I was reading this article on ESPN about Kareem assesing Dwight Howards game, (read below), it really does make sense on why superior "athletically gifted players" like Lebron, Howard and in the Philippine context japeth are often criticised, to a certain extent I see the same citicicim heading torwards "physical specimens like Fajardo , Parks and maybe Kobe Paras in the future. People are going to say "if only I had their bodies / talent imagine what I could do". Going back to Japeth this kind of thinking is similar to the "look he can't do this, rather than what he can do" I hope we as fans have somehow learned our lesson , to wait and be patient on these guys that they will finally get it. rather than critisize them for not meeting expectations based on our timetable.
Don't worry guys Parks and Fajardo games will eventually come around as they did for Japeth and lebron I have no doubt about that.. Maybe not fast enought though for the demanding public

From ESPN
Abdul-Jabbar sees Howard's body a little like Michael Jordan sees LeBron's body. I imagine both thinking, essentially: "Imagine what I could do with that." The natural conclusion of that line of thinking is that Dwight and LeBron are disappointments, and when you look for evidence, it's on video.

He isn't doing what we want him to do. He's not perfect, even though his body is.

Also, it's very hard to both know what's wrong with something and declare it the best; it's just against human nature. But that doesn't mean it can't still be true. Usain Bolt can let up in the final 10 yards (horrible strategy!) and still be way faster than anybody else in the world. Annoying, but true.

And all that talk of shortcomings in regard to Howard, Bolt or James is also another way of saying they could be so much better.

Huh? I know this reply is WAY late but what are you saying about LeBron? He's a 4 time MVP, 2 time NBA champion/Finals MVP, and 2 time Olympic Gold medalist. He's been the best player in basketball for the better part of the last 5-7 years not because of his body, but because of his skills (shooting, post game, defense, passing) and how he's able to maximize his basketball IQ and play the game the right way. Where else can you find a perimeter player who averages 15 shots per game, shoots 60% from the field, 45% from 3 and close to 80% from the line all the while averaging 26 points 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Come on man.

I get the comparison. And maybe it was valid before... but now? I mean in the past two years LeBron should have put all this discussion away with how he has gotten better each and every year.

Anyway, back to topic. Sorry for this. Just found this ridiculous.

In Lebron's case it's past tense (pre 2012), people use to critisize him for what he could not do, (no rings, 4th quarter meltdown) , Note even Michael Jordan critisised Lebron for choking in the 4th quarter as Kareem pointed out. The point here is physical phenoms like Lebron , Howard , Bolt , and Japeth (for the Phiippine context) are often critisied for not meeting expectations or the timetable for success on the basis of "if only i had his body" I would do so much more.

My comment is no knock on Lebron ( who in my opinion based on what he is doing now is the most complete and efficient player I've seen in history)
