Yes this is the original. And exactly as you say, it sounds like many pop songs. But perhaps it is more than just a pop song. A good song is a song you react to or sticks in your mind... This song has that "x" factor to it that sticks in your mind... Before being removed by the record, that original site had had 170 million visitors!
