I do not know if its something personal because of James Yap but is actions towards basketball is not that favorable, he did not move to make the Naturalization Bill of Douthit as a priority despite an appeal by the SBP (thru Noli Eala then) and he omitted basketball as among the sports that the PSC should prioritize in helping out. He snubbed the invitation of MVP to either open, watch or close the FIBA-Asia Club Championship which we hosted.

he is just not into sports.. FYI he also hasn't even watched a single Azkals game despite invitations as well.. simply put he is not into sports..

but for me the disappointing thing is that he has invited the Azkals in malacanang for a courtesy call.. but the 4th placed Gilas in last year's FIBA Asia did not even receive a single invite from malacanang..

it is not about james yap or any other matter.. he is not into sports..

that if we produce a player with the same work ethic and dedication as Caidic does. Our players these days does not devote that much time and effort that Allan din. They just do not get the concept in order toimprove your shooting that there is no short-cut, that there is no instant formula and there is no special technic as the only way to do it is that practice makes perfect.

the only player closest to allan caidic in terms of devoting practice is gary david.. before he was just known as a slashing scorer guard.. now because of his hardwork in practice and dedication in his field, he is one of the deadly 3 point shooters in the PBA..

but other than him, sadly, there is none..

Its not personal, its just riding he's just riding the popularity of the Azkals so that he can gain a more positive image from the public(who was pretty high from Azkals at that time). This is just similar to the politicians who pretend that Pacquiao is their "adopted son" and any other PR stunt that is associated with popular persons or things.

Though he is into the one who plays the said sport. HAHAHAHA >:]

Is there any international friendly games and preparations for our U-18 team. Iran basketball team
currently training in Europe and had a great tournament there. Hope NCAA and UAAP allow their players
to play for our NT.

UNITY can be the source of being a POWERHOUSE in ASIA.

SBP needs the following

1. SMC Corporation
2.UAAP and NCAA
3. PBA
4.Filipino basketball fans

problem is that van opstal is looking like a japeth v2.0...6'9 with hops and a negative basketball IQ who hurts you more than he can help. heck even japeth was a reliable big when he played in the uaap..AVO is just lost...but he is still recuperating from an ACL injury i think so let's see how he plays next year. this year though, i expect dlsu to use jovet mendoza and yutien andrada more. torres though is primed for a breakout year, he is going to challenge karim abdul, greg slaughter, anthony hargrove and emmanuel mbe and if he holds ground or even outperforms them then he should be a shoo-in for the cadets.

Why did he not flourish during his rookie year? He's playing for La Salle (big man production/development in the recent years have been close to zero (Rico Maierhoffer is NOT a big man) until Torres came) and under Dindo Pumaren whose system is very guard oriented much like FEU. And a full court pressing team is not good for a big man.

But like Japeth, his height and (possible) potential must not be ignored. THE PHILIPPINES HAS ONLY A HANDFUL OF GUYS (YOUNG GUYS) STANDING 6'8' AND ABOVE AND THEY SHOULD BE TAKEN NOTICE EXPECIALLY AT A YOUNG AGE. Heck, of the big guys in the UAAP you mentioned, only Slaughter is the Pinoy guy there. (Abdul is just a Tiger at heart. Haha)

would like to remind you that in recent history, DLSU does not lend its players to the National Team in a number of sports not only basketball and more so that its Mens Basketball Program is again sponsored by Former Ambassador Danding Cojuangco who is the mentor of RSA who is a fierce business rival of MVP.

That is why Jeron Teng's decision to play for them worried me about his NT stint. Now, Norbert Torres. And possibly, like my last post, AVO.

Not sure about that for the other sports. La Salle has quite a few athletes in the RP teams of other sports.

wait a minute kapeng mainit!!!!!!!

what is this i am seeing?!?!?!?!?!

still, AVO will always be overshadowed by torres until he gets it together...and with a negative basketball IQ (which you can't teach), i'd rather have someone albeit 2-3 inches shorter but is a much more productive player than a 6'8 eye sore. it's sad that the athletically gifted pinoys aren't the smartest ones but it is what it is...oh and with what you said, since limpot dlsu hasn't produced a legit big (locsin is just 6'3) so i doubt they'll be able to produce 2 in the same batch.

Which has actually got to change. That kind of mind set got EVERYONE here complaining about our NT being too small, and I assume including you. Well actually, it has been changing. our 6'6"-6'7" young guys are actually pretty good (Ramos, Sangalang, Torres, Almazan, etc.). We didn't have lots of those years before. And 'has always been shadowed'? They've only played together last year. And AVO wasn't really that tall back in HS (he was a 6'6" lanky forward built not as a C. Then the growth spurt.). So maybe the transition of position didn't help him coming into college. (Which is why I totally agree with a previous article somewhere in this forum that younger guys should at least know 2 positions to play. Look at Kiefer only now learning to play PG.) Good thing their system as changed as they can play how they should play, much like how Torres is bringing it.

For La Salle, maybe the last big man to be somewhat successful in the pros in Don Allado. If you consider this guy 'big', then Willy Wilson too.

Arnold is a stud... but I believe he will have a good career nt career also and better than the half of the guys you have mentioned:cool:

Maierhofer is legit, but being in Ginebra does not help him. Remember RT wanted him for Gilas 1, but he refused.
There could be no Teng or Norbert or Thomas in the Cadets unless BOSS has a change of heart. BTW few Lasallians are banking on AVO. He's too much of a nut if you believe PEX and other Lasallian forums..(he has had academic and other issues ever since he was in HS, at di ba may thread siya sa rito???? mas umaasa pa kami kina Papot, Yutien, and Norbert. (all undersized centres who would otherwise be playing 4.) Gee Abanilla should put two of them in at a time so they can learn PF skills, otherwise other guys like Almazan, Sangalang, etc. will trump them in terms of versatility.
It's nice to see Torres shooting jumpers, he has to make them consistently though. Joe Ward et.al. should teach him some shooting.

Though Maeirhoffer is a 3 IMO.

Papot is like a Jay-r Reyes. Yutien can be a poor man's Aldrech Ramos. But both are not in the caliber of Norbert. Torres has that unlimited potential. And all should be playing 4 in the next level.

Sangalang is a 5 in SSC-R because there is no one else to put in his position with his height and skill. He can be a 4 due to his style of play. Almazan has still a lot of work to do.

I remember before that Torres was jacking a lot of 3s.

Mukha nga.
What makes Torres special is he can play well with either his back to the basket or face up. best case scenario, he can be a kelly williams. Can't say that for Sangalang, Almazan, or even Andrada/.

Better case scenario, (lol) a BETTER Kelly Williams. Though I think he will never have Kelly's athleticism.

As I've said, Andrada can be a poor man's Ramos. Almazan is more on the mold of Jason Ballesteros.

Sangalang is a unique case. Has that good potential. Every year he brings something new. He's like the Chris Bosh of SSC-R's big 3. Haha!

well, it's like choosing between ranidel (torres) or japeth (avo) right now...and hands down, no question even if ranidel is 3-4 inches shorter i'd still pick him. it's not really the mindset but the player that gives you the best chance to win...someone just tall is actually a liability than someone who is undersized but understands the game and has the skills to boot. and also much like japeth, i'm not giving much hope for AVO to improve as much as he hopefully should.

quite contradictory to what the dlsu commmunity used to say last year when he was bricking jumpshots left and right...hehe oh and i think it's only you who calls maierhofer a "legit" big. he's more of a 3...
