The New York Knicks Thread.

Speaking of Melo.... After the Cavs rejected their unsolicited offer of Melo for Kevin Love, word is they've informed the Clippers they'd trade them Melo without needing any of the Big 3 back. It makes perfect sense for these two teams to pull the trigger on a deal, honestly.

I bet Diamond Stone, maybe Wes Johnson, and some picks gets it done. Unless maybe another team gets involved or the Clippers are willing to part with Crawford.

Either way, it's pretty clear the honeymoon is over for Melo in New York.

Melo not on the eastern conference all-star reserves. Is this the decline of Melo?

Seems to me Paul George and Jabari Parker have taken his spot as the major ball-dominant combo forwards in the East, with Kyrie and John Wall replacing Wade as the major ball-dominant combo guards. Giannis, Butler, and even DeRozan are taking those spots now and changing things, and KP and Embiid will be in the future. Honestly I'd hate to be picking All-Star teams in the future. Some of the guys who get left off would start most years.

Phil Jackson is no longer with the Knicks. He gets a lot of shit but I don't think people honestly appreciate the way he completely changed the way New York builds teams. He brought in not just quality but big time contributing undrafted or unheralded free agents like Langston Galloway, Ron Baker, that PF frok UCLA I'm always forgetting, drafted Porzingis, brought in Courtney Lee, Lance Thomas, Quincy Acy, Kyle O'Quinn, Derrick Rose of course and others. Some of his moves were questionable but he is the only one who didn't kiss Melo's ass and his tenure is the only reason that franchise has a shot in hell post-Melo.

There has been considerable downside -such as Porzingis potentially being on the block. I mean are you serious?- but there is also a lot to appreciate.

I hope it's nothing serious for Kristaps. He needed help to go to the locker room. Can't put on weight on that left knee.

That's the risk you always have with these long guys like Embiid and Porzingis. Their limbs are always flailing every which way unless they're completely under control. Right there, he had to adjust due to tough defense and he came down hard and awkwardly on his foot in a way that affected his knee.

That Kanter acquisition is looking better and better huh

Porzingis dealt to Dallas. Knicks betting that they can land two studs this summer in free agency and also have a great shot at a top 3 pick in this year’s draft. Injury and attitude complains about Porzingis made it easier for Knicks to move on from the unicorn. Dream scenario for Knicks is winning the Zion lottery and signing Durant and whatever free agent sidekick he chooses to join him. Basketball would seriously be back in the Empire State if that happens for the first time since the Ewing years.

Still not sure, why would Durant miss on a chance to win a potential 4-peat with the warriors, just to play with Zion and 1 other superstar ...

The key part of your statement there is “with the Warriors”. His departure would seriously downgrade them and teaming him up with another superstar and young talent would make that team a contender. So he still has the opportunity to 4-peat. Especially in his case where he came in as a mercenary I don’t see him feeling like he owes them any allegiance.

Think about this scenario as well if the Knicks win the lottery they can deal the Zion pick for Anthony Davis and then Durant could theoretically be part of a better big 3 than he currently is at in Golden State.

It's way too soon to treat Zion as some sure case reahel deal, next super star. He is so big as a 18yo. I first want to see how his transition to NBA looks, can he avoid injuries and lift NBA season and does he have great working ethics, ability to stay in shape first before calling him a superstar :)

Who called him a superstar ? I didn’t. He’s the lock number one pick. And I would bet you the farm that if the Pelicans had the option of trading Anthony Davis for Zion and his potential that’s the number one deal of any offered that they would take.

Well, bad timing, but I just wanted to express my doubts because some already treat Zion as generational talent. Let's see if he's durable, he doesn't even look like a basketball player. There's just few as Barkley in the basketball history. The way Zion is build now, here's a good chance he will be chubby as soon as his mid-career knocks and probably a fat ass later on. How many true superstars fatasses NBA had? I know Barkley and Shaq, that's probably it.

Don’t forget Rick Mahorn who had the biggest ass out there. Just kidding. I don’t disagree.
I think Barkley is a got comp but not Shaq. Shaq became a fat ass later in his career, when he came into the league with Orlando his first 4 years there was nothing fat about him. He was an athletic freak.

I don't think that Zion is a superstar, yet. But I can imagine how he could become one. Static strenght is a very underestimated part of the game, with rebounding, penetrations, setting or passing screens and Zion will not be pushed around there. Am interested to see the transition as well.

@usagre yeah, you are probably right :)
I am wondering if the players are oppurtunistic enough, to look at it from the conference perspective... since it would be a lot easier to reach the NBA finals from the east than from the west atm. ...
