Agreed... the moment I read he is playing in a Danny Espiritu Cup (Fil-Am tournament in the US) and a two-time college reject, I ain't impress at all... the Fil-Am tourney maybe based in the US but even the Women's UAAP are more competitive than that:p... don't get me wrong, most of the Filipino social tournaments outside the country, at least half of the players are over 30s and most of them are full-time workers (OFW) not professional players...

can you please back up your allegations? have you actually seen every single Fil-Am Tournament outside the country? FYI, some Fil-Am in the PBA played in this tournaments before getting noticed.. Some EX PRO plays in this tournaments too...

Meanwhile, PBA board chairman Lito Alvarez said there will be no tug-o-war for the services of Japeth Aguilar during the Powerade Pilipinas-Smart Gilas dream exhibition match as he’ll allow the controversial player to play for the RP developmental team.

After that, Alvarez, however, is hopeful SBP executive director Noli Eala will keep his word that they will not touch Aguilar until he has come to terms with Burger King.

“Admittedly, Japeth has no contract with the PBA. This is a noble project, so how can we say no,” said Alvarez.

“But this will be Japeth’s last game with Smart Gilas. After this project, I’ll request to SBP not to allow Japeth play with them anymore, even in scrimmages,” Alvarez added.

“He (Aguilar) must come to terms with us already. We will show how supportive we are to SBP, and I expect them to return the gesture.”

Wow Mr. Alvarez, hindi ka din naman demanding ano?

it should not be televised so that all people who wants to watch will have to pay the entrance fee....its for the victims of the flood....

dude.the upper boxes and the general admission seats are free. The only seats that have to be paid are the Ringside and lower boxes.

What's the point of not televising it? It's super pointless not to.

the point of the event is to encourage the fans to come over and donate for the poor victims of the floods. The ticket proceeds and collected rubber shoes, slippers and other relief goods would be passed on to the relief effort. Basketball here is secondary, it is just a tool so that people are encouraged to join this good cause as the main objective is CHARITY.

I think this will be televised I just don't know if it's going to be televised live...I guess there is an agreement between BTV and ABS-CBN because this is Channel 2's project...I'm not sure but maybe they will air this days or even weeks after the game.So for those who wants to watch this live better buy your ticket now :D

i think you're not one of the people affected by the massive flood....be sensitive enough! you're acting like that coz the game is not being showed live on tv?

Do you have the right sir??? JA hasn't signed up yet. he can do whatever he wants..

Yeah, you'll be supportive if you get him. But if not, you're gonna revisit some of the SBP's by laws?? Classy.

those far away from the metro can only watch it on tv, can't they accept tv ads and donate the proceeds to charity?

i want to donate and watch the game live. but i just can't. so for many of us here, tv is the only way.

I hope they will make a delayed telecast of it (like 1 week after) and donate some of the revenues of advertising to charity.

But I'll watch the game live and would look for some old sneakers.

and also to some of the guys here Pls dont bash the posters who are requesting for a telecast, they are merely from far away and want to see the game as well, Please do not be Over acting and over sensitive to judge them as selfish and heartless people. given the chance, I'm sure They would also give/ donate to the victims.

I have no problem with the demands that the event should be televised, but calling this charitable event as

if it is not televised is something that is uncalled for. As I said the purpose of this event is to raise funds for charity and basketball is only secondary with the games just being used as a tool in order for people to participate in this activity.

Aguilar left to choose where to play in charity game

Powerade-Team Pilipinas won’t get in the way if ever controversial rookie Japeth Aguilar decides to play for RP-Smart Gilas in next week’s charity game at the Araneta Coliseum for the benefit of typhoon Ondoy victims.

Both Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner Sonny Barrios and chairman Lito Alvarez reiterated that it’s Aguilar’s choice on whether to suit up for the PBA-backed Nationals of coach Yeng Guiao or see action for the team of Serbian coach Rajko Toroman.

“It’s up for Japeth where to play," said Barrios when asked about the matter during the launching of the `Pinoy Basketball: Kakampi N’yo’ charity meet Wednesday at the PBA office in Libis, Quezon City.

But for good measure, the league included the 6-foot-10 Aguilar among those members of the Powerade-Team Pilipinas who were issued memorandum regarding the one-day event.

“It’s only proper that we listed him in the Powerade-Team Pilipinas since he’s a member of it," said Alvarez, whose Burger King team selected Aguilar as the year’s top overall Rookie Draft pick, but refused to sign up with the franchise.

“But I think it’s ok if he’ll play for Smart Gilas. After all, this is just a charity game," the PBA chairman added.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Noli Eala said the body will talk to Aguilar and ask him personally where he wants to play.

Aguilar saw action for Powerade-Team Pilipinas during the Jones Cup and the FIBA-Asia qualifying meet for the World Basketball Championship, but has since been practicing with the RP-Smart Gilas squad shortly after he nixed Burger King’s three-year, P8 million offer.

The former Western Kentucky University stalwart reinforced the Gilas team during its exhibition game against the Singapore Slingers last week.

This developed as four other members of the Powerade squad wouldn’t be able to play in Monday’s game owing to previous commitments.

Ranidel De Ocampo and Jarred Dillinger are with the Talk ‘N Text team in Australia by that time, while Mick Pennisi and Arwind Santos are both in Singapore for the San Miguel Beermen-Slingers exhibition match.

But Ryan Reyes (pulled hamstring) and Kelly Williams (blood disorder) will be coming off from sick bay and play for the national squad, along with addition Wynne Arboleda.

American CJ Giles has been sick and is not practicing with Smart Gilas the past few days, but coach Rajko Toroman is confident the former Los Angeles Lakers draftee would be available for Monday’s game. – GMANews.TV
