The game which will decide the destiny of group. The both two teams have to win this game. There is no other possibility. There will be a fight on the court.

Good defense vs. good offense at it's finest. The key would imo be the center matchup with Bargnani, as Italians will surely love to draw Erden and Aldemir out on the 3point line with him, open up the paint and at the same time neutralise that defensive anchor Turkey loves to utilise with their height. That's a tough nut to crack for just about any team and at the same time I don't expect any type of zone solutions against Italians considering their bballl flow and the fact they're traditionaly great shooters.
Turkey's edge would be forcing the game in the paint and dominating the rebounding aspect where Italy has been somewhat mediocre in the preparation games (at least the ones I saw) and with their fans expected to come to the arena.
If this tournament would be a classical development for Turkey, they'd likely lose the first and second game, win the game that would put them in the quarterfinals when everybody would already written them off and than win again in the quarterfinals.

it will be close game IMO!

Dixon will be a serious problem for our defense!

I'm always for the team that has better defense. Even though Italy seemed a bit better in the prep period and what JPF said is true (about Turkey winning the later games) I vote Turkey this time.

Italy is the worst team for Turkey for beginning. Also our squad is worse than past years. Italy dominated.

Italy usually plays and shoots well against Turkey... so i expect a confortable win for us (around 10 pts margin).

I think that starting the tournament with this kind of game is advantageous for two sides. Italy and Turkey will start with full concentration. It is simple for Turkish side. If we will lose this game, the tournament will be over for us since I think the fact this team's mentality is so weak. Due to this fragile mentality, we have been lost in recent tournaments. If we will win, we can expect a lot of unexpected results from the other games. We will push for an upset in Spain and Serbia games. With this two edged sword game, we will decide everything from the first day. Italy is the favorite side, even their watermen shoot threes so we should defend them tightly. I heard that Balbay will be out of roster which means the Italian guard has just announced his freedom on the floor. I don’t care what we will do on offense, the only thing matters is our defensive pressure which should be applied wisely without foul problems. Key match up will be Bargnani-Erden. Savaş shouldn’t take more minutes for defensive concern that he will create. We sit tight on Erden’s post games during the game. If we will start to shoot the ball insanely, they will be happy for this action. Post, post and post games. No other way around. We should use painted area as much as we can. I am not sure how we will take care all those talents of Italy. We can stop frontcourt but backcourt is kinda questionable. Without Balbay, the full court press won’t be that effective. Italy is close to victorious.

Congrulations to Italy Doğus Balbay is out because of injury. Turkey lost its defensive momentum with doğus balbay being out. We will literally be out with our C team with Enes kanter, Ömer Aşık, Doğuş Blbay and other few players being out. I really lost my excitment when ı learned doğus balbay injured himself in the practice and is out for 3 weeks.

Italy might historically be the worst opponent for us. I don't remember winning any game even in our good days, and not even in friendlies.

I think we will win. Because Italy will try to score like crazy and they will hit our defensive wall and they'll get frustrated. Bargniani will force impossible 3s or injure himself trying a monster dunk over Semih Erden only to hit the ground on his half way to the basket :) I only expect Gentile and Datome to have a proper game against us and only 2 players will not be enough.
Or we can lose.

Edit: oh, also btw we're playing at home :)

fun matchup indeed...
I expect defense to prevail in the first match of the group, so my pick goes to turks here

i guess even your best defense won't save you from defeat, still i don't know turkish team but i want remenber that we have a starting five size nba(cinciarini, belinelli, datome , gallinari, bargnani) , gallinari gets fit now and he will be difficult to be stopped, anyway tough match and close game.

i hate this kind of post!

then i hope that your starting 5 is wrong!

Bargnani will start off the bench... maybe also Datome... they're both coming from (not serious) injuries...

I expect a close game but in the end the more talent of Italy NT should prevail.

Go Turkey

Ersan İlyasova with a very good start

as always, we're doing better when we're the underdogs..

40-24 for Turkey

Italy's all defender players Cusin, Cinciarini and Hackett are in early foul trouble.
