Sirs, If ever Jones suits up for our team, will he be able to play for the Asian Games? I'm not acquainted with our Constitution, especially that of the stipulations about Naturalization.:)

Naturalization process here in the country takes AT LEAST 10 months. So next year is the most likely time he could suit up, IF EVER he doesn't get better offers from abroad.

i have a legal theory that naturalization by means of legislative conferment may be legally done in as short a period as 6 weeks. all it takes is enough political will. naturalization given by the act of congress can be a case to case basis, and as such the formalities of previous cases cannot serve as a precedence to future conferments.

Filipino patriotism or German patriotism? :p joke joke joke!!! :D tigil na ako galit na saken si boss belowzero :o fave ko pa naman yan sanmiglyt belowzero!!! charap!

btt: any news on their next practice-team D opponent? :p

isip bata??? trans..good luck..

Well, I hope the people we will elect this coming May would be keen in supporting our quest for naturalization. :D

Everything seems to be consistent...Metallac beat Gilas by 10...in a recent game, Metallac beat Beograd by 14......On this game, Beograd beat Gilas by only 1 point....so maybe, as of now, Gilas and Beograd are just about equal..

Note that Metallac is in 3rd position now in Serbia's Division A while Beograd is in 4th position.

Great discussions everyone. I'm loving every piece of it.

I'm not all too familiar with Serbian teams but thanks to the info being feeded here, I've read some familiar prospects & once prospects for NBA teams. One thing is for sure though, Serbia is basketball country much like Lithuania, Spain, Italy or Greece. It has lots of tall, basketball talents, breeded at early ages through minor and major leagues. This is not the athletic USA, but within the heart of teams very familiar with FIBA play.

I'm not a fan of ranking teams based on win loss against each other, especially if its based on 1 game, an exhibition at that. But I respect the excitement of finding our place among these teams.

I believe our goal, as I've been reading from earlier statements, is to see our improvement vs the same teams we've played with in SGs previous Serbian visit. SG lost to Mettalac by 30+ previous visit, and recently we competed better, losing by 10. There's a positive there.

Secondly, I feel it urgent that SG progresses in performance from the 1st game till the last. We may have lost our 1st game, won the second, and lost a nailbiter in the 3rd. Nailbiters, win or lose, is progress in itself especially if its against a better team than the one we won earlier. It means we competed. Lets hope the progress continues despite the injuries.

Thirdly, lets not forget, that SG is against tall (lots of 7-0 in there) & hefty, skilled players, among the best in the world, while we are playing All Filipino, and it appears, SG is competetive. These are against players who play almost all year long in tough tournaments (unlike some of our Middle East counterparts who lack tournaments). Competition here is better than was in Australia. We should be proud of this team.

I look forward to the teams continuing improvement. Can't wait for Chris Lutz to contribute. Hopefully our big men will continue to improve and my bet, Dwayne Jones pans out great for this team.

based on his shoes, it seems to be Dylan. The boys are getting used to the Physicality of the International Game and is no longer intimidated.

I am convinced we'll get better results once we have a complete team and everyone is in-synch. Dylan is now getting back his game but Mac seems to be a little out of it at this time. Captain Chris is out with an injury.

I am pretty sure once Aldrech Ramos and Chris Lutz comes back then add Dewayne Jones, we are pretty much set.

thanks for the info

Smart Gilas Pilipinas update from Serbia

With reports from SBP's Bernie Atienza, Noli Eala, Mark Barroca, and Greg Slaughter:

BC Belgrade beat Smart Gilas 80-79 today with the Filipinos having a chance to upend the home team (that beat them by 2 points last year). A spate of costly turnovers did the visitors in. But according to Gilas co-captain Mark Barroca, some of the calls were really going the home team's way. "Struggle talaga," sa tawag at sa laro. Pero pang experience yan. Hindi naman pwede laging panalo."

"I think the jet lag got us in the first game. In the second loss, I think we can play better." explained center Greg Slaughter.

The Nationals got one of their injured players back in Aldrech Ramos. The only two players unavailable are Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Rey Guevarra. Al-Hussaini should be back in action by next month. As for Guevarra, it depends on his rehab from his ACL.

Yesterday, the Nationals survived a Superfund rally and won its second game 91-84. The Filipinos led practically all the way as they got the jump on the home side.

With the results of the two games, Smart Gilas fell to 1-2 on the road trip. They lost their initial assignment to Metallac SK.

since it would be a new bill, the naturalized citizenship via legislation could be made to fit to a specific person, this means the 10 months residency could be omitted and its possible that Jones could be declared a Filipino on time for the Asian Games. But everything would depend on the politicians as they might have difèrent priorities.

how is naturalization process done? do they debate in congress about that naturalization candidate?

Time will only tell....my impression right now is that Germany is not as good as Spain, Greece, US, Russia, Argentina....it may be as good only as Lebanon or Iran or if ever,,just slightly better....i dont think that Lebanon and Iran are unbeatable especially in two years time.....

how can you call a team with TWO NBA ALL-STARS just as good or 'slightly better' than lebanon or iran? do the names dirk nowitzki or chris kaman ring a bell? dirk's just 3 years removed from being the NBA MVP and im pretty sure both of them will still be around in 2 years

He's not giving enough credit to Germany. Nowitzki may be becoming older, but he's still as lethal as he was more so than before because his understanding of the game has increased with his age. Not to mention the fact that he keeps himself in superb shape and is one of basketball's best and most clutch players. Chris Kaman is another superb player who just became an All Star this year. They also have young guys like the up and coming Elias Harris from Gonzaga. To say that Germany is just slightly better than Lebanon and Iran is just kidding yourself.

In my opinion, the only team in Asia that can beat Germany is China and they need to have a healthy (and I mean healthy) Yao Ming to have a chance. China is still Asia's best as long as Yao plays and is healthy. He would destroy Haddadi in a match and I mean DESTROY Haddadi. Make no mistake though, Iran is Asia's best as long as Yao does not play with China. If Yao does play, no way in hell they're going to win.

Do you really believe the stuff you write there? :D:D Sounds like you haven't watched any basketball outside the Philippines or Asia for a very long time.

Aside from two current NBA allstars, a projected 1st round NBA draft pick and All-Westcoast conference member (Elias Harris), we have a large number of young and talented players following the footsteps of the older generation on our NT like Benzing, Pleiß, Schaffartzik, Staiger, Ohlbrecht or soon U18 standout Neumann, who's one of the best talents of his age in Europe.

Putting us on the same level as Lebanon and Iran is based on what - on Iran being Asian Champ, or because Lebanon has once beaten France? :D:D:D

Sure the Philippines may beat Germany one day, but yet they have a long way to go to get, where Germany already is for quite some time - and even if they did, winning one game doesn't mean, they would be on the same level, because its more likely still that they would rather loose 9 out of 10 (same goes for France and Lebanon of course).

Nothing wrong about being proud of Gilas or the Asian Champs or whatever, but statements like that just show, that you don't seem to be well informed about what's going on in the basketball world outside of Asia.

I may not be an expert here in Interbasket but indeed our national program in place it may not be enough for us to defeat the big names in the European circuit as of this moment. As you know Rome, as one of the greatest empires in the world, wasn't built in a day (or in 2 years like that guy says). It takes more than a dream (and or optimism) to fulfill such near impossible task.

Pardon me for being a realist, I don't like to destroy people's dreams but sometimes we go over board and doesn't have any proper backing with that statement.

skip the bu**shi* bsgermany

skip the bu**shi* bsgermany

germany will never, ever be a major contender in world basketball tournaments. basketball never attracted serious mass attraction in germany the way soccer and athletics have, and this sport is doomed. no european in his right mind can even imagine germany taking on spain in a championship finale.

consider this extremely simple fact bsgermany. there are only three young pinoy basketball players between 19-24 years old who stand 6'9" and taller, and Smart Gilas -- or any other local team -- will consider them to be good enough to play for any East Asian national team. that's 100 percent usage efficiency for you -- way beyond what Munchen industries can generate. If pinoys ever had the same physiological profile as Slavs in size, YOU won't even be thinking of germany as having a chance against the philippines.

i've visited the german forum, and it is a very boring forum. this is the greatest proof that germany will never be an important basketball nation in decades to come.

Quite an amusing post! :D:D We now have a fortune-teller among us, who can see the future, saying that Germany could never be a contender. Well, aside from doubting that you know what the future has in mind for German basketball, you also haven't done your homework either. We have won the bronze medal at the World Champs in 2002 where we beat Spain), won silver at the Euro Champs 2005 (where we by the way beat Spain in the Quarter final also), Gold back in 1993. ;) No need to say anything more right? :D
The rest of your comment is not worth any words anyway.

PS Maybe you should visit german speaking forums, since that is our native language in order to make a proper judgement.

This is the very reason why the German is here. Can a bully take on somebody his own size? of course not. He'll not be picking on Spaniards in the Spain thread nor the Argentinians in the Argentine thread, even the Chinese who even fared better than his motherland Germany in their thread , and CERTAINLY NOT the Americans.

OLYMPIC BASKETBALL STANDINGS
FINAL OVERALL OLYMPICS STANDINGS

Gold: USA
Silver: Spain
Bronze: Argentina
4) Lithuania
5) Greece (3-3)
6) Croatia (3-3)
7) Australia (3-3)
8) China (2-4)
9) Russia (1-4)
10) Germany (1-4)
11) Iran (0-5)
12) Angola (0-5)

All I read in his posts is to crow about his Germany's basketball prowess as compared to the Philippines, in guise of constructive criticisms. And I say he's pretty good in doing this for some reason, unfortunately some of us here still can't read between his lines.

You can post in this Philippine thread all you want, but we already have a better and more reliable source of info about Serbian Basketball, from a polite Serbian none other than sunoverHstreet.:)
