Referee Scandal ??

i don't know what Ellianiadis did ,i know that the refs didn't help Greece but helped Turkey against France...

yeah our managers asked a Elliniadis for arranging refs since he is doing great about that. we should definetely be punished very badly

Ex-player of Olympiakos, he was also general manager at olympiakos for a few years, then in 2009 he was a part of the NT staff in the '09 eurobasket and since then he's general manager in Maroussi.

Now, as for the punishment that surprises people, 2 things must be said:
- FIBA did NOT punish anything that had to do with the content of the conversation. Fiba judged as unsportmanline behavior the contact itself.
- Regarding what was said, noone can be 100% sure apart from the refs themselves.

good points and you are definetely right that noone can be sure apart from the refs. but the refs were kicked out of the contest while Elliniadis had a fine for €15,000. does that make sense?
if it was just an unsportsmanlike conversation why the hell the refs were kicked out then ha???? they should have been innocent in this regard. am i right????:D

refs were 80 -20 against us and he get cought and he embarassed the Greek NT!!!
hahahahahaha
If your managers asked Elliniadis to fix the refs then i can understand your situation with Poland!!
lol

It was the Montenegrin referee (the one you still curse for the Poland game) who was kicked out of the competition because he contacted by phone (SMS) the refs of the Greece-Montenegro match.

Again, this is reasonable, because although he violated the same rule, he participates actively in the tournament, unlike Eliniadis. I mean...obviously they couldn't eject Eliniadis...

Zoran Šutulović was also kicked out who was one of the refs in Poland game dude.

i dont know the third guy.
three refs were kicked out.

the rumour is about just one referee. Sulutovic.

But, nothing has been officially announced. And in addition Allan Richardson has stated in a typical British manner that this is Bull***t. Denied the rumours and stated that in total 10 refs who participated in the previous phase, do not continue in the 2nd stage of the Eurobasket as the games are fewer. I'm trying to find a proper source of these statements of Richardson (other than a Greek sports site) but nothing so far...

Greeks always complain about referees but they dont remember 1995 and 1998 always winning robbed , even their first eurobasket was robbed in 1987 against Russia

and tks greek people you have big ruine in your country and my country have help you with my tax.

Whatever dude..... if you don't know the facts don't make these kind of comments.

As for the second part of your email... your welcome! :)

Moderators

Don't you think that the title of this thread should be changed from "Referee scandal confirmed. Greece is fined EUR15K" to "Stavros Elliniadis is fined EUR15K"?? Elliniadis is not a member of the Greek team and traveled to Lithuania on his own accord, therefore, Greece was not actually fined with anything....

I have the feeling some people are throwing oil into the fire here. FIBA is doing a good job in making sure that procedures are being followed.

Frankly, I think that after what happened last year in the semi-final between Serbia and Turkey hurt FIBA's image and they are trying to be more strict now. At least, they are trying to show a different image.

lol a turk posted something for cheating....
the world championship memories are still fresh.
the win against Serbia is gonna be one of the most shameful in the history of basketball and that is not gonna change by any means.

The moderators should change the title of this provocative thread.Greeks have nothing to do with the movement of one idiot.

Elliniadis has absolutely NOTHING to do with the GREEK BASKETBALL FEDERATION.

This is nothing but a playfield to let out bitter comments by our "friends". And also a comment regarding taxes that some guy paid in order to help my country???

Are you fckn serious and for real? Go get in touch with reality, read a bit, educate yourself and you might realise you only make a fool of yourself.

Mods : how about fixing the topic's title? or is it ok to mislead and throw trash using false titles? I might be interested to open a thread or two if it is ok then...

Belated many thanks from me too man! Rest assured that there could hardly be a better way for your country to spend your tax dollars. Please work harder to earn more money for your next year's taxes. We are counting on you!
