Preparation Games for Eurobasket 2011

  • Thread starter Thread starter DEEP ISTANBUL2

Bad idea to put Kaimakoglou at small forward, he has given up too many points on defense to Gallo

It is clear from this game that Gallo is the key to Italian success and best player of their team

This Hackett kid is good. They are playing better without Marco B while Hackett and Datome are there.

If Bramos is not selected I will not know what to say about Zouros

All along I have been saying he is needed for this team and he has shown his worth in all the friendlies so far

Zouros should also not take Vouyoukas...he just looks lethargic and too soft. Shame because even though the Italians really hit a lot of three pointers, those technical fouls at the end killed the little comeback we were putting together. We really did not play well today and on defense I don't know why after 28 points from Bargniani we still could figure out that its a high pick and roll and the man just stands on the three point line (never rolls to the hoop)!!!!

That refereeing in Rimini is almost as bad as in Acropolis.

And kudos to Bargnani, didn't know he's such a good diver.

Also, I really can't watch Zisis leading the offence.

Refereeing was horrible indeed. :D I stopped counting the technical fouls.
Anyway, Italy wanted this win badly. Bargnani shot the lights out of Greece today.

As for Greece. It's clear that they have a problem in the guard position. We miss DD, Papaloukas and Spanoulis badly. Right now, the return of Calathes will be a breath of fresh air for Greece. Sloukas has shown some positive signs, but it's hard for him to organise the game against tough defense. Bramos looks good. He is a good shooter and he will be better when he adapts. Xanthopoulos and Mantzaris should be out of the team. They are not solid enough. Charalambidis looked good, but didn't play a lot of minutes so I expect him to be out of the team as well.

It should be Calathes, Zisis, Vasileiadis, Bramos, Sloukas in the guard position. After that, we have to keep our fingers crossed.

I expect Zouros to make the first two cuts this week.

Who will replace Zhukanenko and Kaun? Shabalkin and Antonov?

Shabalkin 100% will be into the squad. As for Antonov, most probably he,ll replace Vyaltsev. Unfortunately, Vyaltsev still looks quite poor in friendly games.

Who cares about the result today. It was a good scrimmage and a loss is always good for the team.

I don't like Vouyoukas either, but who is supposed to play in his stead. Sofo and Mavrokefalidis are not part of the team. I don't think the latter will ever be invited anymore.

what do you think about cinciarini like point guard and our NT in general?;)

our coach prefer his man carraretto so datome IMO should play more on offense because a shot to create on its own and has a great shot from 3 is important in defense and rebounding above all...i think datome his the ideal reserve of gallo...;)

He shoot all threes from exactly the same position. No inch to the left no inch to the right. It was only after point number 25 when Koufos decided to start defending.

It was the lack of defense which costs us the victory today and not the 3 or 4 technical fouls we got for farting on court.

In Greece, it is just usual home cooking for home national team. In Italy, it's always blatant robbery. In fact, players are so used to it, that they're surprised if their NT gets fair refereeing in Italy, or at least decent one.

Every country has its customs. In Spain, refs first wait if Spanish team will get into deficit ... if so, then they get in action. Here on Balkan, referees actually whistle fairly during summer. They're tired of being hinted who must win during entire club season ... now it's time for their vacation from match fixing :D

Netherlands - Israel 80-70
http://www.basketball.nl/content.php/nl/110/nieuws.html?id=2895,nl
Scorers Oranje: Arvin Slagter 20, Robin Smeulders 19, Dan Gadzuric 8, Dimeo van der Horst 8, Jessey Voorn 7, Aron Royé 7, Kenneth van Kempen 5,
Rogier Jansen 3, Francisco Elson 2, Osaikhwuwuomwam 1.

Israel lost to Netherlands too. How low can they fall? For Netherlands played two NBA players, but Francisco Elson and Dan Gadzuric are hardly household names, I would call them "fringe NBA players" .

In other game:
Georgia (European country) - Villanova (NCAA team) 87-54

It seems American team rotated players much more today, probably they're not used to playing 3 games in 3 days.

:D funny as hell, but damn close to reality :D

on the Italian NT, maybe it would be better to use Belinelli off the bench to cover 3 different positions, if playing small ball, or as instant offence when needed. I just think Italia would do better with Mago and Gallo starting, and Belli off the bench

thats the thing when your local teams have a roster full of foreigners and dont help your native players..

Agree but i doubt Marco would start off the bench given his ego... among the 3 NBAers, he's the worst in that... by far.

I was expecting something more from Pianigiani as a coach on Belinelli... it seems he's hard only with the less-talented guys.
