Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

If Jordan Clarkson plays for Gilas in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, I bet PBA will offer its players for Gilas service & I agree with you, around 4 to 5 PBA players (excluding the special draftees) will make it to the Gilas 12-man roster.

As I've said several times, PBA still wants to have a place in the Gilas bandwagon, specially with Clarkson in tow. PBA still wants relevance with the FIBA game.

wright and lassiter should always be considered because of their 3 point shooting (much higher than romeo and pogoy's)

I hope they get their place in the Gilas bandwagon while giving at least the bare minimum when it comes to prep time. If they're just gonna force Gilas to take PBA players and minimal training time, nako po. Might as well not join.

The 4 or 5 PBA players that will likely make it to the 2023 FIBA WC-bound Gilas would be the likes of Kiefer, Matt Wright, Pogoy, CJ Perez, Junmar Fajardo, Rosario.

If only Rayray Parks isn't besieged by a problem, I would consider him in the list over either Pogoy or Perez.

A wing combination of Jordan Clarkson, Dwight Ramos, Rayray Parks, Matt Wright, & either CJ Perez or Pogoy would be awesome.

PR nightmare if PBA is not represented. If the PBA will have its way, its gonna be 10 PBA players + J.C. and then Kai, plus a coach of their liking .

A special compromise will surely be made if the PBA bullies once again SBP, like majority of the cadets will be drafted, but owners will have no choice but to lend these draftees to the NT. So total picture will be 7 established PBA Stars (they want to have the majority number) + 3 Gilas Cadets ( but rights owned by PBA) + J.C. and Kai . Ange Koame in all likelihood will be left out if FIBA classifies him as a naturalized palyer. AJ Edu will be the odd man out, he'll be in limbo since he's neither a PBA player, a pro or a GILAS regular.

Gilas Pool Fight for Final 12 slot

Cadet Vs Pba

PG: Heading, 1GDL Vs Kiefer

SG: Dave, Javi, Bulanadi Vs Matthew Wright, RR Pogoy

SF: Dwight Ramos Vs Rayray

PF: Carl Tamayo Vs Troy

C: Kai, AJ, Ange Vs Junmar, Japeth

I guess it will look like this in 2023.

TALENT WISE, ex'cept the Big Man Center Position, Pba Players have an edge talent wise.

BUT if these pba players and the pba team they are being controlled REALLY WANTS TO HELP. I hope that

These pba players will be integrated in the program 1 YEAR FULL TIME.

As I've said, PBA doesn't want to be left out of the Gilas bandwagon.

Lumalaki ang mga tenga ng top PBA officials & team owners every time they hear words like "CJ Perez, he plays for the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA which is Asia's 1st professional basketball league" from TV panelist covering Gilas games in a FIBA tournament.

Regardless, SBP wants to keep a harmonious relation with PBA as much as possible. Of course not saying SBP really has good relation with PBA.

SBP and PBA relationship is like an elite businessmen relationship.

You know like Sy, Gokomgwei, Razon, Ayala, Lucio Tan relationship with each other.

What do we call that? Something like "Frenemies". Hehe

Coach tab baldwin’s pick for his mythical 5 (for all filipino players he coached or seen):

Prime Paul Lee (over jimmy alapag, castro, kiefer, etc)
Prime Marcio Lassiter (elite shooter, solid defender)
Gabe Norwood/Jordan Clarkson
Japeth Aguilar
Junmar Fajardo

Surprised with the paul lee pick (he also picked him to take the last second shot over alapag/castro/romeo), but makes sense with paul lee’s skills and size as a defender. Proof that tab really takes defense as a big consideration when picking players.

Honestly confused with the Paul Lee pick. Wasn’t his defense considered the worst amongst the 2019 WC team? It’s the primary reason he couldn’t keep up with world level guards.

Tab did qualify the paul lee pick by saying “when paul was in shape and playing well”.

Wow, Japeth, even considering that Tab benched Japeth for Troy (a decision I really disagreed with at the time).

But still, makes sense. As you said, defense is a huge consideration. Japeth's a good weakside defender and rim protector.

^tab qualified his bigs saying that we dont really have a lot of choices. Jap and jmf’s size would be enough with JC there.

Played well? Sure

In shape? He was hardly in good shape the past five years.

The games against Iran and China were the indicators of that. He could barely defend a 5'11 Mashayeki.

^ implying paul lee’s career began in 2016. Pffft GTFOH

not implying anything but merely stating what I’ve seen having followed this team since 2007.

Paul Lee is a good offensive player but wasn’t the best defensively.

GTFOH? Nah. I’m staying since you seem triggered anyways.

Interxavier gave a subjective but valid opinion about Paul lee..

And apparently lurklurk doesn’t like it so he’s resorting to being an asshole.

There are many reasons we suffered in 2019 WC. One of them was the absence of Jayson Castro, who I argue should be in Tab’s mythical 5.
