclao. but there is no baclao in NT. i do hope Japeth joins and becomes a taller version of baclao for the NT.

fyi - after the UAAP Basketball season and if ever the SBP amends the questionable provisions of the contracts, Rabeh and Nonoy would be joining the SMART GILAS team.

Japeth wants to join the 2009 PBA Rookie Draft this August which is contrary to the desire of Noli to have the SMART GILAS team members forego joining the PBA until after the 2012 Olympics.

i hope they could make an exception with Japeth where he can join the PBA and Play for Smart Gilas as well. where can u find a full pinoy 6'10 young atlethic bball player. they should share this blessing. SBP should be flexible and not compete with PBA's big ego.

Rabeh I think is a legit 6'8".When you see him in person he's so big and tall.I have an uncle who was a former player of PCU Dolphins.he is a legit 6'4" w/o shoes and 6'5 1/2" w/ shoes.and based on what saw between their heights Rabeh is a legit 6'8".Rabeh is taller than Jason w/ about an inch.that's why i can say that he is a legit 6'7".those players who marketed their heights are ben wallace, dennis rodman, charles barkley.
