Game Recap :)

Game Recap :)

Guys! I just came back from the game! It was freaking unbelievable! I haven't been that excited in a long long while! Gilas showed its true game a while ago!

Here are my observations from the game.

1. The referees were not partisan to Gilas at all. In fact one referee kept on making botched calls against Gilas. If ever it was us who were on the receiving end of very bad calls that allowed the Jordanians to claw back in the game in the 4th. He called Douthit with several fouls in the 4th and fouled him out on an outrageous offensive foul call that was utter bullsh*t. He also missed one call when Mac got pushed by a Jordanian player which led to a score by the Jordanians.

2. Our worst line up in the game was the one that had Chris Tiu, Mark Barroca, Marcio Lassiter, Japeth Aguilar, and Marcus Douthit playing together. Our best line up was this: Casio/Tiu (PG), Lutz, Lassiter, Mac Baracael, and Marcus Douthit. That line up absolutely killed the Jordanians. Not only did we run them to the ground, but it was a defensive joy to watch. They were pressuring all over the place. Let it be known that Lutz, Lassiter, and Baracael are tremendous defenders. Lutz and Lassiter had a lot of steals. Lassiter is an unbelievable defender. He basically shackled Rasheim Wright the entire night!

3. The Gilas offensive game was beautiful to watch. They moved the ball well and were open on a lot of their shots and that's why they made them. It was not a fluke. Gilas can shoot the heck out of the basketball. They set good screens and move the ball well. There were some instances where they stalled, but that was often because of miscommunication because Douthit seemed lost during offense.

4. Casio is way way better then Mark Barroca. I can't say enough about how good Casio was. He moved the ball well, set the plays quickly, made great decisions and shot the ball well. He was so clutch in the 4th quarter with those dagger drives, 3s and an amazing tear drop at the end game against the Jordanian team that made the arena explode. He made all the big free throws in the game.

5. Chris Tiu was an eye sore the entire game because he was mismatched at the 2 spot. There were a lot of us who moaned when he was brought back in the game, but boy did he prove us wrong! He manned the point in the 4th and made 2 crucial assists that extended the lead and changed the momentum! Way to go Chris!

6. Japeth played ok but was not intense enough in my opinion. But overall good game for him. He helped energize Gilas with a put back dunk in the 2nd quarter that brought the roof down and made a shot clock beating jumper to help extend the Gilas lead.

7. Mac Baracael was a stud in this game. He attacked the basket relentlessly and hit shot after shot after shot. This was the Mac Baracael of Dubai. In my opinion, we have to play this guy at the 3. Even if he is just 6'4/6'5 we really don't lose much with him. He's intense, fiery, driven, courageous, and is in attack mode for the entire game. He had this one cross over move that left the Jordanian player in the dust and he finished the lay up. He also had an unbelievable offensive rebound that led to 2 foul shots that helped Gilas halt the momentum of Jordan's comeback.

8. Marcus Douthit was a God send. Though obviously injured and hampered, he manned the middle well, grabbed rebounds, and intimidated the Jordanians. He has a good mid range game and posted up well. If not for that damn referee, he would not have fouled out. While watching him, you could see that he really had a high basketball IQ.

9. Greg played well despite the limited minutes. When he was in the game, he rebounded well and made shots off their high low play. He has a nice touch around the rim and is a good rebounder. During the 4th quarter when Douthit fouled out, there Greg was rebounding the basketball, scoring off a Chris Tiu pass, blocking Wright's drive to the basket. He's really improved a lot!

10. Zaid Abbas and Sam Daghles are monsters. And so is that other Abbas. Zaid Abbas actually got booed a lot because he whines so much. At the end of the game he even slammed the ball to the ground in a fit of rage because of the loss. Btw, both he and Daghles had 2 amazing dunks which you guys have to see during the replay. Ferocious!

Overall, great game by Gilas! They pressured well during defense, was physical, helped each other well. Rebounding was an issue but at least Douthit kind od negated that advantage of Jordan. He's so long and tall that he grabbed rebounds easily. Offense was fluid for the 2nd straight game. Gilas ran when they had an opportunity and capitalized on Jordanian turn overs. They moved the ball well and therefore, shot the ball well.

Last thoughts: After watching the game, I'm convinced we could have gone to the semis if Lassiter and Casio played during the Champions Cup. I'm not kidding. Those 2 guys are so good at offense and defense. They're such great scorers and shooters that they changed the complexion of the game when they were in.

Again great game! Hope to see Gilas perform even better during Jones Cup! Can't WAIT! GO PHILIPPINES! :D

FYI, K-will according to another thead might be injured... and not sick (injured is what the commentators said.. some people just relate the so called injury to his sickness)... please stop the name bashing.. GIVE THIS THREAD A BREAK MAN.. GILAS WON.. ATLEAST LET THE PEOPLE HERE SAVOR AND CELEBRATE THIS MOMENT.. After this you can say all the negative things you want and i'm sure other people here will talk to you and your thick skull and you will get the arguement that you want... Just not at this moment.. This is a matter of you spoiling this nice moment in our team's run... now i ask you what's your problem sir? Peace lang and chill man...

my problem is theres no gilas die hard fans club thread in this forum where you all blind fan boys can rain praises on gilas without having anyone contradicting you guys and celebrate this phony victory meaning worthless meaning not fiba sanctioned, this is Philippine Invitational Challenge Cup (June 24-27, 2010) thread so i just give my own opinion on the games which i saw, sorry if i cant force myself to agree with all the blind praises that you guys has been raining on gilas but i cant see any crime on that since i dont insult or say bad things on anybody opinion like what you guys are doing.

dont get me wrong im a gilas fans and always will be i just lose my confidence on toroman because of gilas very weak d and i can't see any improvement after 2 yrs. im just not blind like you guys daydreaming of this gilas team being a power again on asia im just being realistic of gilas chances on asian games and fiba asia and for me there best chance is 5TH or 6TH place unless they get a defensive coach before the end of this year.

regarding kwill hes sick not injured, my neighbor is a tnt staff and according to him kwill has a shortness of breath during practice and games reason his performance dip during the ongoing pba conference, the doctors advice him to stop playing for the meantime untill all the results from the test is already examined, but the doctors have a guess its a recurrence of his blood disorder last year.

i dont know if its only me but im wondering why this blood disorder only happens whenever kwill will play for the country hmmmm? sure he play for rp last 2007 but someone has to convince him first, kwill blood is 1/2 pinoy and 1/2 american im sure its the 1/2 american blood whose having a disorder now that kwill is about to done the Philippine uniform :D

regarding junmar fajardo i guess the only way gilas can recruit him is to include don ramon as either an assistant coach or a trainer, don ramon contract with uc will expire on November i guess mvp or toroman can hire this guy away from uc provided junmar is included on the package deal, i think junmar is worth it hes now 6'10 1/4 according to the latest record on uc athletics department with 7'3 1/2 wingspan, this guys is as athletic or more athletic than J. ball with good post move and loves banging bodies ( not in a gay way ;))unlike japeth under the board and this guy can rebound as good as anybody in asia, hes a taller version of zaid abbas of jordan with out the silky smooth perimeter jump shot. for me junmar is the second best propect for gilas on power forward position next to kwill.

on the 1st game:
Donguan lacked muscles, literally, the #21 kept on mopping the floor until he finally got injured. and the highlight of the game was Cardona giving a cowardly punch on the import, nothing notable on that game. the refs helped TNT manage the lead by the way (on my POV)

on the 2nd game:
Mario Palma was his usual self, just like the other foreign NT's who experienced Filipino Cuisine on the court. #6 Zaid Abbas was a revelation, I never thought he was that GOOD, mamaw. Chris Lutz and Marcio Lassiter is a good combo, di sila takot compared to other players we have in the line-up.
The referees calls from the start were questionable (as far as fair play is concerened), but they gave Gilas some bad calls too especially everytime Zaid Abbas attacks, somebody's got to be charged with a foul on the Gilas side, during the 4th quarter it was Douthit who had some problems with the refs calls. Blessing in disguise, because of those fouls, Slaughter was inserted in exchange of Douthit...and the run happened...it started with Slaughter's block over Wright and a lot of Kamikaze finishes from Casio. :) to Zaid Abbas' dislike, he binalibag nya bola with the dying seconds of the ball game. :)

i understand your statement, I'm elated right now for the win but not contento with this one. As Noilsen said, GIVE THEM A BREAK!!!

It seems I saw Taha at the Game watching. I think he sat near me, anyway Im not sure if he is really the one. Mayne, he is a big guy. He talked with coach Mario Palma. Is he a fil-Jor?

I guess he wants to play for the other side..oh well..where are the power forwards when we need them the most.I hope the SBP has back up plans in case Kelly can't play

Jorgii, by the way, i would like to reintroduce myself. Im a moderator on the Pinoy Forum and with that, I would like to send you a warning on 'flamebaiting'. Stop calling names please. If you would like to argue with someone here, don't do it in a sweeping manner which hits almost everybody else.

For all the other guys also, just keep your cool and let us all stay on topic please.

Thanks!

Calling me a blind fanboy? And you saying we're insulting them? Look who's talking man! Geez... The statements that you have just said we're all against you so i don't have to say much anymore! Real "FANS" believe in the team win or lose and yes we may say criticisms against them but all of them are constructive and still filled with hope.. you cannot be a fan if you dont even believe that they can WIN... And if in case this team proves you wrong, chances are you will jump in the bandwagon..

Gilas rips FIBA world c'ship-bound Jordan
06/27/2010 | 09:41 PM

Share The Smart Gilas Philippine developmental team leaned on a big push in the final two minutes to defeat Jordan, 91-80, and win the 2010 Smart Philippine Invitational Challenge at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Leading for most of the way, the Filipinos had to stave several comebacks by the FIBA World Championship-bound Jordanian side behind the combined efforts of JV Casio, Greg Slaughter, Mac Baracael and team captain Chris Tiu to rule the four-day tournament.

Baracael was on fire for Gilas with 22 points, behind a 4-of-8 shooting from downtown, while Casio added 15 points including a tough teardrop shot over Sam Daghles with 40.7 seconds left for an 86-77 lead.

The Filipino cagers, egged on by a partisan crowd, avenged their 83-75 loss to Jordan two days ago that saw them play poorly in the second half and even trailed by 21 points at one point.

Marcus Douthit, the 6-foot-10 candidate for naturalization, had 10 points and 11 rebounds but fouled out with 2:50 left.

Douthit’s replacement, Slaughter, came through with a big block on Rasheim Wright that led to a Casio transition basket for an 82-77 lead.

Zaid Abbas scored 25 points, Daghles added 19 while Islam Abbas made 18 in a losing cause.

Earlier, Talk 'N Text blasted Dongguan, 85-73, in a game that saw Mac Cardona punching Ronald Allen in the face with four minutes left in the game.

That scenario nearly led to a brawl as Allen charged back to retaliate despite his teammates trying to cool him off. – JVP, GMANews.TV

talking about Filipino hospitality...good work MC! you make the Filipinos proud! :D

FYI i still believe this current gilas team can win but not against the top 4 or 5 national teams of asia in a fiba sanctioned tournament.
i still believe this team can win all the way if and only if toroman will be relagated to an assistant coach or a consultant to be replace by a defensive minded head coach
FYI i dont need to jump into the bandwagon if gilas wins cause im always on that wagon trying to push blind fan boys off:p
