Guys, I heard last night that something tragic has happened - CJ Gile's son has died and CJ has gone back to the states. Can somebody please confirm this? :(

Alton Lister

for a while..I thought he was Eddie Murphy

Good:
1. Andy Barroca is regaining the swagger he had before the UAAP controversy.
2. Rabeh is getting into the system.
3. Casio is consistent.

Bad:
1. Ababou is still struggling. Not the same Ababou from the Champions Cup and UAAP.
2. Cawaling is the tallest wing player we have (correct me if Im wrong) and has the potential to be good. He should step up.

Aldrech could play the wings so with Japeth. Once Greg and JunMar are in, CJ regains his bearing, Rabeh re-learns the system and Jason improves much more. Further improvement in ballhandling and agility is to be undergone by Japeth and Aldrech. which would mean we could have Ababou, Baracael and Cawaling swing to the 2 when we play big but are capable to play the 3 or 4 if we go small. Versitality is needed as we might face different kinds of teams that has to be solved differently.

I know you can't teach athleticism but I hope they could train Rabeh to jump a bit higher..considering that he's atleast 6'7/6'8 he's like Sonny Thoss maybe bigger than the locals but would be smaller than the international players..he seems overweight and is a little lazy on the defense.Hope Toroman could make him improve a bit.

I was thinking the same thing everytime he would let Rico easily get the baseline.

seeing rabeh and japeth side by side rabeh looks bigger than japeth. weight will not be a factor, it can help the SG to have bulky players because Sg is really thin specially in the front line.

being bulk is not a problem at all but it usually takes away one thing from you which is mobility..at 6'7 you should be jumping and running like Japeth to compete with those international bigger guys. But for now I'm not worried about Rabeh yet.Japeth on the other hand needs to improve his strength..even as a small forward,he should be ready to mix it up inside same goes for Giles.

We have seen how good the pba players can be when they play with their team in the pba
I suggest having another national team under chot Reyes and be parallel to the smart gilas nt
meaning gilas will play on one tourney and the pba nt will play in other tourneys hence the pba can redeem itself and the phils will increase in ranking bec of alot of international play
I would also like to watch the gilas vs pba nt play each other while preparing for tourneys
and in the long run the nt should be composed of the best players for the team be it pba players or not

I actually believed that a reinforced PBA team could have done better than the patchwork Powerade team. Powerade just didn't have team work & did not really display what Filos are capable of doing.... which was unfair. Alaska + all the players Cone could wish for, or continuing coach Chot's program, I believe, could have been the better alternative.

For our Smart Gilas bigs, Norman Black is already helping Rajko.

additional assistance ain't bad

especially that lister is a legitimate postplayer

but not if its too expensive

but if tnt gets him then loaning him to train gilas big men on a part-time basis would really be great

yea but it's too late for that..thank God for the PBA execs for having an open mind not to lend players to the national team.Toroman given enough preparation time,a naturalized player, some Gilas players and some Powerade players and the team could have done wonders.heck we may ended up 5th or 4th last Fiba-Asia

Let this team be together for 5 years, and they'll be better than all the proposed NT lineups.

I agree with the above emphasized portion. That was just a fraction of the firepower of a PBA selection on display. I mean, who would believe that its normal for Helterbrand to go 0-6 in open shots from the field when you see him draining them with a hand in the face in the PBA; or normal for Kerby to shoot blanks all tournament long but drain them the moment he gets back at Purefoods; or normal for Arwind magkalat. It was just good that they could play hard nosed defense because theyre pros. That kept them a bit competitive. The culprit is that we fielded a SELECTION, not a TEAM. Sumobra partida. Given time to become a team, with all guns blazing...... yeah I know, WISHFUL THINKING.

But that is precisely why have SG now and its goin great for its first year. So instead of a PBA alternative, why not as one of the posters suggested, a parallel national team backstopped by the PBA. That way we have two teams and compete everywhere and get those FIBA standing points at the same time. Also, the NTs would be always on their toes at magpapa-angasan yan on who has bragging rights.

But this is not feasible especially to the PBA Board of Governors. They won't let that happen because of the risk of their players being injured. Add to the fact that the league has only 3 months break in between seasons. Players will be burned out for playing in a whole year.

But at the same time, don't expect them to play well in successive games. Especially with FIBA having games almost everyday. There is a significant difference on the pace of a FIBA and PBA game. Add to that the kind of conditioning programs our PBA teams apply to their players.

Yes, things can change if these PBA players will be exposed to some international tournaments every year. But still we can't shortcut everything when it comes to a national team program. Lots of changes must be made by our PBA teams in various aspects in order for them to perform well in these said tournaments.

if Lister really did a great job on Samigue, Bono and the other Bigmen of the Beermen, I do not think San Miguel would release him and would have no problem renewing his contract. Now JayWash is not even in their regular line-up. Am not sure about the cut-back angle.

or maybe we could have just sent the cebuana lhuiller team to tianjin, the one which beat a lot of pba teams last month. add hontiveros and alapag for firepower. as an amateur league, it would have easily adopted to the international rules. who knows? it might have even surpassed the 8th placed finish of poverade.
